2023.05.28 18:49 sugaredsnickerdoodle If you work, what do you do for a living? Asking for advice

I am feeling so lost (as usual.)
I have worked retail on and off for the past 5 years. I don't like it but it seems to always be the only thing I'm qualified for. I have a degree in animation but my school at the time didn't allow for concentrations until AFTER I was in my senior year, so my animation education was essentially all 101 classes. I had to learn the basics of 3D, 2D, VFX, claymation/stopmotion, traditional paper, video editing, etc... I was literally still taking 101 classes in my junior year, and then come senior year it was time for our thesis films. But I hardly had any opportunity to practice in one specific area. And I was struggling with undiagnosed ADHD until mid-way through my senior year basically, past the point a diagnosis could've actually helped me. I didn't even finish my film, but we basically all passed because there was a lot of leniency with Covid. So I have a degree I feel like I didn't really earn.
All this to say, I don't know what to do anymore. I am so sick of retail. It's not even that I'm bad at it, personally I think I'm good at my job. But I'm never good enough for my employers. They don't just want me to be kind and helpful to customers. They want me to make "genuine connections" and force random conversation with them, apparently to give them a "good customer experience" and it'll make them buy more. But it's inherently not a genuine connection if I am forcing myself to talk to them with ulterior motives of making them feel like I care about them so that they want to buy stuff?
My boss keeps pop-quizzing me too. She comes up at random and asks me "what's everyone in the store shopping for right now" and if I don't know, since %90 of people tell me they're "just looking" she says I need to go and find out. To prove that I am really engaging with the customers or whatever.
It's all very stressful to me, I feel like I'm regularly being told to just be less autistic and I am trying my best but it's not good enough. And it's ironic to me being that my store is literally a fandom oriented retail store, so a lot of customers we get are autistic and probably don't want us to bother them like this! I know personally that when I go shopping and the employees are a little too engaging, I will literally make my escape as soon as they stop speaking and not buy anything because I am mortified to be put in the position of having a conversation with a stranger. And I can't say at this point to my boss that I literally can't handle it, I'm an assistant manager and that'd be essentially saying I'm not capable of doing my job and then who knows what they'd do. Not only that but I can't even ask for reasonable accomodations because, even though I passed autism testing the woman who evaluated me wouldn't give me a formal diagnosis because I "already" have ADHD.
This ended up already being much longer than I anticipated. I just want to know honestly, if anyone here works and likes what they do, WHAT do you do? I feel like with any job option I'm either; not qualified based on my degree and work experience; would not be able to do it because it's too social (like call centers, too much anxiety); or it's just too far away for me to even do it. I feel like I've been stuck at the bottom for 5 years and even having been graduated from college for 2 years I haven't done much. I run an etsy shop but I hardly make enough sales to buy myself fast food every once in awhile, let alone live full time off of it. I want my art to be what I do full time but it feels impossible to get there. I have joined two websites meant to find neurodivergent people accomodating jobs, only to find out after going through the whole sign-up process that no jobs are available. SOMEONE tell me what to do.
TLDR; I have a degree but no real skills, nothing but retail and etsy experience within the last 5 years and fed up with my bosses everywhere I go constantly telling me I don't fulfill their social expectations despite doing what's necessary within my job description and making customers happy. What can I possibly do now.

2023.05.28 18:48 inos777 After 3 years since my sister died I decided to dedicate it to her

Hi there! im gabriele and im from italy, i recently started creating digital junk journals, it took me 3 years to start, because I was undecided whether to do it or not, because my sister julia who sadly died of covid, loved junk journals and always asked me to create one for her and she used to say me that i was good at creating them digitally, but i always said next time next time, but there never was a next time. so here I have opened an etsy shop dedicated to my sister julia, and with the profits of this shop I would like to finance charitable projects in favor of families who have lost their loved ones due to the covid, this is why I am posting almost every day new pages of junk journals and illustrations made by me. I wrote all this primarily to get rid of a weight that I had been carrying for the past 3 years, and also to ask for advice from the most expert of you on how to improve my art, because this is art :) Thanks to those who have read up till here and if you wanna support my shop write it in the comments, even a like on my listings will help me get my first sale :) and I hope I haven't broken any rules of the group, I don't use reddit much, forgive me ❤️

2023.05.28 18:48 RockLeeIsMid Do you think vol 20 will impact sales?

Do you think vol 20 will impact sales?
Due to the lack of content and volume 20 releasing around the corner it got me thinking about the future of this series in terms of sales.
  1. Shueisha listed that there will be more pages in this volume, so this will probably have ch 76-80, which imo is the best string of chapters in this entire manga but that also means it will cost more.
  2. As for as marketing go, they’re recapping the Boruto manga in the current and following v jump issues until the manga’s return.
  3. There’s no anime and I get it, the anime doesn’t really help the manga whatsoever but it reminds people about Boruto’s existence.
Now while this seems like a big turning point of the series, the inner pessimist in me feels like nothing will change and the manga will steadily decline like it always do however I genuinely want this series to do better. I at least want to see vol 20 sales to be higher than vol 19 because it deserves to goddamnit.
What do y’all think?

2023.05.28 18:47 Lowcountryguyyy Buying a house- Normal jitters or....?

Wife and I are in our late 30s and looking to buy. We are both PhDs in different STEM fields and only recently starting earning 6 figures (i.e. I "feel" we are behind in our retirement goals)
The details:
SF House/mortgage details:
Expenses (excluding PITI and utilities):
We recently moved and sold our starter home. At previous salaries and low PITI our old DTI was approx. 8% and new DTI is approx. 16%. Not sure if this is correct but i am using using PITI and gross income to calculate DTI.
Now, my question (thanks for reading this far). We saw approx. 25 (ranging from $400 to $750K) and put offers on 8 homes. We like the house (open concept, fenced in backyard for kids, not too big or too small of a space) and can see ourselves there for 7-10 years or more. Am i getting normal jitters before pulling the trigger on a big purchase like this (in a high rate environment) or we are spending too much on the house?
Thanks

2023.05.28 18:47 SharkPalpitation2042 What RAM and SSD to get with this mobo?

I bought a gaming PC from the pawn shop and have been buying new parts to upgrade it. It has a MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus Mobo, 32GB of some kind of RAM (I think DDR4 @ 2100), a 6500GTX (which is on its way out for a 7900XTX), an AMD 5800x3D, and a crappy (but large) My Passport removable hard drive. I checked out PC parts picker and was thinking about doing some Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3600 RAM Link and a larger SSD. PCPartsPicker recommended the Solidigm P41 Plus Link but I am totally unfamiliar with this brand as well as newer SSDs. The RAM that is in here seems slow as hell, but that could also very well be the hard drive. How do these parts look to you guys? Any alternative suggestions?

2023.05.28 18:43 Bnu98 How to find/make shops?

I've started DMing recently, using my own world I made, and we did a one shot the other dayas a "first taster" sorta deal. It went really well, but the players wanted a pitstop at a shop before leaving for the oneshot. I didn't have anything ready and kinda just told them to tell me what they're looking for and I'd tell them if the shop has the goods and its price. (quicky searching up the standard prices in the books as they asked)
So now that that session is done, I decided to search up shop lists planning to either use the lists I find whole sale, or tweak adding and removing some pieces. But I genuinley can't find anything that even slightly meets what I'm looking for. The idea is that the shop they went to is attached to / appart of the guild, and has a list of "bare essentials" for adventuring. I've struggled to find lists for large general shops to to fill out the city as well as that sort of bare essentials shop. Does anyone either have any tips of how to fill out the basic items in a shop or resources I can look at for filling up a shop?
(I don't have any issues filling out the flavour, themeings etc, just the actual items)

Found a 50% off Gshocks Memorial Day sale at oneness
Hey guys, I stumbled upon a 50% off sale at onenessboutique.com. Not every model but many. I knew about the shop from my days of sneaker collecting, they are in Kentucky. Although I’ve never ordered from them, they’ve been around for years. Once you add to cart you’ll see the watch at the discounted price, if it’s one of the sale watches. Shipping is extra but looks to be reasonable. I have no idea how long the sale lasts. It doesn’t look like the newest watches are on sale, but there are several limited editions and a few titanium and full metal Gs.

The Marketplace post is listed as Local Pickup (Door Pickup) and in the description it says Local Pickup. Guy gets mad when he realizes I won't ship the item. For context: I don't ship items I sell on Facebook under Local Garage sale groups. I do ship if I list the item on Ebay, but I hardly ever do that either.

2023.05.28 18:42 TwoWheelsOneBeard I got burned at a startup I joined 40 days in and was let go as their founding AE. I really need a break or I’ll lose everything soon.

Basically as the title says.
I left a really cushy corporate gig to go work at this really promising startup. I was promised the stars and sky. The founder and I really jived, so I thought, and I really emotionally invested myself into the role.
The product had many parts of it that were being demo’d as a figma but I had to present it as if it was still very real. I had in that 40 days held 12 different meetings and even managed to get 3 meetings into case building.
These are very long sales cycles and I was selling MM with contract values over 50K+ for 1 year contracts. Not at all fast sales but works in progress.
The company itself had only acquired 19 customers in 3 years. Like, I really was giving it my best.
I got the news I was being terminated with no severance with a shitty “not a cultural fit” reason. So I guess there wasn’t alignment on expectations? I really don’t know.
I feel devastated and betrayed. I emotionally poured myself into this role and just feel so heartbroken.
I know i am competent in my job but this came at probably the worst possible time. My personal burnrate is ridiculous and my bank account is running on fumes.
I’ve been in sales for close to 15 years. Worked 100% commission roles where I was part of the top 1% of the company, invited to presidents club 3X. #1 in my market nearly 4 years in a row.
Worked at one series A startup where I helped close 137K in one quarter, generating over 400K in pipeline all outbound.
I burned the bridge of the corporate role when I left to serve that startup, so couldn’t get my old job back if I tried.
I’m not asking for charity or a handout but I really could use help getting an introduction if anyone here knows a startup looking for an AE.
I want to help build and grow the GTM engine. I need help and can’t do it on my own.
Thanks for reading.

2023.05.28 18:41 Gazrpazrp Water damage from adjoining townhouse

I live in a townhome with adjoining homes on each side. I noticed water damage in my downstairs bathroom a few months ago, had leak detection conducted, determined that I was losing a small amount of pressure (most likely slab leak), had a full repipe done bypassing the slab run. Just had the drywall patched and water has reappeared in the downstairs bathroom post repipe. The neighboring unit has been unoccupied for about a month now.
When I first noticed the water I contacted the property management company managing the neighboring unit (Coldwell Banker) who sent a handyman to check their side. He said it was dry on their side and that was that. After that, I had the leak detection done, sent a copy of the report (that suggested the other side get theirs checked as well) to the hoa asking that they forward it to the owner of adjoining unit and to please have them check for leaks on their side from a leak detection professional, not a handyman. No response. Not even an acknowledgement.
Our plumbing was constructed in the same way but opposite (like a mirror image) where the plumbing comes up from the slab in the exact same location on each side of our adjoining wall. Therefore it's difficult to tell if the source is from my side or there's.
Now that I've had a full repipe, have the drywall guy coming back out tomorrow to make sure they didn't puncture a pipe during patching, what is my recourse when I send the hoa a description of what is going on and I get no response again? This is in Florida btw.
Edit: they put the house up for sale after the previous tenant moved out. It's been on the market for about 1 month. Coldwell knew about the water issue before the tenant moved.
