Took my car to the dealer to take care of some maintenance and they loaned me a 2022 540i. This morning as I was heading to work, my key fob would not unlock the car. Ran back home and changed the key fob battery and the problem persists. I pressed the alarm button and the lights and sounds are very dim and quiet. Does anyone know how I can access the vehicle with just the manual key? Also the service department is closed.

The Navy's core values are honor, courage, and commitment. As a Navy officer, you are held to the highest standards of those values. Achieving those values at the highest level takes perseverance and the ability to grow and learn from failure.
Throughout my childhood and early adulthood, I have been surrounded by failure, complicity, and a lack of drive. I was raised by a single mother of 4 who never finished high school in a rural community that looked down on education and embraced a perpetual cycle of poverty and the status quo. Success in school was not encouraged in my family. Still, at a young age, I developed a burning desire to be more and become a Navy officer.
After graduating high school, I was excited to be accepted to Louisiana Christian University. However, my pursuit ended after a year with student loans piling up, unhealthy study habits, and little guidance on succeeding. At that point in life, I was not ready to lead others but to grow. Determined not to be a failure, I decided to enlist in the Navy, where I was provided with structure, discipline, and the tools to grow. During my five years of service, I dedicated everything to earn the right to be qualified in Submarines and earn the "Submarine Warfare Specialist Breast Insignia. While balancing college classes, I was able to qualify senior in rank. I took several college courses in my spare time to take steps toward my dream of achieving a college degree and becoming a Navy Officer. After completing my contract in the Navy, I was ready to continue my pursuit of education. I completed my associates' in electronics and graduated with Honors (GPA of 3.79). With a child on the way, I started working to provide for my family.
However, my break from education was short-lived. I returned to school to pursue my bachelor's degree and complete a journey I started in 2010. A degree in Information Technology would complement my electronics degree and allow me to pursue my career as a Navy Officer as an Information Professional. Before starting the IT program, I aimed to earn my CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications before the fall quarter. After several months and countless nights of studying, on August 5, 2023, I earned my Network+ cert, and on Sept 3,2023 my Security+. I also joined a Registered Student Organization for Cyber Security called Grey Hat Group and became the President shortly after. As the President, I gained leadership, communication, and time management skills. I have led countless training sessions around computer networking and basic security hygiene. I collaborated with people from all walks of life and understood how diversity can provide perspectives and solutions. I have researched, sought out, applied for, and received funding for my RSO to take a conference trip to DEFCON, one of the biggest security conferences in the U.S. Yet, my time management skills have allowed me to maintain a 3.88 GPA.
Overall, I believe myself an excellent officer candidate. I have failed, but most importantly, I have overcome it. I have preserved and grown into a leader that understands what it means to be accountable.

My husband and I got pregnant last year after two miscarriages, only to have our son be stillborn at the beginning of autumn. Before losing him I worked in the birth community as a postpartum doula. I had just gotten certified, was saving up for other certifications to really get my services out there to people who need them. After losing Sam (our son) I just haven’t been able to go back to doing that. I feel like I’ll be ready soon but I don’t know. Feels like some people around me are just waiting for me to “get over it” (some actual words that have been said to me).
Before we lost our son, my husband injured himself at work. Herniated disc and possible permanent nerve damage. Dealing with workman’s comp insurance is like pulling teeth. He’s only had two appointments from August to now. They only just approved him for a new MRI and physical therapy. Surgery is probably the route we’ll have to take but he might have to walk with a cane for the rest of his life because this has gone untreated for so long. He’s always in pain and I feel helpless.
So I got a job working from home recently so I could be home with him (he’s fallen a few times). But after training they reduced my hours significantly. Between his pay being less than half of what he was making originally and me not making much, we got to a point where we got behind on our car bill. The bank always said “as long as you have a payment on schedule, the account won’t be reviewed for possession”. No problem. Had a payment on the schedule. Our only car.
Now here’s where I’m really really angry: I’ve had that car for five years. At the time I co-signed with my mother. My egg donor. She offered to help me get a car and I accepted. I SHOULD NOT HAVE. I wrote a post venting about her in a different sub it’s in my post history but to keep it simple on here, she’s so petty and narcissistic. I’ve made every payment on the car, every single one. Mother’s Day the other week was a really tough day for me, and I’ve been estranged from my own mother because I decided to stand up for myself and not take her abuse anymore.
My mistake. She got pissed at me for not calling her on Mother’s Day. She has access to the account with the car because she’s on it too. She called them and canceled my scheduled payment - it went into review and I had no idea. Now it’s been repossessed. That was last week. Now I’ve gotta scramble for almost $1700 to get it back. I hate myself for taking so much time off work after losing Sam because otherwise, I’d have a better job. I’d still have savings. I’d still have our car.
Finding a different WFH job has been unsuccessful. I need a car to get to work if I get hired elsewhere. I’m angry at myself for falling behind. Angry at her for always exploiting and sabotaging and just being hurtful. I’ve cut off contact with anyone who talks to her because I just can’t risk it.
If I get the car back, how do I get her off the account so she can’t have access to that information anymore?
I’m here to vent of course but please if you can just give me some words of encouragement that’d be so helpful. I’m doing everything I can. Hello,
My GF recently admitted to me of having phone sex with strangers online four times over the last month. I didn’t get too into the details as I’m currently out of town for work and was heart broken to hear the news. She said she felt guilty about it, which is why a confession was made. I do believe having phone sex with a stranger counts as cheating.
I will be returning shortly to our home and don’t know how to continue. We recently adopted 2 kittens and split the rent in our apartment. We have not spoken since the initial phone call.
We have not had much sex in the last few months, which has probably led her to do this. We have been dating for 3.5 years and I have enjoyed and loved this relationship.
There have been struggles throughout our relationship, but I believe we have both grown more mature and capable of communicating to one another.
I am feeling very empty and lots of my emotions turn to anger thinking about it as she has told me her stance on cheating. She would immediately end the relationship if I were to ever to do, no questions asked.
A somewhat recent example of her stance on this comes to mind about our past where an ex-girlfriend messages me on instagram saying she was in town. She asked me to meet with her and her friends, but I declined stating I was busy with my current GF. We continued a small text conversation talking about our current lives. I later let my current GF know about this and she lost it. Threatened to kick me out on the spot. She didn’t and we ended up staying together. I was confused and apologetic, but she still holds it against me.
I know there are many layers to a relationship and my post only gives a small glimpse of ours. I am willing to answer questions if there are any. If anyone reads this, what do I do? I am lost 😞.

We have not had much sex in the last few months, which has probably led her to do this. We have been dating for 3.5 years and I have enjoyed and loved this relationship.
There have been struggles throughout our relationship, but I believe we have both grown more mature and capable of communicating to one another.
I am feeling very empty and lots of my emotions turn to anger thinking about it as she has told me her stance on cheating. She would immediately end the relationship if I were to ever to do, no questions asked.
A somewhat recent example of her stance on this comes to mind about our past where an ex-girlfriend messages me on instagram saying she was in town. She asked me to meet with her and her friends, but I declined stating I was busy with my current GF. We continued a small text conversation talking about our current lives. I later let my current GF know about this and she lost it. Threatened to kick me out on the spot. She didn’t and we ended up staying together. I was confused and apologetic, but she still holds it against me.
I know there are many layers to a relationship and my post only gives a small glimpse of ours. I am willing to answer questions if there are any. If anyone reads this, what do I do? I am lost 😞.

After I was SA’d my mom said I was playing the victim. I begged her to make phone calls because it was too much stress for me. She said “this is your thing not mine.” she said I shouldn’t hate him and if I don’t forgive and let go, I’ll be miserable my whole life. My dad said rapists should be forgiven. I confided in her that I was feeling suicidal, she said “If you’re not serious you’re just gaslighting and manipulating me.” Then she angrily pointed at the dishes and said “those better be done by morning.” My dad said if I don’t let him touch me (my fear of men) then I’m a spoiled ungrateful brat. He also said “you’ve been reading too much woke bullshit.” He forced himself on me anyways no matter how much I cried. He would give me back rubs and touch my thighs, mimicking my abuser as revenge. I quit my job at Home Depot because a customer pulled his dick out at the register. I reached out to job & family services for help. The lady there judged me for being so weak. She said “oh come on, you can’t let these things get to you.”
I became homeless to flee my dad. My half sister (let’s call her Emma) begrudgingly let me stay with her. My other half sister (let’s say Hannah) was looking up SA lawyers for me, because I asked her to. It’s really hard for me to make those phone calls due to PTSD/panic attacks. Emma treated me like trash and gave me a nasty speech about how I don’t know how to be an adult, I don’t know what it’s like to work, and that Hannah is only helping me because I’m too lazy and refuse to help myself. I’ve been working since I was 16 and she knows that. I said “I’m asking her for help because it takes weight off my shoulders, it doesn’t mean I’m incapable.” Emma said “Ohhh really? So I can text her right now and tell her to stop then?” I said “If that’s what you really want to do...” so Emma pulled up her phone to text Hannah. I called Hannah and she said she never received such a text. Now I don’t know who is lying. Either way though, I don’t care. What the fuck? So I left the next day. That wasn’t the only manipulative and rude thing Emma did. She said “you’re almost 25 you can’t play the victim forever!” She only said “playing the victim” to hurt me. I naively confided in her earlier how much it hurt when my mom said those words. Mistake. See how our insecurities WILL be used against us?
I mustered up the courage to make a police report. The cop said it was all my fault for not saying “no” or “stop” to my uncle groping me. That my uncle would reasonably believe it’s ok unless I said stop. He said “your case isn’t going anywhere” and “next time, how about about you don’t wait so long.” then hung up. Never heard from him again. He blamed me for waiting 6 months to report. I’m still unemployed, still haven’t found a lawyer (for both my uncle and to sue that cop) because it’s too much stress. All I do is sleep and eat garbage. My parents and sisters are dead to me. My aunts and uncles still hang out with my abuser uncle knowing what he did. I have no one left to trust and no help. Not that I’d take “help” anymore anyways. What a fucking waste of time. I learned these lessons the hard way. Keep any insecurities or vulnerabilities to yourself. It’s only fuel for others to take advantage of. I guess file a police report but not without recording every conversation and phone call. Cops are corrupt on a level I never imagined. They won’t show it if there’s evidence. Both men and women change up their whole attitude and behaviors if you’re alone. It’s always when alone. Take notice. Briefly, I have had a J-1 visa in the past that was funded by the U. S government (No, not a Fulbright scholarship) for an exchange year at a U.S university. I have not yet completed the 2 year home residence requirement (in fact I stayed a total of 1 year in my home country before having to leave again for studies).Subsequently, I became a physician (FYI did medical school in a country other than my home country) and right now I am on a J-1 visa for internal medicine residency in the U.S. Question is fairly simple but the lawyers I talked to don't seem to give me a straight forward answer: Will I be able to apply to a J-1 waiver through CONRAD 30 or HHS to waive both J-1 home requirements? Does CONRAD 30 and HHS fall under an IGA waiver? Does having a previous J-1 which was funded by the U.S gov (unfortunately I know it complicates everything) stand in my way of obtaining a CONRAD 30 or HHS waiver (FYI I'm in primary care, IM specifically)? Ironically, home minister Amit Shah is seen as the government’s foremost champion of Hindi. Four years ago, a comment by Shah about the expansion of Hindi being a “national responsibility” and his pitch for “the entire country (to have) one language that becomes the identity of the nation” had triggered protests in Tamil Nadu against the “imposition of Hindi”. The order to the CHD said: “It has been decided to discontinue with the awards given by Central Hindi Directorate, New Delhi. I was recently talking to much younger adoptees and discovered that they did not know about closed record domestic adoptions, and that they definitely did not know about the Baby Scoop era.
I am a Baby Scoop baby myself. I will tell my story here, and what I know about my mother's story. It's not unusual at all for 1967.
My mother, who was 22 and unmarried when she got pregnant, entered a maternity home run by a religious organization. The maternity home paid for itself through an arrangement it had with an adoption placement agency, as well as through church funding. According to interview transcripts, my mother was told by the maternity home that if she did not go through with giving me up, she would have to reimburse them for the cost of her room and board and hospital fees.
I have had one letter from my mother. She said that when I was born, she was told she could not hold me or name me as it would be for the best if she forgot about me, as those things might make her too attached. She said she wanted no contact with me now, and I have complied. However, I have demanded my records from the agency. I have seen my foster care records. They say I cried a lot when I was left alone, and so they put me down and left me alone a lot to "train" me to soothe myself as a newborn infant.
I know that I went from the hospital directly to a group foster home that was run by the adoption agency. The agency was paid by the state for infant foster care. They were required by law to foster us for one month before they were legally eligible to place us. I don't know if my mother was ever even told what agency took me. The adoption agency then charged my adoptive parents the equivalent of a new car in 1967 dollars - I have the invoices and the receipts. Some of that money went to the religious maternity home, to assist in covering my mothers' costs, but a lot of state money was also paid out to social workers from the agency and to the agency itself for the mandated foster care. Between the state's payments and my adoptive parents' payments, I seem to have inadvertently paid a lot of people's salaries as a brand-new baby.
The adoption agency placed me on the day that the legally-required one month of foster care was up. At the time, if possible, prospective adoptive families were matched to babies by skin color and race, so that the baby would "match" the new parents and the adoption could be hidden from everyone. My amended birth certificate lists my skin color. My race, however, was incorrect as provided by the agency. It matched my adoptive parents. I don't know whether the agency changed it, or if my bio mother lied, or if she truly did not know who my actual father was. I did not know my actual race from my father's side until DNA kits became publicly available. I only knew that I did not visually match my adoptive parents, and that it did not make sense because I was "the same" as them. I'm not the only adoptee whose race was was changed to match white parents. I have seen other adoptees' stories here and elsewhere.
When my adoption decree was signed, all of my vital records were sealed and my birth certificate was amended. This was standard practice. I am not allowed to see my birth certificate to this day because of the laws of the state I was born in.
My mother was not offered any counseling or help following the birth, as was standard. I assume that once she gave birth, she was no longer valuable enough to waste resources on. My "much more stable" adoptive home was evaluated by a series of three home visits from the agency social workers, these visits again paid for by the state. My new home was with two alcoholics with marital problems they hoped a baby would fix. They divorced, and my adoptive father walked away, leaving me with a single mother, just like I would have started with if my actual mother had not been convinced to give me away to the strangers who stood to profit off me.
I am not angry at my mother or my adoptive parents. However, if thoughts could set fires, the agency would be ashes by now.

I had a rough childhood in almost every aspect, growing up was hard.. right from the start I was having trouble excelling in school. I flunked my first year of kindergarten, and then I had to repeat the 8th grade. It was a miracle every time that I somehow made it through. I paid attention and studied hard, but there was just something that wasn't right and I didn't understand. My parents boiled it down to me not paying attention and I would just cry because I knew that wasn't the case.. trying to talk back and have an actual conversation with my parents was impossible though.. I'd get a smack to the face from my mother, and don't let it be my father I was talking back to! He'd beat me until another tear wasn't able to fall.. my father was an alcoholic and always kept the cupboards packed with booze, when I was 14 I snuck some for myself to just see what was so good about it, and I thought it'd be a fun experience.. I was already dealing with tons of anxiety and self loathing at this age, I felt like a fucking failure and after that first night of trying alcohol- I found my cope. I started getting drunk alone in my room when my parents would go to bed at least 4-5 nights out of the week.. I was scared of being caught , but I thought that my father was getting too drunk every night to realize whether or not he drank the alcohol that was missing, I was right.
prioritizing drinking over my school work caused my grades to flunk further, by the time I made it into the 10th grade I was 18, still struggling and holding on by a thread. Literally all I could think about was getting home and drinking my problems away. I dropped out of school because it was getting increasingly harder, making friends was easy for me as a kid, but when I entered my teenage years, it's like my personality left and I felt/still feel like a walking mental illness.. I didn't know how to be happy or have fun anymore, my only idea of fun was drinking, which I did alone. After dropping out, I stayed at home most days, jacking off during the day to pass time, I was always ready for it to be night time.. I knew I was addicted, but I didn't care. Dropping out of school was the biggest mistake ever, for the next year and half that's literally all I did, drink and masturbate. My dad was still very emotionally abusive, but he didn't physically abuse me anymore.. I think because I reached his height and level of strength at that point. They harassed me about getting a job everyday and told me I needed therapy, and that they'd pay for it. I refused and all of this just led to more resentment, how are you going to offer help for what caused? I struggled with symptoms of OCD growing up, it was basically just the kind that my mind would get set on a situation and I'd end up overthinking it.. these thoughts came from a place of concern, but then I started to suffer from very very frightening intrusive thoughts- everyday my mind was plagued with the thought of killing my parents, especially my dad. The fact that my father had guns locked up in the house made these thoughts even scarier for me. I thought at one point I was going to actually end up doing it- it felt like my real self was watered down and that some kind of evil lived in me and I felt like I was barely in control of my own body. I used to stare at the guns/knives in the kitchen and just try to actually think about what it would be like.. by doing this, I thought it would scare me out of having these thoughts, but they only grew stronger.. because of this, I started to abuse alcohol even more, sleeping more hrs of the day and would go for walks randomly to put myself at a distance to protect my parents from my own self.. my family has never been been the religious kind, but I would just pray at night and ask God to take these thoughts away or at least let me die in my sleep. Suicidal thoughts never stayed with me long, I wanted to die, but I was too weak to do it myself. Every cope that I had worked somewhat, but I needed something more, I started to cut myself on my arms/thighs/and chest and it made living a bit easier. The thoughts still continued to grow and I had no options, I was either going to end up commiting a crime so evil, or accept help from my parents.. so I did.
I started to attend one therapy session a week until my therapist suggested I started seeing him twice a week.. I told him about my sick obsessive thoughts, how I've been drinking since I was 14, the self harming, and how I struggled in school.. that topic kinda stayed on the back burner for like 3 months because I was dealing with much scarier stuff at the time. I ended up getting an official diagnosis for depression, OCD and ADHD.. which probably explains a lot for why I struggled in school so much. I was prescribed Zoloft but due to his knowing of my struggles with alcohol, I wasn't able to get a narcotic for my ADHD. my OCD started to simmer down some l, but the thought still stayed in the back of my head always and was overwhelming. I was able to get a job in a factory, working in an environment like this was terrible.. I tried to avoid talking to others because I never wanted there to be a potential conflict, I was scared that if that happened I would end up being plagued with the thoughts of hurting others, it happened from time to time.. but those thoughts wore off, my thought of hurting my parents is still with me to this day. I continued to work up until I could get my own place, it was a crappy apartment, but at least being there kept me in distance from my parents, the only time I went over to visit was when I wanted to steal some alcohol.. which was often.
I had gotten a hold on the self harming, well besides drinking.. I was almost 20 at this point and then me and my therapist started to speak more about how about how I struggled in school.. how it was the spark for me falling into addiction. I then was diagnosed with dyscalculia and dysgraphia.. everything started to make sense now, I finally knew why I struggled so badly in school and now it was too late.. I never received any help, you'd think that someone in the school system would have suggested help- but no.. it was just brushed off as laziness. And the only response I got from bad grades, is a beating. After that diagnosis I started to self harm again, I was cutting almost everyday. This made my resentment grow for my parents, to the point of hatred for the both of them, especially my father.. my mother was abusive too, and I was definitely neglected as a child, but I blame my father even more.. this led me back to having the same thoughts and they were stronger than ever. I stopped going over there and eventually was able to buy alcohol from a gas station that didn't bother to ID.. I had so much built up anger and I had to take it out on someone or something.. every time I would get drunk, I'd end up punching more and more holes in my wall.. I'm afraid to move because I know I'd be sued out the ass. It's now been another year, im 21 and haven't spoken to my parents in like 7 months for the sake of their own safety.. I can't make friends, have a girlfriend, or even have a pet because I'm insanely afraid of what I could do in moments of rage.. besides the meds, I stopped going to therapy because I wasn't really getting anywhere. I feel like a lost cause and I really don't know what to do. What's there to work with? I have no intelligence, I'm severally mentally ill, realistically, I'll probably stay working a dead end job until I die alone of liver failure or something. I've been running a 60" Panny VT60 for the last 9 years and change. Has a very small amount of burn-in due to a former roommate doom-watching CNN during the 2020 election cycle but other that it still runs and looks excellent.
The reason I'm looking to upgrade? A "new" place. The Panny was excellent in my apartment when I was sitting 7ft away and had no direct sunlight to deal with. Now in my new place my viewing distance has jumped to ~13ft and the TV sits directly opposite a full wall of westerly facing windows.
Now, that being said, I've been in this "new" place for 5 years and I've been living with the Panny that entire time. The real difference is that I'm finally in a position where I can afford a meaningful upgrade without feeling like I'm sacrificing from the litany of home improvement projects I have to do. So after my research the upgrade path is pretty clear: An 85 inch mini-LED. Unfortunately that's just not in my budget. So I'm really looking at the 75" range of the usual suspects: X95K, QN90b/c, etc in the $3k and lower range.
So that brings me to the real questions here:
Any feedback is welcome. I'm not in a hurry to buy but I'm also not expecting something like an 83" A90J to suddenly drop into my price range either.

- I know the formula of "bright room + direct sun = mini-led" but since I've "gotten by" with a plasma for this long, should I really be excluding OLED? Yeah, there are days in the winter where the afternoon sun is so much that even with the shades down I can barely see a dark scene on the TV, but I manage well enough. And generally I don't sit down to watch a movie on a Sunday afternoon when sports are on. I gotta think that standard OLEDs (C2, A80K) are bright enough when compared to plasma. Even if it's not necessarily ideal. Unfortunately the 77" QD-OLED panels are too expensive for me.
- I'm pretty well convinced that the bump in screen real estate from 60 to 75 (or 77 of OLED is a consideration obviously) is plenty for me, even at this viewing distance. But I'd love to hear from others. Anyone make that jump at a similar viewing distance who could share their experience?
