If they wanted to do a real hardcore race they should have let players play through diablo's 1 through 3 and beat them all on Hardcore at a set torment all live stream on twitch and submit the vod as proof, If you survive all 3...then they should have just allowed early access to the game to anyone that owned it and completed the challenge this Sunday so we could have had something to watch over this last week and hype us up for launch it would be well over by the 1st and the ultimate hype event...instead we got a bunch of ill will days before the event and another trashy twitch drop system no one asked for.
Very into large rust bases right now, who are the base builders for all of the teams in this past twitch rivals?
For example, I know for team hjune the base builder is sven, went to check out his YT and really like what I'm seeing. I'm tryna go back and watch the vods of all the base builders and see what they come up with.
-- Let's see if this works since I've been having trouble posting/keeping this up! ... Once again lol --
Hello there everyone! It is I! Thorebane, once again, I am here to give you the upcoming GDQ event info and links as I do each year! I'd just like to put this as a first and foremost notification before I go into links and info since I have had many DMs!
This year, we return to Minnesota!!!Summer Games Done Quick 2023 Returns In-Person!!!!!!!
With that now out the way,
WELCOME!!! So... what is GDQ?
GDQ is a semi-annual video game speed-run charity marathon held in the United States, originally organized by the Speed Demo's Archive and Speed-runs Live communities. The two main marathons, AGDQ and SGDQ, are both 7-day, 24-hour straight marathons that are streamed on Twitch and YouTube.
Apart from the streams being in English, in the last few years there has been a French, German, Spanish and even a Russian re-stream with people giving up their own time to translate and commentate in their own native language. Since 2015, it has been handled by Games Done Quick, LLC.
Held since 2010, the events have raised money for several charities; the most common two being the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Doctors Without Borders.
Below is this year's schedule! (The schedule will automatically revert to the time zone you're logged in on now!)
--- Schedule --- Below is the VOD Post for the last marathon - AGDQ 2023 if you'd like to catch up on some games that ran earlier this year! (u/VODThread I hope you got your scripts set up ready this year! hehe)
VOD LINK!
The link below is for the main Twitch stream - (Many re-streams on e.g. Twitch, YouTube, and other platforms will happen, including multi-language streams, however, Twitch is the mainstream that GDQ goes live on as usual).

Below is the link to donate! Here you can also split amounts and pick depending on what money you donate, to win prizes and other things like choosing names of characters in some games, or even voting for bonus games/levels/rounds!
(More will unlock as the event goes on)
(100% of
ALL donated money goes directly to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)).
Let's raise some money!

Quick. This marathon is usually held at the start of most people's summers/end of exam time for schools. (Most typically a week either at the end of June or the start of July, again, running Sunday to Sunday).
Last SGDQ we had, it was the first one in person since the whole Covid Pandemic begun, where we raised a grand total of -
$3,053,827
Since this SGDQ will be a return after a year of online only, and with such an absolutely fantastic games line up.... I really think we could beat that total!!
In total, GDQ has now raised for charities since it began over
-
$43.8 MILLION dollars!!! That's INSANE! Unfortunately, with the ... quite late, and bought forward date changes for SGDQ this year, (as usually it is the middle to end of July) I was unable for the first few days to get time off work to help out with all this, but I'll be here for the finale!!
So what games or runners are catching your attention?!
What intro are the hosts going to make us laugh with this year?!
What prize do you want to donate for?!
Let's get some HYPE! 💪🕹️🎮
See you soon peeps!!
I am a fundamentals enjoyer. I am also an Alois believer. I also have complete garbage mechanics as a riven otp (I've seen gold rivens with better mechanics than me), but I still can hard 1v9 games thanks to Alois sensei's teachings. Some people don't have the time investment to watch every single one of Alois's vods for the past 3 months, so I just wanted to post a summary of the thought processes of the first 4 waves, which in 90% of games decide the entire laning phase. This is riven based, but applicable to almost any toplaner
Alois probably explains it much, much better in his course (
https://www.aloisnl.com/), but here's a brief thing i wrote up:
First thing we want to do in our first 4 waves is get wave priority. This means ensuring that enemy minions die faster than ours, and we achieve this by hitting the enemy minions more than enemy does. Why is this important?
\-We hit our level up timers faster, meaning we have very big trade opportunities. Our enemies cannot fight us when we're up a level \-Bigger minion wave means that enemy can't trade into us as easily because we have more minions, hence deal dmg \-Enemy has to focus on last hits, meaning that we can freely farm and look to trade on opponent when they go for last hits \-Priority allows us to do whatever we want with the wave, and the ball is in our court to manipulate the wave however we want DISCLAIMER: achieving wave priority does not mean you have to continually hit minions and try to kill them as fast as possible - it simply means we have to hit the wave MORE THAN OUR OPPONENT. How much we want to hit wave depends on which wave you want to crash DISCLAIMER 2: in some instances, we don't even want to hit wave, and we want it to push to us. there are a few scenarios where this might happen: \-We zone enemy off first 3 melee's, and now the enemy is down xp. The enemy is screwed if we let it push to us. Alois has many videos/guides where he does this \-Enemy is contesting wave at lvl 1, and we dont have easy way to win lvl 1. Examples include darius, urgot, ranged matchups etc. However, if we CAN achieve wave prio here, the matchup becomes 10 times easier for reasons outlined above \-Enemy jg is pathing towards us/might lvl 2/3 gank us. In these scenarios, we would love to lvl 2 wave crash. However, if enemy is contesting us lvl 1, it is actually quite hard to get lvl 2/3 wave crash, even if we do ultimately get priority. Think cases like gp, where often times the first wave is neutral because we cant hit minions more than enemy. Then, better to just let wave push to us and concede priority than get wave frozen on us wave 2/3/4, where we'd be screwed bc jungler
Now, let's say we have wave prio level 1, whether because we just have stronger lvl 1 or bc enemy showed up to lane late (and this happens a lot more than you might imagine! take advantage of this!). Ideally, we've also taken a good trade thanks to level up timers/more minions/enemies going to last hit minions that they shouldnt. There's also a good chance we'll be up cs because enemy cant step up for a lot of the cs
Now what should we do?
Everything discussed below, you should have already planned out even BEFORE wave 1 has met, based on location of enemy jg pathing and your own (which you've already scouted with a deep ward lvl 1, right? ;-) ) Remember, we are not playing the matchup, we are playing the JUNGLE. why? Because with wave priority, the matchup no longer matters. We win regardless of the matchup, simply because we have WAVE PRIO
2nd wave crash:
Reasons: Enemy jg is pathing to us, and our jg is pathing away from us. we can then wave 2 crash and let wave bounce to us. we will not be gankable as long as we chill and play back. MAKE SURE NOT TO CONTEST ON BOUNCE IN THIS SCENARIO. often times you will just have to let enemy crash into your tower and play out bounce
Your jgler is pathing to you. We let wave bounce towards us after crash, while thinning out wave to match level up timers. This allows us to freeze at our tower without much trouble. The enemy will be vulnerable to ganks, and there is a good chance he hasnt warded yet because he's been shoved in for first 2 waves! we spam ping our jg for gank bc our wave is perfect
How to achieve:
in order to 2nd wave crash, we want to be hitting minions quite a bit lvl 1, to the point where second wave comes, we want to minions to meet roughly in the center of the lane, but the enemy has very little minions left over from wave 1. Often times, we will have to skill our W (as riven) to achieve clean wave 2 crash. Remember, you hit lvl 2 off 4 melee and 2 casters. In other words, you need to kill all minions of first wave minus 1 caster, then the next melee of wave 2. Abuse this! Look for aggro trade right before melee minion about to die! actively hit melee and surprise opponent with lvl 2!
We dont actually want to reset after 2nd wave crash, because our gold is minimal and we'll lose too many minions to justify it. However, a 2nd wave crash can easily become a 4th wave/5th wave crash/4th wave into proxy
3rd wave crash:
Not the most ideal crash (unless you plan on proxying wave 4), but still often useful
Reasons: You know for a fact enemy jg is full clearing towards top so you dont want to 4th wave crash. In this scenario, 2nd wave crash often still more optimal. HOWEVER
\-lets say your 2nd wave crash didnt go to plan. you didnt hit wave enough/too focused on trading, and you cant clean second wave crash. However, theres still too many minions for you to get 4th wave. In this case, we can third wave crash
How to achieve: get wave prio, but dont hit minions too much. Ideally, a couple enemy casters from wave 1 lived, and you hit lvl 2 first. Slowpush wave 2, and hardpush wave 3.
Why is 3rd wave crash not optimal? Remember, this is assuming you aren't proxying wave 4
Couple of reasons:
Resetting after wave 3 crash is extremely awkward. When I watched a lot of LS's streams a few years ago, he often advocated for 3rd wave crash into cheater recall, which I tried to copy. However, for riven, you'll find that the gold you reset with is kinda shitty (tbh I dont remember the gold values). Also, enemy can slowpush wave 4, 5, and even 6. When you return to lane, the enemy will have massive wave, be lvl 4 to your lvl 3, and you cant stop them from crashing into your tower. Then, if they're smart, they'll just reset with much higher economy than you, return to lane, and you have to play out bounce. This is fine from time to time if you're not scared of enemy jg and enemy laner can't contest you on bounce, but if they have decent waveclear with item advantage and/or enemy jg is nearby, its a bit doomed. You'll be stuck in lane for a long time down item
Let's say we don't reset after wave 3, and enemy jg is pathing towards us. Again, enemy hits lvl 4 first, with big wave and can slowpush into us. This isn't so bad if our jg is pathing into us, but in that case, lvl 2 wave crash makes ganks a lot easier for our jgler bc of the way jg timings work. And if our jgler isnt pathing to us, then as with the reset, enemy can use level up adv/more minions to slowpush, secure crash, reset, walk/tp to lane with item lead, and we're locked in lane for a long, long time. We would have to play out bounce, and if enemy jg comes that's gg
Why is enemy hitting lvl 4 first so much harder to deal with enemy hitting lvl 3 as on second wave crash? After all, if we crash on second and let it bounce, doesnt enemy hit lvl 3 first as well? Why is that so much more tolerable?
Because lvl 3 is achieved off first 2 melees in wave 3, while lvl 4 is achieved off 3 melees + 1 caster in wave 4. This means that for us to hit lvl 3, its quite easy: just kill the first 2 minions on the 3rd wave meeting. However, hitting lvl 4 is much harder as the recipient of the bounce, because we have to kill a lot more minions, and the enemy is likely to hit lvl 4 and zone us from remaining minions before we get 4.
Let's say enemy jg is pathing away from us: Then in that case, a wave 3 crash actually becomes good because we can proxy wave 4!
So we crash huge wave 3 into enemy tower. Now we simply walk past enemy through tower because he has to focus on last hits. Proxy wave 4 as fast as you can and reset, walk back to lane
Now, enemy has 2 options
\-stay: however, because you proxied wave 4, you'll actually be back at around the same time that wave 5 arrives, meaning you havent missed anything (not sure how it works with minion speed update, though should still be roughly the same). Now, you can come back with double longsword or some insane items, and enemy is stuck in lane with starting items \-back: However, bc enemy first has to catch wave 4, he backs much, much later than you. If he walks back to lane, he misses first 3 melees of wave 5, and if he tps, he just lost tp for free. If he walks back, we hit our lvl up timers much faster for the rest of lane phase, and can abuse it accordingly. Also, remember that you will have same gold on reset, so he gets 0 advantage
wave 4 crash:
Requires a couple conditions to achieve:
Only do it if enemy jg pathing away from you, or you are EXTERMELY confident you can 1v2/wont get ganked
Wave 1 is completely neutral, and minion waves are almost completely even first wave. Meaning that you only achieve this crash if enemy isnt contesting the wave, or that he's contested it so hard that wave 1 is amost dead by the time wave 2 comes. In both cases, if you can then achieve wave prio, you can 4th wave crash. The important part here is that you need to be confident that you will get wave prio despite waves being nearly even aka you are stronger early champ. Great vs tanks like mundo/ornn
Then, we simply slowpush wave 2/3, and hardpush wave 4
Another way to achieve this crash is to first 2nd wave crash, then get wave prio wave 3 by hitting minions more than opponent, slowpushing wave 3, and hardpushing wave 4.
From here, we have a lot of options:
\-reset. We will have a decent reset if you've been farming well, and you'll be able to come back to lane same lvl as opponent (remember, lvl 5 is achieved on cannon minion of wave 6). Your goal should then be to thin out wave while still letting wave push to you, match lvl up timers, and look to fight with item lead \-look for scuttle (only if both jg is pathing away from you). You'll miss like 1 or 2 melees, and will have to continue laning normally, but with a slight gold/xp lead \-proxy wave 5 -> reset. Same as proxying wave 4, except you and opponent will have more gold. Your proxy is even faster (see below in notes), and since next wave 6 is cannon, opponent has a chance to miss cannon minion (even better!) and you get lvl 5 instantly, which gives you automatic prio (as opposed to wave 4 proxy, where you dont have auto level up timer when u come back to lane) \-proxy wave 5 -> scuttle. The greediest of greed. You are forced to stay in lane after this, but you have lots of gold/xp lead, but you cant use it. However, imagine enemy simply resets after catching wave 5 and tps back, while you stay in lane. You're kind of screwed, so not recommendable unless you're extremely confident that you'll be able to secure a reset
There's also wave 5 crash, wave 6 crash etc, but its same concepts as outlined above
other things to keep in mind:
The instant you see enemy jg, pan camera to him and press tab. Check his buffs, which buff he took first (the one that expires faster), his cs (one camp is 4 cs), and you can easily determine his pathing from that. Think about which camps he still has to take, so you can calculate where he'll be next 30 seconds. After that, you know where he'll be in the next minute bc his respawing camps will be the ones he took first, and then after that as well, bc it'll be the next respawning camps and so on. If enemy jg 3 camps into bot gank, you know that he'll be topside in the next 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Helping to clear a ward/clearing a ward/participating in fb will mean that you hit lvl 2 off first 6 minions. Abuse this! No one will play around this in lower elos
at lvl 4 with longsword, 2 q's and a w kills backline mininons
At lvl 9, 2 q's kill backline minions
Hence, our proxy pattern at lvl 4 should be -> auto melee -> q all melees -> auto melee -> walk into wave -> q all casters -> (auto a caster if you missed one) -> 3rd q all minnions -> w all minions. weave in autos on melee minions if you can. finish off melees with autos
