2023.05.28 18:07 Lolitapop300 My (27F) boyfriend (32M) told me he was not a taxi driver when me and his little sister (21F) were scared to get assaulted.
Hi guys, (Pardon my english, I am french), I need a different perspective on a situation i had yesterday because I am doubting my relationship and I am wondering if I am making things up. Yesterday, me, my boyfriend (lets call him Kevin) and his little sister (lets call her Marianne) went in our hometown which is 2hours and a half away from our current home to meet with friends and have some fun. The plan was that me and Marianne would meet some friends, go eat and then go to a club while he goes see his friends on his side and when we are ready to go back home, we had to text him and he would pick us up in time. The restaurant was great! We had a good time we enjoyed but when we arrive to this club, it went downhill.
We first got there because we heard many good reviews (my boyfriend and some of my friends in that group said good things too) so we trusted that. We were dress properly, (if it matters), we were not were not wearing revealing clothes a tad sexy but not exaggerated , I even wonder on my side if they would let me in because I was dress with clothes i put on everyday. In my city, you can’t go in a club wearing sneakers or wearing jeans, you have to dress a certain way to get in. So we arrived there, and the club, looks trash, it was not the type of club we are used to go. Even my friends were surprised and says that it was not like that when they went before covid. The club was small and jumpack, there was a lot of street members, the guys would touch us when we try to walk in the crowd, they will grab our hands and literally try to convince us to drink with them and they wouldn’t take no for an answer. Fortunately for us, we manage to stay together(no we didn’t drink with guys), but understandably, for these reasons, most of my friend left not without making sure that we were not alone.
So at that point, It was me, Marianne and another friend. I texted my boyfriend at 1:45 am to inform him of the situation and ask him to pick us up, and he said he would be there in 30 minutes. So we waited 20 minutes inside the club, but at some point, we couldn’t take it anymore so we went outside to wait for the remaining ten minutes. Now the guys outside were super aggressive, and wouldn’t take no for an answer. They were more aggressive than inside the club. We were super scared. 10 minutes passed (2:15) and kevin is no were to be found. Therefore, I am trying to call him but he doesn’t pick up the phone. At somepoint 10 minutes later (about, 2:25 am) I literally texted him, for the love of god where are you, there are guys that wont leave us alone please come. This is where he called us. He tell us he will be there in 15-20 minutes because his friends needs a lift to their cars. Mind you they all have their own car, but they decided to use his car to go to a casino that is 15-20 min away. The timing doesnt make sens, It shouldnt have taken that long.
I am pissed but I dont say anything, but I tell him to hurry up, because we don’t feel safe. At some points, our feet hurt, we are physically tired, and as time passed, the guys were more drunk so more aggressive so we decided to go down the street and sit inside a bus shelter.
15-20 minutes passed (around 2:45) and he is still not here. My friend take a cab and go home, so its me and Marianne. Now we have to deal with the crack heads, they started banging on the bus shelter, so we leave this place but they follow us and start calling us name. We are scared as they are supper aggressive. I call my boyfriend, he ignores my call and my text, but when his sister calls, he pick up the phone, and he says he is still with his friend and that he will be here in another 15 minutes. I can hear his friend in the back of his car. I am pissed I am telling him we are scared, and I ask him if he was really coming , he says yes, there is traffic but he’ll be here.
Mind you, there was no sign of any traffic on our side.
Another 15 minutes passed, we are walking, we are cold, so his sister call him, i grab the phone, and I let him know that we are really scared, that we have been waiting after him, we have no where to go (my friends do not live close from where we were) and its been a while now. I told him that I couldn’t trust him to come in time, otherwise we would have made other plans so we dont have to wait alone in the night, that we were scared to get raped, but he woudln’t budge. I asked him, when he knew he had to pick us up tonight, why they didn’t take separate car to go in the casino, (his friends all came with their cars) , he said that I was on speaker phone (with an embarrassed voice) and I shouldn’t say that. His sister, picked up the phone, and even told him 4 times that we were scared.
Now its 3 am, and he still hasn’t showed up, we are super cold, and almost out of battery, and dont know what is happening . We keep on calling him and he says he is close. 15 minutes later, I text my best friend about the situation, and how pissed and scared I am, she is ready to come get us, and finally he arrived. It was 3:15 am . We texted him at 1:45am. There is no way it took that long (1 hour and a half) to come pick us up. Obviously, we get in the car and we are angry. I explain to him what happened and that the fact he was not reliable and prioritized his friends over us put us in a dangerous predicament. Which he answered, that he is not a taxi driver. I didn’t want to say more because his sister were with us but to say that I was shocked would be an under statement. I asked him, what if something would have happened to his little sister or to me, he answered that not his fault if he couldn’t arrive in time, that we should have waited inside the club and then he proceeded to give me attitude for stressing him out.
He is never like that normally, he is the sweetest and such a gentleman but yesterday, I didn’t recognize him.
Was I the AH? Did I overreacted? Am I crazy for feeling the way I am feeling? What would you do after this? I need advice.
Oh and by the way, before someone asked, I didn’t call my friend sooner because every time he said that he would be there in 15-20 minutes, which is faster than the amount of time it would have taken my friend to come pick us up.

2023.05.28 18:01 GeekOutHuntsville The current negative state of EV charging in Huntsville
It's only temporary, but in response to this post from a few weeks ago (
https://www.reddit.com/HuntsvilleAlabama/comments/139vii4/bridgestreet_teslas/), here's the status of current EV charging - not a complaint, just an update for the fellow EV drivers (which Madison County has the most per capita in the state):
Negative:
1)
Whole Foods: Chargepoint removed the 2 chargers, unannounced, a couple of weeks ago. Apparently, the corporate deal between Whole Foods Inc and Chargepoint faltered. The shopping center is working on bringing in an alternative solution.
2)
Stovehouse: one of the chargers has been down for perhaps ~1 year. (having only one available means it's very unreliable)
3)
Bridgestreet: one of the chargers is down, and the other one works intermittently. (this is why you may find EVs parked there but not charging - after failed attempts)
Positive:
1)
Redstone Gateway (with Rocket City Tavern and other restaurants) has 4 good chargers via Sema Connect (soon to be Blink) that were installed by The Lioce Group.
2)
Ashley Garage on Governors Dr has 2 Blink chargers, across from Blue Plate, installed by Kris Price.
3)
Coming soon: Four new DC fast chargers at Twickenham in the parking deck by Publix should open by end of summer. (by Seven States Power)
Many
other charging spots are around town, but as a growing city we need to see many more.
Other reliable options (not at workplaces): South Hsv Library, Redstone FCU Twickenham, Space & Rocket Center, MidCity (Tesla Supercharger), HudsonAlpha, Five Points (1)

2023.05.28 17:58 GrayGray4468 A look back at Paris 🪖
ICYMI -- here are some of the top moments coming out of the final major of CS:GO: Liquid Rolls Back the Years (to 2019 not 2018)
Who had Liquid
0-2 to 3-2 in the BLAST Paris Challengers Stage?
After getting embarrassed by
Apeks & ForZe on Day 1, few believed NA’s darlings would recover from their disastrous start... until they got matched against
Fluxo in the 0-3 pool.
Fluxo got
16-2’d by paiN -- how could Liquid lose?
(If I had a nickel for every time I asked that question I wouldn't be writing this) In classic Liquid fashion, they gave their 14 year old fanbase multiple heart attacks throughout the series. Despite being pushed to the edge, Liquid pulled through to live on at the Major. After steamrolling their NA brethren in Complexity, Liquid faced Grayhound for the last spot in the Legends stage. It was a layup of a match for them, taking care of the dawgs in two maps and continuing their major run.
Surprisingly, they didn’t choke on the opening day of Legends.
They destroyed 9INE and Na’Vi to go 2-0, off the back of a disgusting match by YEKINDAR.
Liquid 3-0 pickers slept happy that night,
but their bubble was popped the following day 🫧
Up against their kryptonite (5 dudes from Denmark) Liquid failed to take down
Heroic to earn their berth in playoffs, which tee’d them up for a 2-1 match against
Into the Breach. The Brits vs. Americans — what year is this, 1781?
Liquid made quick work of the world’s 28th best team on an overtime Overpass and one-sided Anubis, securing their spot among the 8 final teams in the Paris major. Despite not going 3-0, Liquid have made NA proud once again — perfect timing for the final CS:GO Major.
🇩🇰 Heroic and Vitality 🐝
I had Heroic as my
3-0 until I switched them for
ENCE. Please do not ask me how I’m doing.
ZywOo decided he wanted to win Paris, so that was cool ig. Bro dropped a 1.38 rating in their 3-0 run. Playing in his home city must’ve awoken something inside of him. Rumor has it the air quality is perfect in Paris — and this has something to do with his performances. On the Heroic side — they swept aside
FaZe and Apeks en route to their playoffs speedrun. They took down Liquid in the
2-0 pool for the cherry on top 🍒
G-2 Disappointing Majors in a Row
Déjà vu anyone? At least this time G2 actually made it to the major before bombing out in the Swiss Stage 🧀 After losing their opening match to the ZywOo Effect™️, they fumbled the bag by losing
16-13 to an org-less
Bad News Eagles 🦅 G2's backs were against the ropes — one Bo3 away from elimination in the final Major of CS:GO.
FURIA were next in line for G2, but their crippling lack of T-Sides allowed G2 to live another day. In the 1-2 pool, G2 found themselves against the
mezii-led fnatic in a game with elimination on the line. After taking each of their own map picks, the two euro-mixes found themselves on the game’s best fucking map for elimination:
DE_VERTIGO
nicoodoz came alive on the final map to turn the tides in favor of fnatic, who took the map 16-13. Minutes later, there were numerous reports of Chinese phone numbers hitting up members of G2.
The PLAYOFFS:
ZywOo decided this was his tournament to win. The Chosen One and his friends took home the slimy dorito trophy in front of the home crowd 🥖
Vitality scooped up their first major in an undefeated playoff run against some of the best teams in the world — Into the Breach, Apeks, and
GamerLegion. Yes. You are reading that correctly. To say they had an easy run is… an understatement. Sure, you can only face who is in front of you, and props to them for capitalizing. It just feels kinda lame how the playoffs of the final CS:GO major played out.
In other news, dupreeh took home his fifth Major title in Vitality’s dream run.
This makes him: - The only player to have won 5 majors 🎖
- The only player that has attended every major in history 🥇
- The player with the most career earnings all-time 💰
- The only player with the right to use that amazing Faze down, Ass up deagle nickname lmao 🔥
This dude really went from sweating bullets to sweating major trophies, huh? R.I.P DIAMOND COINS AGAIN 💎
When the Major comes around, there’s one CS:GO fans always like to bitch about — their Pick 'Ems. According to Leetify,
only 0.3% of players got the diamond coin this time around. This was better than Rio’s 0.1%, but still abysmal compared to the 8% and 11% of Berlin and Antwerp respectively.
Why did so few get the coin this time? Some of the biggest names failed to make it out of the legends stage. Teams like G2 and Na’Vi. The ones that did, like Heroic and Liquid, didn’t even make it past the semis. I don’t know about you, but the absolute last thing I was expecting was GamerLegion in the final. Here’s some of the notable matches that led to this wild playoff bracket:
- fnatic 2-1 versus G2 (ouch)
- GamerLegion 2-1 versus Heroic (ouch again)
- Apeks 2-0 versus Liquid
- Into the Breach 2-1 versus fnatic (UK on UK violence smh)
Guys This Isn’t a Disney Movie Why Are All These Underdogs Here 😳
He’s H-iM Let’s talk about the people who pulled off the upsets, who shook the scene to its core throughout the last major ever.
First on the list is
Mihai “iM” Ivan from GamerLegion. This guy was turning heads all tournament with his outstanding level of play against the very best.
Despite him and his team getting off to a disastrous start of
0-2 in the challengers stage, they fought their way all the way to the Grand Final. He ended the tournament with a stupid
1.35 HLTV rating, trailing only ZywOo.
Apex Legends Apeks Playoffs Another team that surprised everyone has to be Apeks— remember guys like
STYKO, jkaem, or nawwk? They impressed everyone by stealing a spot in the semis over NA’s darling.
In a run that seemingly came out of no where, yet another random mix of EU players stormed the game’s biggest stage, broke countless hearts, put up a solid fight against the eventual trophy lifters.
I'm just glad I didn’t put any money on these games. If I did, I’d probably have to resort to writing a CS:GO newsletter just to make rent!
Wait... If you like this sorta CS coverage -- I have a newsletter where I recap everything going on in CS. Highlights, news, memes, you name it. It's called The Defuse Kit. Here's the link:

2023.05.28 17:53 Haunting_Positive_49 I hate this city so much
I moved to this city almost a year ago and it's got to be the most toxic place in the whole damn country. The culture is just so awful- if you're ugly enough in somebody's eyes, they will either stop in their tracks and make a scene out of you, pull out their phone, start recording and stick it as close to you as possible, or simply insult you out loud as if they expect people to chime in. And sometimes people do! What the fuck??? I've never had to go through this before coming here in my entire life. I'd never even heard of it.
I get stared at almost anywhere I go. I can't order at a fast-food restaurant without customers already inside looking at me in disgust. Some even leave while looking at me to make sure I know I'm the reason why. If I line up behind someone, they always look back at me as if I'm about to do something. And if I'm waiting for my order, anyone waiting before me would often become super protective of their order and rush to get it when theirs got called. It's so stupid.
Supermarkets are the same- I almost always feel eyes on me when I walk through the door, and when I look to see who it is, the security guard is almost always included, and I say included because they are never the only one. I remember once I asked one where to get a basket and they looked like they were holding in their anger when they responded to me. I don't wear anything offensive, except maybe the colour green? I genuinely don't understand to this day how these people get so mad over the presence of someone they don't even know, because this is a recurring thing throughout the entire city.
I've had run ins with stores I planned to visit keep them locked up if I showed up before their opening time- This was absolutely baffling to me because this is so blatantly discriminatory and punishable, but they do it anyway! I've also been refused service, which is just completely unheard of to me outside of Japan, and many places I've been to openly express their reluctance to have me as a customer. This isn't just me reading into it, even- you could evidently see the change of their expression on their face when I become the next in line, ranging from serious with dead silence or outright hostile with a fucking cough!
Speaking of coughs, this drives me fucking nuts! I don't know the specific criteria for this anymore, but I've subject to so much violent coughing whenever I go anywhere, it's fucking insane to me that people do not react to it at all. I guess they're used to it? How could you be so okay with something so plainly aggressive? They do this until I either leave, look away, or just don't react at all because I'm too fucking tired to bother because of all the other shit these people put me through. Why the fuck is this normal here???
I can't sit on a bus without people watching me, and if I sit somewhere I'm not really visible, people will move to get a better view of me, or to record because apparently the sight of me is that much of a novelty. With that said, people even slow me to gawk at me on the road if I happen to be walking on the sidewalk, many of which are recording for some god damn reason even though I'm not doing anything. Speaking of cars, a lot of the time when I walk past one, I'll hear its lock go off to let me know they think I'm planning to steal it. Some people even go so far as to play their fucking panic buttons, as if it's fucking necessary when I'm not even on the same side of it in some cases. There's even an undercover cop in the neighbourhood that briefly sounds their siren when I walk by theirs, just for the fucking fun of it I guess. It's fucking ridiculous.
People have even made attempts to make turns into me while I'm walking across the street, it's so fucking dumb because they obviously want to make it look accidental, and when they mess up they either just stop right after or just laugh because they get a kick out of letting someone know they want them dead. And the people around me either don't care or laugh with them- it's clearly part of their fucking culture to terrorize people here and it's so despicable.
And I can't even forget the most important part, where these people literally have my schedule down and wait for me to turn up so they can either laugh- I don't even understand what for- and record it too- who the fuck is this even for??? I've been called ugly in the past and even bullied for it, but going through the trouble of following me everywhere I go to make a mockery of me or just insult me with that stupid coughing shit everybody fucking loves doing here, this is a fucking first. I literally just can't deal with this fucking place and I just hate it so much, but I'm bound to my lease and I can't leave without monetary fines I can't afford, but my entire reputation is ruined because of whatever it is these shitheads do with all this recording they fucking do and I cannot fathom how that even resulted in people expressing pure, unbridled hatred towards my presence anywhere in this fucking place and I'm just so done. If I ever forget to lock my door and I take a shower, I will come back out from it to find my door left ajar because they're apparently always watching. They even messed with it once in a way that stopped me from locking it properly, that it broke my key and I had to leave it unlocked to get a new copy, which they took as an opportunity to attempt to break into my fucking laptop.
Speaking of which, they also did while my apartment building had plumbers come in and go for lunch though the plumbers themselves also put me through even more shit. We needed to clear out our closets so they could still out a crawlspace, but since my unit doesn't have another one I had to leave my clothes across my dining table. These fuckers apparently took it as a queue to steal my fucking food, damage some of my property, leave shit all over my floors and my walls and even have the nerve to leave my fucking curtains open every time they come in as if they're just fucking forgetting. I remember once, they asked the landlord for more time in December, but it was fucking -30 and I wasn't staying outside so I went back to my place like usual and found they were leaving their dirty ass gear all over my fucking stuff. Is this a regular thing with plumbers? Their company is rated 4.7 out of 5- this is the best this city has to offer???
I can go on and on with all the dogshit that goes on in this place but I've so tired of being mad about how much these asshats have ruined my damn life and I'm just so furious because I'm pretty sure that aside from lucking out getting an apartment over 2 other candidates who submitted applications, it's because of my skin colour- I've tried changing outfits, my hairstyle, even tried different deodorants and I still get the same shit from these people every day. I'm so fucking done with this place and I hate how I can't get it off of my mind and how I probably never well since I have a sneaking suspicion theyre going to follow me wherever I go in this country and the police are just not going to do anything to help me, since I've already tried to get to help of this city's, only to be treated like a schizophrenic when they of all people should know about discrimination being a regular thing in this goddamn place. Fuck.
Everyone who hears of this just dismisses me, and I get how unbelievable it probably sounds, so just in theory, if it was all true, am I right in saying this place is just goddamn hell and I need to get out? I can't stand knowing I'd need to wait another 2 months and it feels like almost literally everyone is against me and no one even tells me why, they just want to keep laughing at me. Have I just been lucky my whole life and haven't known that this has always been normal? Because it's so fucking stupid

2023.05.28 17:23 darkerenergy Trip Report: 18 days + Golden Week (25/04 - 13/05)
Tokyo - Yokohama - Nagoya - Kyoto - Osaka - Tokyo
Hi all, going to go through our trip covering golden week and time around it (: It was myself (F21) and my partner (M24) and the reasoning behind the timing was mainly due to bank holidays in the UK being unfortunately placed perfectly in line with golden week this year! Despite this, I feel we actually got pretty lucky with it all. I'll put an emoji to note which days were for golden week but for the tl;dr we weren't affected that much.
Other important contexts, both interested in Japan for a few different reasons. Anime isn't a small one but I'm also a huge fan of the Yakuza games, he's into the JDM car scene, and we just enjoy travelling in general. We didn't do many things like Universal, Disneysea etc. but hopefully there's some things in here that people will enjoy hearing about! I'll go through some tips/recommendations for the casual readers first before going into the trip in depth - please let me know if there's anything else you want to know about!
Tips + Recommendations
Yamato Takkyubin Luggage Forwarding If like us you are going to be staying in quite a few different places, this service is so so so good I cannot overstate it. We had two big suitcases and one smaller one, we sent just the big ones for two of the trips and then for the final trip from Osaka to Tokyo we sent all 3 and just used our backpacks to bring essentials for the night.Pretty much all hotels will allow you to use the service, some may request you pay them with cash for the actual service but for all but one of ours we could use card. We sent Yokohama -> Kyoto, then Kyoto -> Osaka, then finally Osaka -> Tokyo. There are options for same day delivery I believe however we did both the next day and for a few days later. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments and I'll answer if I can!
Trip Planning I've been fortunate to be able to travel a lot so wasn't nervous about the actual travel, however Japan is such a far away country that I didn't want to go and get there then not know what to do and waste my time. In the past holidays with family were more about relaxing on a beach, or with my partner our city breaks are short as they are other European countries and so easier to return to if we wanted. I wanted to take a different approach to this trip so I made a big Google Sheet and Google Map with all the places I wanted to visit/see. It was never meant to be a strict itinerary as some people I showed seemed to assume 😅 But it really helped me to visually see where things I wanted to go to were, and then make a rough plan in case I did get stuck at some point.Anyway it was a really good idea in hindsight and I'm very glad we did it for this trip as our first time going! Here's a picture of the map looks like, we didn't necessarily do everything but we did most things -
https://i.imgur.com/2xLyy7Y.png. I used
mymaps.google.com, to be honest there's definitely betteeasier to use tools out there but I got this to work for me so I stuck with it.
Walking People aren't kidding about the amount of walking, although I think our top amount was still under 30k so don't worry too much. That said, if you don't walk a lot anyway then your feet are going to hurt. My partner was fine, I was awful. I thought my shoes would be fine and apparently they weren't so if you can pack walking boots please do. The other thing is I think the way you walk affects it too, my partner and I both had multiple pairs of shoes with us but where his converse boots were fine, the soles of my feet were awful in the same types of shoes 😭
Driving I am not a driver but my partner is. He has a full manual UK driving license and insurance, and so for Japan all he needed was to get the International Driver's Permit a little before we went. We rented a car for three different occasions, two times from the same place then the final was for a JDM rental. All was fine, the JDM place was confused for a moment as my partner has a Polish passport + UK license but we translated Poland for him and after that there were no issues! You'll need to check what you need depending on where you're from, it's easier for us due to the same driving side although when we rented for Daikoku and the Nagoya drive they did give us an automatic so just be aware of that if you want to request/drive manual. The rental places we used were Orix rent-a-car for the Daikoku and Yokohama -> Nagoya trip and we had a Mazda 2. For the JDM rental we used Omoshiro.
Trip Report
Tokyo
25/04 - Airport, Shinjuku hotel, Shinjuku We followed a similar first day that I'm sure many of these reports will begin with - arrived at the airport, we had filled out the VJW forms and had both QR codes ready to go. Immigration had about an hour wait so longer than normal but we were also near the back of our plane and there was at least another full plane in front of us. Actually going through immigration was a complete breeze. Once through and picked up our luggage, we got a Welcome Suica, then headed to Shinjuku. We reached our hotel about 4 hours early for check-in, wasn't sure what to do for that time but they were happy to take our bags until we could go to the room (something that is consistent with all the hotels we went to thankfully). Jetlag was pretty bad, I was flagging by afternoon but we pushed through it and took the few hours to just walk around and see the sights. We spent some time in Hakone-yama before heading back to the hotel and getting cleaned up/accidentally falling asleep too early.
26/04 - Akihabara, Golden Gai Of course woke too early by not being as proactive as we should've with warding off jetlag but used that to leave early for Akihabara. After getting some breakfast we saw the Yodobashi Camera and went in there for about an hour just looking at all the floors 😅 It was raining a ton but it surprised us with how warm it still was and quickly realised why people prefer umbrella with no raincoat!! Spent pretty much the whole day in Akihabara, went round a ton of shops and also went into our first of many many arcades we'd go to. We went back to the hotel to return the items we'd bought then walked to Golden Gai as our hotel was about a 15-20 minute walk ^^ Had some delicious ramen, unfortunately didn't drink as my partner was finishing antibiotics for the first few days but it was still great to be there. Slept a lot later which was good.
27/04 - Kabukicho, Shinjuku National Garden This was more a day for me to fufill my Yakuza game sightseeing. Being so close to Kabukicho I was so excited to visit a city and be able to make my way round without a map loool. It was just the end of the blue festival so the iconic arch was still blue although I did get to see it red at the end of the trip so I wasn't too bothered about that. We went around Kabukicho, the square, again spent tons of time in the arcades and discovered how much we enjoyed the MaiMaiDX machines. Ended up getting one of the passports that save your progress and give you an extra play so if you like arcades then I recommend them!! After this and some lunch, we were going to do a walk to the national garden then realised I went the wrong way so we took the train. As a side note here, the Suica and train system is so useful. Very similar to using a card for the underground except it's actually clean. Walked around the national garden, it was very sunny and warm. Didn't know it had it before going but there's a starbucks in the middle of the garden and we managed to join the queue about 10 minutes before they stopped taking new orders. Had a nice time watching the sun set in that garden before heading back to the hotel.
28/04 - Teamlabs Planets Wasn't something I was going to initially go to however I checked out tickets the day previously and saw some for this day and decided we could do it as we had a ton of free time. I had chosen 2:30pm for an entrance time however it was such a nice day so we left early and spent time just walking around the docks. It was so so sunny, the area didn't have loads going on however it was still very pretty. We spent time in the parks and walking alongside the water. Teamlabs was pretty cool, I did enjoy the water based sections although dodging both influencer and family photos might detract from your experience. This was also where I realised I'd already become the stereotype tourist and was sunburnt :') I guess I had to learn my lesson physically and I did thankfully stop any further burning after this with diligent sun cream appliance afterwards pretty much every day. After this we went back to Shinjuku and after food we packed up ready to go to Yokohama.
Yokohama
29/04 - Bashamichi, Daikoku, Cosmo Clock ✨Showa Day Left our hotel at 11 and hadn't yet discovered the wonders of luggage forwarding so we brought all our bags with us on the train to Yokohama! Not too bad though, we got to our hotel a little early but they took our bags as we went and had lunch before the room was ready. Went around Bashamichi (another game location lol) before taking the train to central Yokohama. We had pre-booked the rental cars all before we left to ensure availability but there weren't any problems. This was also my partner's birthday which is something the rental staff realised whilst we were sorting out all the documents 😆. For Daikoku, we didn't need to pass through any ETC gates from Yokohama but it was the first time on the Japanese roads. It was a little nerve-wracking at first as there's very slightly different rules to UK roads but in general driving is fine. We reached Daikoku PA around 20 past 6pm, and it was about 2 hours until police moved everyone along. My partner was in dreamland with the cars that we saw, if you're into the JDM scene at all or just a petrolhead then you'll love it but it is a bit of luck with what you'll see. After we left Daikoku, we went back to our hotel. We'd checked in with them previously that we could keep the car with them as the hotel we had chosen had parking available for an additional cost. We left the car at the hotel then went out for drinks and to see the cosmo clock. Didn't ride it but it was very cool seeing it all lit up over Yokohama. We bar hopped a bit, then went back.
30/04 - Recovery... Not much to say about this day, my partner was fairly hungover so we returned the car to the rental place and then spent the day just chilling at our ryokan hotel and around Yokohama. No drinks this time round as we had a very long trip the next day!!
Nagoya (Road Trip from Yokohama)
01/05 - Expressways, Onshi-Hakone Park, Expressways, Shinshiro, Expressways, Nagoya I'll condense this one a bit otherwise I'll type forever but this was a really fun time. The driving totaled almost 6 hours by the end so it's not for the faint hearted haha. The point was that we'd stop a few times along the way though which is what we did end up doing. We sent our luggage with the forwarding service (to the hotel after Nagoya as we were just staying the one night), then had an early start as we went to the car rental for 8. We chose the same place we rented from for Daikoku and had the same sales rep sorting out any documents so it was a bit quicker although this time we did get a quick explaination on the toll gates. Anyone going on the expressways will need to know how to use them, we were a bit confused the first time but once you've done it a couple times it'll be smooth sailing (and it's such a good system for people with the automatic cards too). We left Yokohama and set our location for Nagoya. We went for about 2 hours before stopping in Odawara for a quick snack and pee break. Pretty overcast day but despite this we still decided to do a stop in a park on the way and went to Onshi-Hakone Park. It was very cool/bit scary going up the winding mountain passes but wow the views are incredible. We spent again probably a couple hours at the park, had some lunch, no view of Fuji but we could see a lot of the other mountains around which are breathtaking in their own rights (: It's right on Lake Ashi so we did get to see the pirate cruise going round. After this break we did another couple hours or so driving before stopping slightly outside of Shinshiro. Something I will say about the expressways is that it is insane how fast people go 😂 We're not about to try anything so it was sticking to the 120 on the signs for us but people just whizz by. Anyway, we stopped at a familymart in this village for a quick break and I know I've said it already but the views are so beautiful. It's green in the UK but it's something else, I kept wondering if it's just viewing through rose tinted glasses/greener on the other side but I don't think that's true at least about those countryside views. It was also one of the reasons we wanted to do the road trip instead of train at least this time round, we could stop in these places and take it in. After our stop there, it was back onto the expressway until we reached Nagoya. It was roughly 6pm when we reached Nagoya, we had intially booked the car for the whole day with return the next morning but they allow early return with Orix so we did that instead before finding our hotel and having some dinner. Not too much time in Nagoya but it was the first time seeing the bullet train which was cool. Nagoya itself has some nice sights, we were thinking about going to Liberty Walk the next day but instead we just decided we'd head to Kyoto once we left the hotel.
Kyoto
02/05 - Shinkansen, Kyoto, Nishiki Market It was a really lovely day and we were taking the shinkansen for the first time. The shinkansen from Nagoya is only 34 minutes but we did end up buying reserved seats as the station was pretty packed. This is probably the main thing we noticed with Golden week, everything else was busy but not insanely so. Nagoya station was a lot busier but otherwise fine. We didn't have JR passes as when I used the online calculator it didn't come out to be worth it for our particular travel so it was full fare for us. The shinkansen itself was good, we would be using it again for Osaka back to Tokyo but due to Nagoya being closer to Kyoto I didn't reeeally think I'd need to book early. It's probably a good idea still lol but it worked out fine for us to book same day despite how busy Nagoya was. Once in Kyoto we took our time walking down to our next hotel. This was another ryokan style so that was nice, we also passed a garden which we noted to go to the next day (Shosei-en Garden). Our luggage had arrived and was waiting for us at the hotel already so we got refreshed then went out for the evening. We went up to Nishiki market then walked back towards our hotel again. Had a sushi train small dinner as we hadn't had any sushi yet and I've also only had a train once before. It might not be the best Kyoto had to offer but wow was it still better than anything I'd had in the UK!! We then spent hours once again in an arcade, if you like games the MaiMaiDX machines really are addictive :')
03/05 - Shosei-en Garden, Higashi Hongan-ji, Tō-ji Temple, Nijō Castle✨Constitution Memorial Day We woke up early, had breakfast at the ryokan, then went straight for the garden. It was a beautiful day once again so plenty of suncream applied. The Shosei-en Garden isn't the biggest but it's so beautiful, they have this pond that looks so still but my partner spotted a turtle and then you start to see more and more. They have some historical buildings around the place, we spent about an hour there before going to the next place. We walked down the road to the next place, this was Higashi Honhan-ji temple. Both locations weren't really that busy to be honest. Seeing this temple was nice but personally I did prefer the gardens. We next went Tō-ji temple. This is one of those locations that are on the 'must-do in Kyoto' but I did like it a lot. The 5 story pagoda was a cool sight. It wasn't so busy although we were going around lunch time so hungry crowds were likely taking a small break (: We spent an unreasonable amount of time just looking at the koi fish in the moat not even in the temple area 🎏 Finally we went to Nijō Castle. This was quite busy although we were one of the latter groups going around as it was nearing the end of the day. Another of the listed must do's but again I would say it's a cool place to see. If you do go, the tour around the main house is interesting and if you decide to climb the walls there's some nice sights of the area around. We finished up this day heading back to the market area and had dinner including a matcha beer. I'm not really a massive matcha person but I was up for trying all the different things, the beer sort of just tasted of normal beer but it looked exactly like a matcha-green coloured guinness.
04/05 - Arishiyama ✨Greenery Day This wasn't really a packed day as we were heading to an airbnb for a couple of nights. We used the luggage forwarding from the ryokan where they were concerned that we wouldn't get our luggage as soon as we wanted due to Golden week. I then let them know we were looking to get it sent for the 6th and they completely relaxed and said that would be perfectly fine 👌 For context if you've not been to Kyoto, the train system is alright but pales compared to Tokyo. Getting to our airbnb wouldn't be too long, about an hour, but as we didn't really have anything planned and only had our small suitcase with us we decided to walk to the next airbnb instead and waste time along the way. This way when we arrived it wouldn't be before check in time and it would keep us out and about. The walk was about 3 hours total although we lengthed it by stopping a few times. There were some celebrations happening due to Greenery day and Children's day being the next day. We stopped to listen to some music, stopped to have a starbucks, then finally we reached out airbnb in Arishiyama. The place was really nice, and it was fun to have a whole place for a few nights instead of a hotel. If you're wanting to, looking at airbnb's is a completely valid option when staying in Japan - you just might get warned before you arrive not to talk or laugh too loudly or the neighbours might complain/call the police 😅
05/05 - Fushimi Inari Shrine ✨Children's Day Initially were going to do both the bamboo/monkey forest and Fushimi Inari but ended up leaving a little later than planned so just committed to only Fushimi Inari. I was expecting fairly large crowds considering the day and the station was..... not great. That said, the station was very small and so although it was crowded we were also out of there fairly quick. This review of Fushimi Inari is going to follow almost everyone's - it was busy at the bottom and as you go up you'll get a lot less people. Even it being Children's day didn't stop us getting moments of just myself and my partner being alone so don't be deterred if the bottom is busy! Beautiful views, we did the full routes going to the top. It was a bit tricky at times but it's not a race, and you'll feel good doing the full thing. We reached the top, were able to partake in the prayers there, then had a great time going back down. There was a little area near the end with a bunch of cats; we turned a corner and saw one and a bunch of people crowding round to take a photo. Maybe only a few steps later you realise there's about 4 more just chilling around the place. It was a cool experience and definitely worth doing at least once if you're there.
Osaka
06/05 - Local train, Dotenbori, Den-Den Town We took a train from our airbnb to Osaka and went via the local train rather than the shinkansen. It was fine, we reached Dotenbori and our hotel was not far from the station. We got there a bit early again but our room was already available and our luggage had arrived too (: After getting refreshed we went out for the afternoon to Den-Den Town. This is Osaka's version of Akihabara, and we spent a lot of time with my partner looking in all the card shops. It was pretty rainy but not really a problem between the Lawson's umbrella and ducking into lots of shops ;) We spent time in an arcade for a while before heading out to Dotenbori market area and the bridges for the evening/night. Yet again another location in the Yakuza games so I had fun pointing out different places like the Mega Don Quijote or the crab restaurant. We had some food and ended up in a drinking place that used a QR code and website for ordering to the table which was dangerously easy to use haha. Had some really tasty sushi there too, I'll try and find the name if anyone is wondering! Took tons of photos there, the rain at night gave the city that classic look reflecting the neon lights everywhere.
07/05 - Kobe day trip We went to Kobe for the day, lots of rain but the main market area is all under cover so that was handy. My partner was looking for a new phone which he found, we also went to one of those places where they grill the food in front of you for dinner. It was great going in a scruffy elevator up to the restaurant and stepping out onto a really beautifully designed restaurant, and it wasn't very busy so we were able to go without reserving beforehand. Kobe itself is cool although we didn't explore too much outside the market areas due to just how hard it was raining, I think it was the heaviest on this day unfortunately.
08/05 - Nara day trip, Todai-ji We went to Nara and although the advice is to go early, we went for more mid-day time. It wasn't crowded at all so that was fortunate. We ended up walking past that famous mochi stall that you see on all the tiktoks of Nara. I wasn't expecting to see the making of the mochi and wasn't going to wait for it either however they started about 2 minutes after we found the stall so we did stay and watch and it was cool to see in person (: We tried the mochi, it's pretty good although for me it was a bit too dry from the powder. Was still tasty!!! Walked through towards the deer park and saw the pagodas around. When we reached the deer park of course we had to get some crackers and feed them. Oh my god they're so pushy!! It was actually so funny to interact with them, one tried to nibble me and we got headbutted a bit when we had the crackers but once you've given them all out then they'll leave you 😆. We sat on a bench for a bit and watched some other poor souls go through the same thing. Saw quite a lot of young fawns too which is cute. We kept walking up to Todai-ji, stopped for an ice cream, then went to the temple to see the huge Buddha statue. It was a good experience to see this temple, but at least for me it wasn't my favourite part of the trip. I know for many others though it's really great to see so don't knock it off your list if you're interested in it! I'm glad I went once but probably won't return. Spent some more time just chilling around Nara and looking at the temples and shrines around the place. We went back to Osaka for around 4pm. Spent the evening in Osaka again, no rain this time! Oh this was about the time I was developing a sore throat, a little bit nerve wracking but fully vaccinated + boosters and have had covid previously so was fairly certain it wasn't that. Even so, my partner was coughing a bit which is the start of the cold we both had for the rest of the trip 😔
09/05 - Osaka Aquarium, Dotenbori I didn't put the aquarium on my plan initially but we had another spare day in Osaka and I do like visiting aquariums + my partner likes penguins a lot and they had a lot there. It was a cool experience, a lot of families as to be expected but it wasn't packed so lots of opportunities to see the animals and fish :) The two whales were very cool, they're so massive. We also got to see their rockhopper penguin conservation area, you could see them sitting on their eggs. I recommend the aquarium to any families planning to be in Osaka, it's pretty easy to get to and the station gives clear directions on where to go to get to the aquarium and the nearby lego park. After the aquarium we went back to Dotenbori and looked around the various book-offs as my partner was looking for screen protectors. If you're interested in any Japanese media I can recommend them too, I found some games in there that were a lot cheaper than you find in the West in much better condition. Our coughs worsened by evening which wasn't great, we weren't doing much more in super crowded areas but it's obviously not good anyway. We were wearing masks everywhere beforehand but it made it more important. We did end up getting some Bron, if you're in Japan and have a cough then I do recommend it but just be aware that it contains codeine. We got some from a place that specifically had a pharmacy section, you bring the box to the cashier and they'll give you the actual bottle from behind the counter. Really really great stuff, much better than anything you can get without a prescription in the UK which was annoying as my cough was subsequently worse for about 5 days once I got back!! It's pretty much gone now though (lasted longer likely due to asthma but it was gone for my partner after a couple days of being back). Overall I really enjoyed Osaka, all the cities we went to were cool but for me Osaka was my favourite :)
Tokyo
10/05 - Shinkansen, Airbnb We left Osaka for Tokyo and took the Shinkansen back. We did splash out a bit and took the green car with seats on the Fuji side. I fell asleep for most of the trip but woke in time to see Fuji for the roughly 6-7 minutes it was viewable for. It was my only time to see Fuji due to the weather being almost clear that day aside from a single cloud going right across the mountain. It didn't block the peak though so I don't feel too robbed 😆. If/when we visit Japan again I would like to see it again closer but it was still a great sight. Once we reached Shinagawa station, we switched to the local train to head to our airbnb in Shinjuku once again (although closer to Shibuya this time whereas we were more North before). We were staying in a pretty close knit residential area but did a bit of a hello to the neighbours which was nice. We had done the luggage forwarding again but had set it to come the next day so we would be the people available for receiving it. Spent the time around the airbnb and also tried having an uber eats delivered (which worked great lol).
11/05 - Shibuya, Shinjuku We spent most of this day around Shibuya as we wanted a few souvenirs for family and also hadn't visited Shibuya properly. Went to the crossing, then spent time mainly shopping and going around one of the Donkis. Pretty rainy again but not a problem for a shopping day.
12/05 - RX-7 Day Trip (Lake Hinuma, Ibaraki Flower Park), Kabukicho We used Omoshiro Rent-a-car for the RX-7 (for those interested, here's the car -
https://i.imgur.com/HRX4DYy.png ) and they were great. We had it pre-booked again before we arrived in Japan as it's a pretty sought after car to rent. Bit banged up but nothing major, and we had it booked for I think 8 hours? We did return it a little early as we didn't really have anything else to do and didn't want to be late with a return as the shop closed at the time we'd be returning it. A funny part of the terms you agree to is no Initial D style driving. For the trip itself, we didn't have anything major planned so I made a makeshift plan to just go a bit out of Tokyo and visit somewhere different. I found this lake on maps that'd be not too far, didn't realise until we were there that it's less a lake for sights and more for fishing 😅. No worries though, as the main reason was to get some driving in and enjoy having the car (which was achieved!). Got some snacks from a 7/11 then went off. We had a lot of time left so we drove to Ibaraki flower park, yet another quick find from scrolling around Google Maps. It was a very beautiful park, they have a rose market there as well as selling some fresh produce. It's a small charge to go in the park but it's worth it for the hour or more you might spend there and will go towards the park maintenance. Also being the middle of Spring of course it's going to be beautiful with all the new blooms (: We spent time there admiring the countryside and being sad about going back home the next day. We went back to the rental place afterwards, also during this drive was the time where we were finding it so funny how we were sticking to the speed limits in this beautiful car and being overtaken by massive trucks going so much faster. We did have a moment that was like from a movie though, we entered the expressway after the tolls and as we were pulling in an older Honda NSX was being driven next to us. The guy driving looked over and gave us a nod with a straight face before pulling ahead a little so we could be behind him. We ruined that movie mood by both being so excited by how cool the moment was but hey it's one of those things that won't be forgotten at least!! He zoomed off a few minutes later but we weren't risking anything to keep pace ahaha. We returned the car then went back to Shinjuku for our final evening in Japan. We went back to Kabukicho and I was able to see the arch in red :') Took photos of the karaoke place that's in the games, would've gone in but my throat was killing!! So we just stuck to being outside. We went back to the area around our airbnb, had our last dinner there then went and packed up ready to go home.
13/05 - Home :') Our flight was leaving a little before 9am so we were leaving the airbnb for 5ish. Early start but as we'd gotten packed up it wasn't too bad of a walk to the station. Grabbed our train, it was fairly early on one of the lines that goes direct to the station so we were able to get on with ease. The train was rammed by the time we reached the station. No problems getting through the airport, got to our gate and then flew home.
Final Notes
I had such a good time in Japan, I loved being there and hope to return within the next few years if life permits!! We definitely missed some of those 'must-do's' such as Osaka Castle, any of the theme parks, Arishiyama Monkey Park, actually doing Karaoke, and some of the food options due to my own anxieties walking into places lol. That said, I don't regret the things we did end up doing and it just means I'll have to fit some of those into my next trip 😉. Although my partner would like to visit more Northern areas like Hokkaido or Sendai so we'll see!
We didn't have probably as much packed into each day as could've been but for me this was perfect and a great time for my first time. If you managed to read all this then thank you very much, and please let me know if you have any questions about the trip!! I'll be happy to answer. Thanks for reading!

2023.05.28 17:06 beepbeepchoochoo My thoughts on food/restaurants from our recent trip!
Our goals for a beach vacation include ocean time, beach naps and alllllll the food. We stayed at Crescent Beach but hopped all over the place for activities, food etc. Figured I'd share the places we ate and my thoughts :)
Columbia restaurant - I've been eyeing this place every time I've visited, so I finally made a reservation and tried it out. It's a gorgeous restaurant and I was in awe of the building. The service was great. Food.. not so much. I had the Cuban sandwich, gazpacho and a mojito. The sandwich and gazpacho were both very bland, and the sandwich was boneeee dry. The mojito was tasty but not mind blowing. Glad I got to see the inside, but I wouldn't come here for a meal again. Maybe I would for a mojito though! Also ugh the area we were seated in had a distinct urine smell, and the bathrooms reeked of urine too
Black Molly's - we had a good meal here a few years ago so we tried it again. It's cheaper than most of the other places in/around St Augustine. I got mahi mahi and it was overcooked. My partner got a fresh catch (idk remember what) and it was also overcooked. Edible, but wouldn't eat here again.
Mango Mangos- I like the vibe here. The service was good. Seemed like a bunch of locals which is usually a good sign! We got the coconut shrimp to start which was okay, nothing special. The meal was fine. But the key lime pie!!!!! It was the best I've ever had
Caps on the water - the views here are amazing, and it made for a nice romantic dinner. The service was top knotch. The she crab soup was delicious, maybe the best thing I ate the whole trip. I could eat that soup every day. I had salmon which was good & my partner had the sesame seared tuna. He raved about it and says it's the best tuna he's ever had. We ended with the key lime dessert and it was good. We started too strong with Mango mangos key lime pie and everything else paled in comparison haha
Violas- we didn't make a reservation and definitely should have! We had a long wait on a Wednesday night, but we enjoyed it here so much in the past that we decided to wait it out. Good service & the owner bops around to all the tables which I thought was cool. The food is good and the portions are massive (which now that I think about it, almost everywhere we ate had big portions). We'll continue to eat here when we visit in the future but we'll be making a reservation. We took key lime pie & fried cheesecake back to our condo and they were both good
Llama restaurant- I was excited to try this place out and made reservations 2ish months in advance. They nailed the decor. Otherwise, I felt it was way too cramped and LOUD. It was hard to have a conversation and I couldn't hear our waitress. We started with ceviche- it was my first time having it!- and I enjoyed it. I had the surf&turf dish and my partner had the lamb. The lamb was overcooked. My meal was okay, but had a lot going on and I couldn't eat very much. I ended up eating the noodles when I went back to the condo, but the rest I just picked at and ultimately ended up wasting it. Our waitress didn't check back with us to see how the food was, and we decided to leave without getting dessert because I just didn't want to stay there longer than necessary. It has a pretentious vibe to it imo
Sunset Grille- we went here a handful of times on our last trip so we knew what to expect. We had the mahi/salmon spread - something I normally wouldn't order - and it was delicious, especially with their datil sauce. I ended up buying a bottle to take home. I had the lobster pasta which was too heavy for me (I ate a few bites before I boxed it up for later) but I liked the flavor. And of course got the key lime pie! It's oddly pricey here, I was surprised by our bill
Kookaburra - we got coffee here everyday. Love the vibe and the staff. Wish I could take this place home with me!
I got lots of recommendations from this subreddit, so thank you all for the recs & for sharing your beautiful city :)

2023.05.28 16:32 Laoch_King Am I overreacting? Feel alone against my boyfriend's homophobic parents!
Me and my boyfriend have been together for 2 years now. I love him and our relationship itself is great, but his family could be better. I suppose this more of a rant but also a way for me to not feel so alone and find someone in the community who can relate. Most of my friends are straight or the few that are queer haven’t really had many homophobic experiences.
His siblings are great. I've met them all and they were so nice. However, his father is extremely homophobic to the point that he's told my boyfriend he'll never accept him, and my name is not allowed to be mentioned in their home. My boyfriend has told me his mother is more accepting of him which makes me happy for him, but I feel that she may still be uncomfortable with him having a boyfriend as when I met her the first time she was nice albeit awkward and then at his college graduation last year she was horrible to me.
First I met his mother and sister who came to the city we were studying in for a night. His sister was nice and his mother was civil with me however, I could tell she was a little awkward. Possibly trying to still wrap her head around her sons first boyfriend. I didn’t hold this against her as my mother struggled when I came out too. I met one of his brothers and his girlfriend the week before his graduation and was really nice and even pulled me aside at one point to explain to me that his dad might not talk to me at the graduation and he just wanted me to be prepared which I really appreciated.
Eventually then late last year me and my boyfriend graduated from university. Our graduations were 2 months apart. He told me that for his I could come to the ceremony and that they were having a dinner afterwards but it was only for “family” because his father said he wouldn’t come if I was there although the siblings brought their partners. Then I could come out later that night with him and his friends. I understood and helped him book the dinner. The week before I reminded him we attend different universities so I wouldn’t know where to go on the day and he said we’d figure it out on the day.
On the day I arrived at the university and couldn’t get a response from him so had to wait at the bus stop for half an hour until one of his friends passed and helped me find the place. Once there his mother said hi but was more awkward than before. His dad was there but completely ignored me and didn’t acknowledge me but honestly that didn’t bother me. I eventually had to sit in a completely different room for the ceremony where they were livestreaming it because they only had a certain amount of seats per family. The ceremony went over by about 2 hours and they couldn’t use their phones inside so they were going to miss their dinner. Even though I wasn’t invited I knew they were stressing so I called the restaurant and fixed it all for them. Once they were all out of the ceremony I told him and his mother that it was okay and I called the restaurant. His mother glared at me and then turned to him and said “it’s okay your sister sorted it” and walked away from me. I had met his other 2 sibling but met his oldest brother and wife at this moment. They were lovely and his brothers wife offered to take photos of us away from the family because she knew I wouldn’t be allowed to be anywhere near them for family photos. When she was taking the family photos they wanted her in them too but couldn’t figure out who to take them so I volunteered. Again his mother glared at me for even speaking up and his dad seemed confused. Afterwards they went off to their dinner, I went home and met my boyfriend later that night to go out.
The next day I was trying to wrap my head around everything and had an epiphany, bear in mind I studied social work so I’m pretty confident in my ability to read people. I was a little hurt by the way I was treated by both my boyfriend for his lack of thought towards me and his mother’s hostility. I hadn’t expected it and didn’t even mind his father’s behaviour. Then I realised his mother and siblings were extremely anxious when I spoke up around his father and his father barely glanced at me as if he didn’t even understand who I was. I expected him to be the one glaring at me not the other way around. So when my boyfriend asked me how I felt after it I said “not great” and he started apologising for his dad but I stopped him. I said “B/N stop, I had no problem with your dad yesterday. Of course he didn’t acknowledge me….. because he didn’t even know I was there!”. I had put 2 and 2 together with my Scooby Doo detective skills and realised even though my boyfriend told me his dad said he wouldn’t come to the graduation dinner if I was there that he hadn’t been truthful with me. They had never even told him about me going overall. He was a bit surprised that I figured everything out. I told him that I would have understood if he just told me but I hated being lied to and left in the dark. Then I told him it was his mother who was worse to me to which he said he didn’t notice anything like that. Now we rarely ever fight, and I mean rarely but this was probably the first big fight we had as I was really hurt and hate dishonesty. I told him after this you better come to my graduation and know my family will be kinder to you. My family are a lot more accepting now and love my boyfriend to the point they’ve said that no matter what his family say or do he has them to accept him.
So he had also applied to teach English abroad and was leaving a couple weeks after his graduation but said he’d be back for my graduation. When it came to mine he told me the English teaching school wouldn’t give him the few days off for my graduation. I understood it wasn’t his fault and he did book a weekend away for us which I appreciated. However, it still hurt that I had to go through all that at his graduation only for him to not come to mine. On that weekend away he tricked me into ordering a fancy dessert at a restaurant for him that he actually wanted to get for me which was a cute gesture. I remember slamming my cutlery on the plate because of him lying. It was so stupid and small but I think it was a build up of anger for me since the graduation and now he makes jokes to his friends about it all the time making me sound crazy even though I know in my head it wasn’t about a silly dessert but about the graduation as this was the first time I’d seen him since. Unfortunately, I can’t say that in front of his friends.
So bringing it all to now, my boyfriends oldest brother and wife just had a baby boy and my boyfriend is the godfather. Surprisingly to me, his older brother and wife invited me to the christening which is in a couple of weeks when my boyfriend returns back home from teaching abroad. Well…. I WAS invited. My boyfriend just told me a few days ago now his brother and wife have said they’re not sure where I will sleep that night because there’s no room in their house and I couldn’t stay in my boyfriends room at the family house because their parents would be uncomfortable. I asked him if his parents know this time and he said his mother does but she’s okay with it. I know better. I bet once his mother found out she convinced them it’s better if I don’t go.
I wasn’t going to go anyway because I knew his family would be drinking and possibly turn on me that night. Now I would have dealt with that because those motherfudgers don’t pay my rent and at the end of the day I have a great family and friends that accept me. The reason I wasn’t going to go was because I don’t want that little baby to ask mom and dad about his christening in a few years only to hear that all anyone remembers is his uncle’s boyfriend being attacked. What gets me this time is the same thing as the last time, the lies and deceit. Little do they know I can read them like a book and know what they’re all doing. I feel worse for my boyfriend as even though I have to go through this I can always go back to a loving family, but this is his family and it hurts me that he’s not accepted because they are missing out on such an incredible person. It makes me sad they don’t get to celebrate how amazing their son is. However, I sometimes wish my boyfriend would also understand my side. When I told him I was surprised his mother “was okay with me going to the christening” I told him I didn’t believe him going off the graduation to which he tried to make up excuses. I know it’s his family but also just acknowledge that they are treating me like shit rather than completely invalidating what I’ve dealt with.
Anyway I’m buying that little baby an amazing christening gift because it’s not his fault or the brothers and also a little way to spite the parents. I don’t know I just had to get this off my chest as I feel like my friends won’t understand. I know I'm holding a grudge against my boyfriend and his parents and am trying to move past it. I need some of my brothers, sisters, and siblings in the community who can relate because I kind of feel like I’m on my own going through this. Any advice or understanding would be greatly appreciated.

2023.05.28 16:26 siyans I dont understand the concept of money.
if you are lazy here the TLDR:
for me the concept of making money and just the idea of the "economy" just make no sense, its all boils down to what people think, speculation and based on literally no real "logic" sense or there no real way to "understand" it. You have to take advantage of someone somewhere, either because they are unaware, because they are "stupid" or "dumb", either financially or just their brain power, or the person has so much she doesnt care enough.
Its been a while and I have been trying very hard to understand the idea of money, but no matter how hard I try I feel like I just don't understand. The concept of "making money" is greatly "scummy" and "scammy", all this idea is all about how well you can "scam" someone to pay way way to much for something that has such a small value. A small example is when you see restaurant or such selling you a bottle of water at 3$+, to me its just purely scummy that the way for you to make money is to push a customer to pay literally 10-15X the price of something they could have got by themselves for way less. (a bottle of water is about 0.25$-0,30$ per bottle if you buy a box), I just dont get how morally inert you could feel by doing such gouging.
Also there part of life where a person, by doing literally nothing can get more money. If you look at any kind of investment, you put money in the bank, in stock market, foreign exchange or bitcoin (and such) and with some time, you get more money. How is that logical, you can literally make money from thin air, I thought that the way to make money was: you had to bring some kind increased value of a product or service, but here, nothing at all.
then you start looking at just city near you, then you start going deeper and deeper and look at other country, at that point, those idea are literally thrown out of the window, where the same object with similar popularity can highly highly differ in price for no good reason other than where it is geographically, huh? Again, same similar example of the bottle of water, just in my district you can find them at around 1.50$ but the moment you start going more downtown, 2$, 2.50$, but how? why? this make no sense, its the same object.
another point is the problem of no real ceiling, the more money people make, the more the thing cost, someone having a 30k annual salary will eventually be push down way more than someone getting 75k, I see that more and more, back then in 2010 my salary was 20k and was living not that badly, now my salary is nearly 30k but I feel like I can spend for less stuff. A richer person have way more and easy possibility of making more money than someone with less. With just 1 millions you can just put it in the bank at 5-6% and you get nearly more than an average annual salary. Thus making the rich richer and make the poor have harder time to push themselves up.
I could go on and on and on and be so extremely sentimental and passionate on how all this idea is just non sense and is all about profiting from someone at some point and personally, morally speaking, I dont why I should profit from someone being unaware or "dump" to pay 3$+ for a bottle a water when the person could have gotten it for less than a 1$...
So I just dont see why I should participate in a such morally wrong system where there no rules and people cna do whatever they want as long they have money...

2023.05.28 16:24 SharubinD3 Authentic Arabic restaurant experience in Halifax
Hello guys, I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia and have been thinking about starting a business startup in the field of restaurant business. I have been in the city for almost 2 years and have found very difficult in finding an authentic Arabic restaurant which gives that real Arabic vibe with food taste and the restaurant atmosphere. Most of the Arabic restaurants are run like a fast-food chain which focuses on delivering food quicker in the city. Since few months I had a business plan or idea of starting an Arabic based restaurant in the city of Halifax.
Since my primary focus is on giving the authentic experience to the guest it is important to have a reasonably bigger area where the restaurant should be started (at least 1500 to 2000 sq ft). There multiple marketing mix or encouraging factors for the potential customer to come and enjoy the restaurants experience are being considered. Since most of the other Arabic restaurants are run like fast food chain and restaurant will be planning to go in the far extreme direction. Firstly, the most important thing or key factor for the success of any restaurant is the taste and quality of the food and therefore, the first priority will be in finding a very experienced Arabic style chef and getting them hired. Once that side of the restaurant is cleared then all the primary focus will be on creating the authentic setup within the restaurant. I plan to give a lot of emphasis in the design and structure within the restaurant. Such as creating "Majlis" a separate area where guest could sit and enjoy while they wait for their food with free access to sheesha which is an Arabic origin flavored tobacco pipe with long flexible tube. There is a lot of interest withing the Arabic community and also the local residents in trying this sheesha which again adds to the authentic Arabic experience. A great combination of Arabic painting and suviniours will be placed within the restaurant also with an option to buy them for those who are interested. This can act as an additional form of income on top of the restaurant income. A great deal emphasis will be placed on the lighting and how the facility smells that is creating an authentic "Oudh" smell. Oudh is very musky and sensual smell which closely associated with Arabic culture. Also, a great collection of Arabic sweats like Baklawas and others unique Arabian sweats and drinks (Gava tea) will be made available in the premises.
The main target market of the restaurant is the huge Asian and African Arabic community that lives in Halifax. Also, the local residents of the city along with the travelers who visited these Arabic countries in the past who wants to re-experience it again will be targeted.
The restaurant is planned to be named "Arabian Nights" and I strongly believe that this can be made successful if right efforts are taken. Also, having the presence of strong high income Arabic communities within the city, who normally support something local from their roots will add to the chance of this restaurant being successful if it's done right. The location of the restaurant according to my plan is to be somewhere in Bedford area as there is a strong presence of Arabic communities and families and on top of that leasing space for the restaurant will be relatively cheaper than starting in a busy Halifax downtown area.

2023.05.28 16:00 joe12south Anybody using new ReMarkable keyboard to write outside?
I really like writing on my deck, restaurant patio, etc. Er, I would if that sun I'm seeking didn't also make it so damn difficult to see a laptop screen.
A writing device with an e-ink display seems like a good solution. I'm comfortable writing in Fountain so just about any writing software should be fine. After a little research, the Kindle Scribe is out. That leaves the ReMarkable 2 and a few Chinese Android tablets.
Anyone have any experience with such a set-up?

2023.05.28 15:07 SwiftChallengerNomad The Sims 2 City Building Challenge: A Work In Progress
I've played a couple of city building challenges and not managed to complete them, either through lack of interest or the difficulty being too high, so I thought I'd have a crack at playing/writing my own variation.
The general rules were that I could only buy the basics from the catalog, anything else had to come from a Sim-owned business, that professions and rewards would only become available when it made sense for my little town's economy, and that I wanted to build up to experiencing everything The Sims 2 and its expansion packs has to offer. I'd play each household for a Sim week to keep all the playable Sims' ages consistent, and I'd make it a little more difficult by playing only the starting neighbourhood families and whoever they marry/move in, no CAS Sims.
Initially there wouldn't be a food store or grocery deliveries so all the Sims have to farm, then whoever can afford a lot first could sell farmed goods. At Business Level 5, wholesale freezers are unlocked and at 10 the Grocery Delivery interaction is unlocked. Other businesses have similar rules.
Here's the story so far (I really should've been making notes from the start):
The Gavigans moved into 1 Beach Crescent, Driftwood, where Nathan took a job as an Adventurer and Mary stayed home to raise Isaiah, write a newspaper column about cleaning, and grow produce. They had a daughter, Amelia. Isaiah is now an adult with the Romance aspiration and wants to WooHoo with 20 different Sims. He owns a small fresh flower shop in the business district. Amelia is a teen with the Fortune aspiration who wants to become a World-Class Ballet Dancer
The Picaso family moved into 2 Beach Crescent, Driftwood, where Jessica briefly worked in Education before being fired for poor performance. Matthew tended the family vegetable plot and wrote a Mechanical column for the local newspaper. They had three children: Alina, James, and Linda. James and Linda are twins. Alina has just grown into an adult with the Family aspiration and wants to Raise 20 Puppies or Kittens. She recently bought a business in the business district where she sells her paintings. James is a Knowledge Sim and wants to become a Criminal Mastermind. Linda is a Romance Sim and wants to become a Celebrity Chef.
The Traveller family moved into 3 Beach Crescent, Driftwood where they farmed. Tina writes editorial pieces for the local newspaper, and Trent has a cooking column. Trent and Trisha had Sabrina together, and then Trent was abducted by aliens and had Rebecca and Zack with Pollintation Technician. Tina is an adult with the Knowledge aspiration and wants to become a Criminal Mastermind, she owns a toy shop in the business district where she started off selling handmade toys but now also sells items from the catalog. Sabrina is a teen with the Pleasure aspiration who wants to become a Celebrity Chef. Rebecca and Zack are children.
The Ramaswami family moved into 4 Beach Crescent, Driftwood, where they farmed and wrote for the local newspaper. Sanjay wrote short stories for the paper, while Priya wrote about styles and fashions. They had two daughters, Cadence and Annabeth, who have taken over their parents' columns in the newspaper. Sanjay got a job in the Science career and is currently a Theorist. His next promotion will make him a Mad Scientist, opening up the Medical career path. Cadence is a Pleasure teen with the desire to become a Game Designer. Since the Gamer career won't be unlocked until someone makes a level 5 Arcade, she's already investing in arcade games for when she leaves school so that she can start her own business. Annabeth is a Fortune teen with the aspiration to become a Prestidigitator.
The Ottomas family moved into 5 Beach Crescent, Driftwood. Grandma Dora supported Peter and Samantha by looking after the children while they worked as teachers. Samantha eventually became the Education Minister, opening up the possibility of going to University for future generations of Sims. Dora is now buried at the Beach Crescent Graveyard after dying of old age.
David finished school and got a job in Oceanography, eventually leaving home and marrying Michelle Tse. They now live at 1, Sand Road and have twin babies Rhett and Link. David reached the top of the Oceanography career, unlocking it for future Sims. He's a Popularity Sim and wants to become a Rock God, something he's unlikely to achieve because there's still no music school. Michelle is a Fortune Sim who wants to become a Business Tycoon. Unfortunately, this career track won't be available until there's a successful business of each of the types required for the challenge: a grocery store, a restaurant, an art gallery, a music school, a dance school, a gym, a disco or nightclub, and an arcade. Michelle currently works as an employee at Isaiah Gavigan's flower shop.
Sharla married Gavin Newson.
Tommy still lives at home with his parents. He's a Pleasure Sim and aspires to become a Celebrity Chef. He started by founding Zippy Eats, a fast food restaurant in the business district. When that reached Level 5, he was able to find a job in the Culinary career track. He's currently a Sous Chef.
Keri and Ray moved to University
The Goodie family moved into 6 Beach Crescent, Driftwood, and adopted the Newson family. After the death of the Goodies from old age and the other siblings moving out, Georgia Newson inherited the large house. She's a Romance Sim with the aspiration to become a Hall of Famer. She owns a gym in the business district and is waiting for it to reach Level 5 before she can enter the Athletic career now that the town's population is high enough to have its own sports team. Herbert and Faith are buried at Beach Crescent Graveyard.
Gavin Newson moved to 1 Beach Lane, where he started growing produce to sell in the Farmer's Market in the business district. He married Sharla Ottomas. Gavin has the Fortune aspiration and wants to become a Business Tycoon. Sharla has the Pleasure aspiration and wants to have 50 Dream Dates, an aspiration she'll have to reconsider now that she's married.
Ginger Newson initially moved with Gavin to 1 Beach Lane, and made toys for him to sell alongside the produce at his grocery store. Eventually, she moved out and started a business selling electronics. She married Weylon Menon and they've had their first child, Norman. Ginger has the Family aspiration and wants to reach her Golden Anniversary. Waylon has a Fortune aspiration and wants to become a Business Tycoon.
Gallagher moved to 5 Beach Lane, opened a fast food restaurant in the business district, and married Ivy Copur. Gallagher's business reached Level 5, allowing him to enter the Culinary career track, he is currently a Restauranteur and wants to be a Celebrity Chef to complete his Romance aspiration. Ivy is a Knowledge Sim who wants to become a Space Pirate, she's nearly there, currently a Dread Pirate. They are preparing for their first baby together.
Garrett moved to 4 Beach Lane and married Sophie. Once the town's population was high enough, Garrett went into the Politics career despite his lifelong dream to become a ballet dancer, hopefully he can still satisfy his Fortune aspirations. Sophie, also a Fortune Sim, has an aspiration to become a Criminal Mastermind. She's currently working as a Con Artist.
Gabriella moved to 6 Beach Lane and founded a dance school in the business district. The dance school is currently Level 5, meaning that one Sim can enter the Dance career. She's a Fortune Sim who wants to become The Law. She's currently working as a Law Firm Receptionist. She's engaged to Orlando Centowski, who has moved in. Orlando is a Family Sim who wants to Marry Off 6 Children.
When the University opened up, the city gained some new playable families:
The Sharpe family: Roxy and Edwin and Roxy's boyfriend Jonah Powers. Since Roxy and Jonah both wanted to pursue more romantic relationships elsewhere, they moved into separate dorms. After getting a bit of life experience, Jonah Powers changed his Romance aspiration from having 20 simultaneous lovers to the Fortune aspiration of becoming a Space Pirate. He now lives at 2, Sand Road with a mortgage to pay off.
Edwin graduated and moved into 3, Sand Road, with a mortgage to pay off. He is a Knowledge Sim who wants to become Head of SCIA. During his studies, he allowed his romantic relationship with Delilah O'Feefe to wane.
Roxy graduated and moved into 4, Sand Road, with a mortgage to pay off. She is a Romance Sim with the lifetime aspiration to WooHoo with 20 different Sims. During her time at University she managed to WooHoo with Kennedy Cox, Victor Copur, Peter Sims, Ocean Huerta, Cristopher Roennigke, Jason Centowski, Jeremy Bui, Luc Grove and Jonah Powers, so she's nearly halfway there!
When Edwin Sharpe decided to focus on his studies, Delilah O'Feefe began a relationship with Mitch Indie. She graduated from University and moved into 5, Sand Road with a mortgage to pay off. She has a Knowledge aspiration to become a Media Magnate, a career path that's open to her since there are correspondents writing for the paper in each of the 7 topics and they all have the maximum skill in their chosen subject. She's waiting for Mitch to graduate.
The Friends household Mitch Indie and Max Flexor.
The Students household Emily Lee and Tom Freshe.
Marla Biggs
The First Year household.

2023.05.28 15:00 funkygoby A bike for life. Ti, belt and touring geometry?
Hello,
I am at a period in my life where I would like to treat me a new bike. I mean a bike bought new, suited to my needs. Some advice would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post but I though giving more information could help narrow down some prefect setup.
I live in Europe. Nothing against US, but shipping and import taxes are a concern. Although I spend most of my time commuting, I am not a roadie. Road geometry is not my thing. Most of my bikes have been rigid MTB with some hardtails (80-120mm) here and there. I think "all terrainroad bike" describe them quite well ? I like to go sweat and push pedals sometimes (even for commuting). Commutehybrid are a bit too far on the comfort side of the spectrum to me.
My current bike is this model
https://image.biked.com/351240-superlarge_default/vtt-26-decathlon-rockrider-600-entierement-restaure.jpg As a side note "VTT" in France is used to talk about "MTB" bikes but "VTT" literally translates to ATB. Nowadays those bikes are usually commuters, or even used as tourers (rack mounts on the frame). I am posting in this subreddit because many touring bikes seem to share similar geometry with my current bike. Also touring is something I would like to do someday and the bike should be able to be used this way.
On to the point!
- Frame material: Titanium?
- Commuting is wet here, and salty in winter. My 23 years old frame is holding well but I have not look inside the BB for a while ... I like titanium, it is beautiful and does not rust. I would like to avoid steel (even top-grade ones) as I have heard that rust treatment is not the same anymore as it used to be. Regulations might be forbidding the use of toxic (but more efficient) products? Having to take the seatpost out, and put the bike upside down during the night is a no-go. I can afford titanium but it has to make sense.
- Discussing the ride feel/quality does not really interest me. A diamond frame is a diamond frame. I would like to throw the bike into a car's trunk sometimes (along other bikes) and I am concerned about carbon being to dent/scratch prone?
- Touring with titanium could be theft-prone. Although I guess thieves are going to steal everything they can on a steel touring bike, do thieves recognize a titanium bike when they see it and go crazy?
- Transmission: belt rohloff?
- I love to wrench my bike but it seems I have to change chain more than once a year. I also do not have a water hose/garden where I live, so some rug is all I have for chain maintenance. Cassette and chainrings are also usually already worn out when I decide it is time for chain change ... Chainring change involves whole crankset swap because I cannot find a modern crankset with bolt-on chainrings compatible with my bottom bracket (squared tappered), 3 chainrings, for 8-speed chain. A belt + internal hub seem to be a solution to the sand+grim from the road. Any experience with that?
- The frame should then be splittable. I do not want to take the risk of the VEER split belt only to find out later that I should have gone with the splittable frame option.
- Cockpit: flat bar or equivalent?
- First I wanted drop bars, because of the hoods that give a more physiologic position, right? Also because of the multiple positions advertised. Now I want flat bars, hear me out. I have ridden drop bar for 2 hours (on a road, then a gravel bike). I like the hoods but the brakes lever do not produce a strong enough output to give me confidence (yes it was hydro disc, still not happy); Drops are a good position for emergency breaking but I do not like the position (do not care for aero etc ...) maybe drops on tourers are a different story ? Then you can alternate with the flat portion indeed. Regarding flat bars, I feel that the default position is strong, good for control, braking power while you are close to car traffic. Then I usually add bar ends similar to ergon g4 that offers the new position (this is from my MTB days where steep climbs were better done with bar ends). The bar ends position are similar to hoods in a way but your arms are spread out, I admit. The solution could be the "crazy bar" from "velo orange" https://velo-orange.com/collections/alt-bars/products/crazy-bars-2. With this + end bars I would have 2 hood-like positions + 2 trad position. Am I missing something? Can flat bar work for long rides?
- The frame should be designed either for drop vs flat but not both right? Is it reasonnable to expect a given frame to be compatible with both ? In this case, do you have to also adapt the fork in order to keep a decent handling ?
Where I am at: A titanium splittable frame, with rolhoff belt drive and flat bars. Would be a do-it all. Commute, capable of light offroad and touring. I have found several options:
Nua, Pilot and Carver have sliding drop-out. This means I could change the transmission to a derailleur someday if I want? All of those (except Carver) are in EU.
It seems a lot of the price is due to "customization" of the frame which I do not care about. Although I would like to choose frame size (S, M, L), the fitting would be done at home with saddle, stem, cranks, handle bar. I am pretty sure that all those frames are made in China (I have no issue with that). Should I just call Walty, Tiris and get the most suitable frame?
I have no issue building my bike so I could order the frame from China then all the parts from Europe. I am a bit afraid of messing something up and ending up with incompatible parts (BB vs crank; frame vs drops vs rohloff hub; brake rotor vs calliper vs mounts; etc ...) Any experience with building a chinese tourer ?
If you have read this long thanks for your dedication and I hope to hear from you.
Best,

2023.05.28 14:34 backcountryhomes Missing misdemeanor Larceny charge
When I was younger (2007), I had two incidents of felony embezzlement. One was at a big box electronics store, the other was at a restaurant. Both were reduced to misdemeanor larceny. I am job hunting and had an offer rescinded due to the misdemeanor from the restaurant. The other conviction never showed up on the background check (both incidents were in the same county but different cities).
I am processing an expungement for the restaurant larceny but the other larceny conviction from the big box electronics store is no where to be found by either lawyer I’ve contacted for help with the expungements, when they search through court records. County mugshots only return the one (restaurant) and two employment background checks over a span of 8 years only retuned the same larceny conviction from the restaurant. Are there any reasons a conviction wouldn’t show up? My only guess is jurisdictional. The city the arrest happened in is split into two counties but I was sentenced in the same county that the background checks are being done for. Convictions don’t just disappear, right? It was so long ago I can’t even remember the lawyers name and can’t find any arrest records.
