https://i.imgur.com/yDs4uOm.jpg I’ve seen an explosion in the number of massive vehicles like Escalades, suburbans and f150/250s downtown, and almost been hit by them on several occasions. These are much more dangerous than standard cars because of their very low driver-visibility (see e.g., https://mltshp-cdn.com/1OZUS which compares visibility of current trucks to tanks), flat grill which means that a pedestrian is 2-3x more likely to die in a collision with one of these vehicles as opposed to a standard car, and their high weight 6000lb+ which is also very hard on our roads and thus are expensive on taxpayers. Hi there,
I got into a minor collision with a city bus today, and the driver claimed I merged into his lane, I'm obviously claiming the opposite. I called 999 and the officer they sent filed the accident with me being the driver at fault. I objected to this because there were no witnesses around and it was the bus driver's word against mine and my wife's. He told me I can object through the SAAED app which I did, asking them to check the camera footage. (it happened at a busy Downtown intersection so there is definitely a traffic camera there). The guy they sent was heavily supporting the bus driver (suggesting that I should just claim that I'm at fault in the objection that I sent in the app which makes No sense) against my side of the story so I'm worried that they'll do the same with my objection and I'll have to pay 500 AED for an accident I didn't cause, my insurance will cost more next year and I'll also have to pay for fixing the chassis of my car. (it's a minor bump but still)
Do you have any advice for this kind of situation? Do you think they'll actually take my objection seriously and check the camera footage?

Context: I am a half black half white male with a legally blind soon to be fiancé, so not fitting in is not a new feeling to me/us. We purchased our property about 8 years ago and have never been happier. When I first moved here, alone to remodel the place, I noticed I was relatively the only blackish male around town. I've even had 'N' word yelled at me and my friends while walking, nothing new and to be honest a little expected as we come from a more diverse city life to what we view as more rural. Now for the good part, is it just me or is Santa Rosa becoming more diverse!? I went from maybe seeing another face like the ones I grew up around maybe once a week to now everyday. It makes me feel safer, more included and less of a 'target'. It makes me feel more like an American. I love diversity across race, religion, gender and so many other ways us beautiful humans have been born and shaped ourselves.
P.s I have had waaay more positive and uplifting experiences here than negative ones, this county is a dream and I think we will always own property here somewhere. SonomaStrong

Last night (26 May 2023), at around 21:20, I was in the downtown intersection of Wyndham St N and Macdonell, on my motorbike (blue motor scooter), with my mother as a passenger. I was waiting to turn left when a white pickup truck struck us from behind, hitting my mother's shoulder and foot, damaging the passenger footrest on my vehicle. The white truck stopped for a brief moment before taking off towards the train station.
We were really lucky to have a man in a red Audi chase after him and get his license plate number, as well as noticing the driver was intoxicated. A bartender called the police for us, and the officers informed us that the truck was stolen and had hit multiple vehicles before us. The driver is still unknown.
The licence plate of the white Chevrolet pickup is BV17665. If you see this vehicle or plates, please report it, as there are a few people involved in collisions with this driver and vehicle. If you have any additional information please call the Guelph Police.

I was walking in downtown Toronto for an hour on Friday night past midnight. As expected, the people and traffic centered around bars/nightclubs/parties. Traffic in the neighborhood was moderate, but pockets near bars like King & Portland were jammed.
While waiting to walk across the major intersection of Queen & Spadina, about a second before my light turned green, a car on my right charged up to the intersection and turned right at an unreasonable speed; he did not observed/yield/stop. I was among people waiting at the crosswalk, and there was no excuse like the streets being empty at this hour. I avoided injury because I held back from walking until I was sure the way was clear. Had I not been so paranoid and just obeyed my green light, I would've gotten hit.
On a quieter street, I saw a car pull out of a driveway in front of me. He stopped short of the sidewalk and I stopped short of the driveway. I stared at him and realized he was looking down at his phone while stopped. Because we did not make eye contact, I had to assume the worst. Seconds later, he began rolling out of the driveway, and only after he overlapped the sidewalk did he turn his head around and make eye contact with me. I made a gesture indicating that I was not amused by his behavior. Once again, my mistrust of driver behavior saved me and I could've been hit if I let my guard down.
This situation is profoundly unfair. Why do I have to be extra careful as a pedestrian to compensate for impatient and careless drivers? Why is it that in a collision, I would break a bone or get an organ bruised or be killed, while they get a little dent in their car and drive away? Why do drivers get away with these behaviors and there is seemingly no police enforcement against dangerous driving?
On a tangent, on this walk I saw no shortage of other offenses and microaggressions committed by drivers. A car inched toward me while I crossed an intersection and he wanted to make a right turn; it made me feel like he could choose to run me over anytime he pleased. About 1 in 20 cars had tinted license plates to make it harder to capture an image. Some cars don't have front Ontario plates (required by law). Loud motorcycles and sports cars passed by about every 5 minutes, especially on Spadina. One moto was so thunderingly loud that it must've been 80 dB at 200 m. There are many apartments in the area and one vehicle can easily disturb the sleep of hundreds, if not thousands of residents. Uber taxis on Portland (bar district) were parked covering half the sidewalk, which is courteous to drivers and discourteous to pedestrians.
I'm so sick of cars and harms they generate such as crashes, pollution, noise, and space. I hate to be the victim of someone else's convenience and poor judgement. Until all drivers use their power tool responsibly, I want to see more restrictions on driving and drastically less usage of cars.

For anyone considering renting a unit from St. George & Associates, whether it be at Beach City, Campus 880, or any of the other properties they manage, don’t. This might sound dramatic, but this has been the worst experience as a tenant I have ever had. First, the company has one office located in downtown Santa Barbara, and any issues you might have at any property have to be dealt with through their office, which isn’t particularly accessible for college students unless you have a car or two hours of time to take the bus. The company is incredibly unresponsive, often taking days to reply to emails about urgent issues like maintenance, rent, and other normal problems that arise when renting. The office is also incredibly disorganized and is not capable of creating a coordinated response. On a number of different occasions, two different people in the office responded to an email and gave two contradictory answers or simply did not answer the question(s) being asked in the initial email.
The rent is absurd, even for Santa Barbara rates. A three-bedroom, six person apartment rents for $1240-$1390 per bed, meaning that each apartment like this is bringing in the company $7,740 a month, and this money is not being reinvested in the property. The apartments are dirty, incredibly worn, and it is clear that years of tenants coming in and out of these buildings has left them very used. The apartments are incredibly bare bones — some of the beds are mattresses balanced on cubbies and plywood, the “closets” are steel lockers, and there is little to no storage. The doors also do not come with doorknobs.
Here is a breakdown of several different instances of poor ownership and responsiveness. It is worth noting that all of these failures are for legitimate problems, not just questions going unanswered. 1. When my roommates and I first applied, the application website allowed for a group application where everyone supplied all of their information and paid fees and then submitted together. We found out over a week after applying that the group application was not valid and that we would all have to submit separate applications and re-pay the fees. We were not refunded for the initial fee payment for the other application and nowhere on the website did it say that the applications needed to be separate. 2. After submitting the application, the office was not responsive as to whether or not our applications had been accepted. It took two weeks of constant emailing and resubmitting documents that had already been submitted with the application to finally hear back that we might receive contracts. 3. After signing the contracts, the company required a fee and deposit that needed to be mailed via check to their office in Santa Barbara. They were not responsive as to when/if the checks had been received, and even lost some of the checks in the mail. After confirming that they had received the checks, it took another month of emailing for them to finally deposit the checks. 4. Shortly after we moved in, the sink clogged, and it took five days for them to respond to our emails requesting maintenance to fix the sink. Five days. 5. During the second month of our lease, the Wi-Fi (provided by the landlord) stopped functioning. There was no notification of this from the landlord, and after emailing twice, they finally got back to me and gave me two very different answers about the problem. One of the responses was brief and assured me that they had an open ticket and the problem should be resolved shortly. The other response suggested that I call the ISP myself and resolve the problem (which obviously I can’t because I don’t have access to any of the information I would need to fix the problem myself). Two weeks after this the Wi-Fi was finally fixed. This happened several times over the 12 months I lived here, and each time they did not notify the tenants and took weeks to resolve the issue. 6. The singular mail key we were given for our apartment of 6 people did not work in our mailbox. I emailed the office informing them of this, and they responded saying that I could come down to their office in Santa Barbara to get a new one anytime between 10-5, Monday-Friday every week, no mention of any closures or anything. I went down within the timeframe they had given me and their office was closed for a meeting. After waiting for about an hour, someone from the office came out and spoke to me, took my key, came back, told me that they only have one person in the office who has access to the keys and that they weren’t there, and then gave me the key (that didn’t work) back. I asked if it would be possible to have a key brought up to the property in IV and they said that someone would deliver the next day. No one did. It took over 2 months to get our mail key replaced. 7. We have had a consistent issue with mold in one of the bathrooms, and the company has failed to assess the extent of the damage, instead sending one of the property managers in to spray bleach and vinegar over the areas with mold. We were told that the ventilation in the downstairs apartments just “wasn’t good,” but no effort was made to improve ventilation or permanently replace the moldy drywall.
I feel like this pretty clearly paints a picture of St. George’s incapacity to adequately manage any of their properties, and it definitely feels like they are taking advantage of college students who might not know better. If you can help it, please don’t rent from this company. Genuinely, I haven’t met anyone who lives in any of their properties who actually enjoys living here.

Had this happened to anyone else? I was working in Santa Rosa CA and I pulled up to take a group of four to a wedding, or maybe a Mormon convention based on the attire DK , because they never got in. I backed up this very steep driveway about 10’ away from the road. After waiting for 2 minutes another uber arrives. Four people walk by the closest car and get into the Uber that just arrived. I texted that I had arrived after 30 seconds. I then asked via text, “did you order 2 Ubers?” After they bailed and they did not respond. I took the opportunity to clean my car and organize my tackle box for 15 minutes. I felt like they should pay for pulling such BS. I received 3$ & change for this. In retrospect I thought that perhaps I should have accepted and driven to their destination & provide them 1 star. IDK, this oblivious bothered me—What would you have done?
