2023.06.04 22:48 Ok_Point7463 Looking for advice on a hedge/boundary issue
So, I need a little advice, to see where I need to go with this.
Details:
I have a detached home, on a corner plot. My house is set further back than my neighbours on the right and at a right angle to my neighbour on the left. Due to the positioning, my plot is almost triangular, and narrows down towards the end of the driveway.
The driveway has hedges both sides, different types, which I obviously trim regularly. The hedges I am asking about are actually trimmed down to the trunk in places, as I wouldn't be able to get my car in if I allowed them to grow.
Hedges on the right must belong to that neighbour, as their house is on lower ground than mine, and the hedge (almost trees) are planted on the lower ground.
My deeds specifically say that the 'left and rear' (looking at the house) boundaries are my responsibility and I am to maintain a boundary of 'higher than 3 feet but not higher than 6 feet' and I have a red 'T' on that boundary at the front.
There is a short fence that runs along part of the boundary, 3 of the trunks are on my side of the fence, then the fence ends and there is a further 2 trunks that continue the boundary (these last two are the only ones that I am able to have grow on my side, but there presence does mean that only one vehicle can park on my driveway)
I also do not get along with my left neighbour, due to a parking dispute many years ago.
I really want to remove the hedges, and replace it with a fence, probably slightly shorter than the hedges currently are. This would give me (and my neighbour) better visibility when reversing out of the driveway, and basically give me almost 2 feet more space.
My first thought is to send her a note with my intentions, give her a chance to express her opinions about it, but I'm not totally sure where I stand.

2023.06.04 22:48 JadenKale I'm Finally in the 200's! (Progress Pics 12/2022-6/2023)
| That week before January 3rd 2022, I never would have believed any doctor that my 428lb self would be down 130lbs only a year and a half later. When I stepped on the scale on June 1st, I practically yelped with excitement. Anyone who is skeptical about whether RNY or a Gastric Sleeve is for them and come across my post please let me offer some advice: 1. Don't just take one hospital/medical center's point of view. I can't tell you how many times I was told I wouldn't need surgery, I just needed to "try harder" on my own. If I hadn't already been trying harder, I wouldn't require more help, now would I? 2. Do your research. I can't emphasize this enough. If you think you need more guidance during your weightloss journey, I wouldn't suggest a quick flight to Mexico to have the surgery completed, where you have little to no support program. In my specific experience, I knew I couldn't take a trip to have a surgery performed outside of the country, and I have a need to understand and check in with someone throughout a process to make sure I'm on the right track or if I needed to tweak my food handling/habits. Luckily, there is a medical clinic in Washington state (part of one of the bigger hospital services in the state), that offers a specialized program for GBS with dedicated ARNP's and a live chat program to ask questions during your progress. As an added benefit, the surgeon who performed my surgery does it all robotically, which means no gasses blown into the body, which eliminated all the horror stories I heard from friends who had the surgery before me, complaining of the gas pain during immediate post-op recovery. This particular surgeon has won numerous awards for his usage of robotics in surgery, specifically relating to Gastric Sleeve and RNY surgeries. The research is half the battle of getting the right help (it also helps that my clinic did NOT require specific food to purchase. Suggestions were given so that we could tailor it to our budget and regular lifestyle so it would be easier to maintain). 3. Talk it over with people you trust. I couldn't have done this alone. In fact, I had been dreaming of doing this for years, but was always dismissed and told to just try harder by medical professionals (see 1.), as well as by family members. Had I still been living closer to my parents, this never would have happened (for me), and I'd still be dreaming of weighing less than what I was 12 years ago - I now weigh 40lbs less than in 2011 - before I left a toxic relationship (another story for another day). My current friends and my hubby have been very supportive in all I've accomplished throughout this process. 4. Expect the unexpected. If you decide to do this surgery (regardless if it's RNY or Gastric Sleeve) you're going to have a variety of unexpected things happen: You're going to feel colder due to the loss of fat/insulation. You're going to be both elated and frustrated by the way clothes fit and how fast you're going to need things, like new undergarments. You'll lose a lot of hair. It starts about 2 1/2 months after surgery and can last 3-4 months. You're going to have body dysmorphia to some degree during your progress. You're going to garner attention - possibly more than you're used to or comfortable with. Managing that additional attention is a battle for those of us who are, or have become, introverted over the years. You're going to have strong hormonal changes: you may get overly emotional out of the blue. Ladies: your doctor needs to warn you that it's not uncommon to become unexpectedly pregnant soon after the surgery, so extra precautions need to be taken if you're sexually active ( "GBS Babies" are a common giggle in the offices). I still have a long road before me, but as I recently told my family: The average weight of a 5'2" person (based solely on medical charts) is approximately 131lbs. I am 5'2". I've lost one whole person so far: I've lost the person who was hurt by a toxic ex. I've lost the person afraid to sit at a party, worried I'd break furniture. I've lost the person afraid to even leave the house. I've lost the person embarrassed for simply existing. I'm tasting the beginnings of freedom from my own body, and it's better than any decadent sweet, or seconds at a buffet. And I want more of it. submitted by JadenKale to GastricBypass [link] [comments] |
2023.06.04 22:47 ChessBro96 Annotations of my Quads games (from a 2100+ USCF player)
So, as some of you may know, I had been experiencing a terrible losing streak lately, dropping games that I really shouldn't to the point that I had been 0+ 2= 5- in the past seven games. However, during the past weekend, I felt a sort of divine bout of inspiration swell up inside of me and wanted to try something new out. Of course, the very next day I find out that I'm getting a bye in the next round.
Since I'm a guy who operates on emotional state, I knew I couldn't allow this chance to cool down, so I decided to take a risk and enroll into Saturday's Quads games (G30;d5). I had the unfortunate circumstance of having a last minute entry bump me down to a lower section, which I out-ranked by a good 150 points at least, so I knew I needed at least a 2,5/3 in order to preserve my rating. A link to the study (which was requested previously when I did this) is linked here:
https://lichess.org/study/fbOOHr9S/VZl1kEAa
Game 1: In the first round, I was paired as White against a young Indian WCM. I'm primarily an 1.e4 player, but these little rascals have been tactically outplaying me for the past several games, so I decided to change things up and went for an anti-QGD. I actually ended up messing my move orders early on, which allowed her to equalize early because I couldn't guarantee the appearance of an IQP or hanging pawns structure on the board to play off. However, she seemed to be confused by the resulting position — I noticed that young players in these situations tend to attempt to form tactics when the board is quiet, but as a result she ended up floating aimlessly. There were actually two opportunities when she could have obtained an advantage, but she missed them and we ended up going into a rook and bishop endgame. I've also noticed that kids are notoriously terrible at endgames (which as somebody raised on the Soviet school of chess I find hilarious), as she misplayed what I considered a pretty basic endgame, although she was in time trouble at this point (and so was I). I ended up securing the passer and marching it up to victory. 1-0 for me.
Game 2: I was playing against a young Chinese kid as Black this time around and I went for the same strategy in the English Opening: slow the game down as much as possible and not allow any tactics to be induced into the position. And even though there were some moves that the engine ultimately wasn't a fan of, I succeeded in my strategy and ended up with a small edge. I did however miss an opportunity to play a blockade in the middlegame (rapid game, what can I tell ya?) which meant he had an opportunity to secure a plus if he gave away his h2-pawn for the f3-pawn. However, he didn't notice it and went for an endgame a pawn down. However, we both were in a fair bit of time trouble at this point as well and the endgame was quite complex with each side having 5-6 pawns with a knight vs bishop. I messed up some maneuvering that I probably would have gotten on longer time controls... I'll have to work on my endgames some more so that it'd come more intuitively. However, at a moment when he had a chance to equalize, with 30 seconds on the clock, he blundered straight into a fork and instantly resigned on the spot. 2-0 for me.
Game 3: This time, as Black, I was against a fellow Russian player who also scored 2-0 in the previous two rounds, so as they say: the winner takes it all. We went into a fairly well-known sharp line of the Sveshnikov that is no longer played at top level anymore after Peter Leko's 12...Rg8 neutralized it. He ended up fumbling the theory badly and gave a completely winning position for Black. However, I fumbled it as well by going into the endgame with a solid edge rather than pressing the winning position. The issue being that I spent several minutes on calculation before realizing that I actually didn't have enough time to calculate all the variations of the incredibly sharp line, so I was satisfied for going to a positional plus instead. Which we both ended up fumbling a little, but I ended up breaking through with my rook on the queenside and emerging a pawn up with the king on the back rank that I exploited. He resigned as soon as he realized how hopeless his piece-down position was. 3-0 for me.
In conclusion, not bad, scoring a performance rating of 2369 and going from 2127 to 2173 USCF. However, there were definitely a few issues I have to work on despite the wins: the first game needs some work on opening theory and move transpositions if I want to adopt the quieter 1.Nf3 into my repertoire — I can't allow Black to equalize that easily early on. The next two games I had a bit too many fumbles in the endgame, despite their complexity, especially in the second game, which I shouldn't have pissed away like that (42...g4? was an especially sketchy move) so I need a bit more work on knight vs bishop endgames especially. The third game was fine for the most part, but could use a bit of improvement on calculation abilities and especially back rank understandings: I was actually a little confused as to what I should have done against 32.f3 if it had appeared on the board, so that was a combination deficiency right there. Other than that, I can't say that I'm not happy with the result, and hope this offsets some of the rating loss that will be incurred in the ongoing tournament.
Any suggestions and questions are welcome. :)

2023.06.04 22:47 Guido_Cavalcante Grave Digging Scene and the Layers of the Metaphor
Just finished the show last night and WOW what a journey. I’m still reflecting on the opening of season 5 where they dig-up William Crandall, the scientist’s, body.
There are so many layers to the metaphor, and what it symbolizes for Philip and Elizabeth in that moment of their journey:
- P&E (and the others) are digging their own graves by continuing to engage in espionage; just like Crandall, who they’re excavating
- P&E are taking a chunk of flesh from Crandall’s corpse; a ‘pound of flesh’ is from Merchant of Venice and symbolizes the emotional price this work takes on their souls
- P&E digging up the grave of Crandall, a friend and colleague, evokes Hamlet and Horatio coming across the grave of Yorick (“Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him well…”); the scene generally reflects how much time has past, and how people change over time, like P&E since their journey started
It’s such an important moment for Philip, especially, as he’s reckoning with the toll the job is taking on him. What an amazing show.

2023.06.04 22:47 AmmonomiconJohn Lootable Zombies in Jurassic Junction
In the beginning of a Heartland playthrough, one of your first mandatory missions is to clear out Jurassic Junction. I just completed that mission, during which there was one lootable zombie (the ones with a PC character model, but the blood plague decals). Shortly after leaving the base, I ran into another lootable zombie, near the base's safe zone boundary. This surprised me, since it was probably 10 in-game hours later.
Do we know how many lootable zombies are supposed to be in/around Jurassic Junction before you clear it out? I assume it's a set number.

2023.06.04 22:46 snoozey4 kitten is killing rats (medication?)
i am a new cat mom, i’ve had my baby since january. she’s about to turn eight months, and has recently taken a liking to catching/killing lizards. today, however, she caught and killed a full sized rat and brought it inside the house which to me was a little more alarming than the lizards. when i got her i intended for her to be an indoor cat, which is what i told the vet at her first check up back in february. at that appointment they gave me credelio for her to take, which i don’t really remember what was for (i’m assuming worms or fleas or both?). either way, they told me it would do what it needed to for indoor cats, not so much outdoor. since then she has learned how to use the dog door though, so she is now indoooutdoor. admittedly, i have not been back to the vet since even though i know that, outdoor or not, i am supposed to keep up with her medication each month. its just really far away (bad cat mom, i know). i was planning on scheduling an appointment with the vet within the next month to fix this problem, however, now i am thinking that may be much more urgent due to her killing lizards and now rats. basically, my question is whether or not this is as urgent as i am making it out to be. everyone keeps telling me "that's just what cats do" but i'm still anxious. do i need to take her to the vet ASAP because of the rat or can i just go within the next month to get the medicine like i had been planning to do? moreover, is there a certain kind of new medicine she should be on now that she is indoooutdoor? i have noticed that when i go to the pet store they have over the counter medicine for cats that seems very similar to the ones prescribed at the vet, and i have always wondered the difference between the two. could something like that work for her monthly medication? also let me know if i'm just overreacting entirely, as many of my friends and family i have talked to over the past few months actually say they never give their cat medicine at all. they say its not as necessary as it is with dogs but i don't know!
edit: if not vet/medication, is there anything else i should do when this happens?

2023.06.04 22:46 DemiSayan Extreme lack of confidence
I (17M) have always been quiet ever since I was a kid. I never really spoke unless I was spoken to and the times I did speak it was usually in short replies. Now as a teenager, even tho its gotten better, I still have many of the same problems. I cant talk for a longer period of time without stumbling through my words cause of the realization that people are actually listening to me talk. I've also developed a bad habit of mirroring the other person in fear of a bad interaction or disagreement. It feels like i've lost whatever was left of my personality and now im just trying to fit in. I dont know how to take a strong stance on any subject as im very easily influenced by everyone around me, feels like my opinions aren't even mine. I've been told on 2 occasions "you should drink more often" by girls ive been talking to, texting them drunk. That really broke me, knowing I'll never be half as fun or interesting if im not intoxicated. Maybe its not that deep and they were trying to say "you should be flirty more often" but phrased as "you should drink more often" it just hurts. I dont know why I can't just be myself around anyone and I dont know why im so scared of people but its been eating away at me for as long as I can remember.
I think most of these problems can be chalked up to low self esteem. I live in Eastern Europe where mental health isn't really something thats talked about too often and a good therapist here is really expensive. Wouldn't really know how to communicate this to any friend or family member either so I've turned to this community, which has helped me before :) I'm very willing to change, I just want to look more positively on myself and like the person that I am without feeling the need to change myself.
TLDR: How do become more confident?

2023.06.04 22:45 ScouserNed Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 240 Processor Liquid Cooler
Hi I’ve had real issues overnight with my pc fans and ordered some new thermal paste as my CPU suddenly started overheating. Rather than try to replace the water cooler I’m hoping this will Fix it Even though I’m scared about refitting the cooler on top of my cpu due to some awful two pin screws and brackets that came with this built pc.
Anyway over 3 months ago I paid for an it guy to come over as my pc fan started making a loud noise then turned itself off. I then noticed the cpu was running really hot and shutting down. This guy came around and started changing in bios from pwm to ds which seemed to have fixed the issue however today reared it’s ugly head.
The question I’m basically hoping to get to is: should my fan be set to pwm or ds? I read about how many pins and as a none it expert I’m lost. The actual cooler which sits on top of the cpu plugs into 4 pins but the radiator fans at the back seem to possibly sit in 3 pins but I’ve not taken that off or don’t want to. Any help Would be much appreciated.
Details of system are;
Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK ATX Motherboard with USB Type-C
CPU Cooling: Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 240 Processor Liquid Cooler

2023.06.04 22:45 googlgoo Whistleblower on others harassment and discrimination as well as my own harassment by HR
Hello I’m not quite sure what to do and I need advice on the following:
Based on the information below- Is what the HR director is doing even illegal? Is HR director creating a hostile work environment? Are all of our stories enough for action to be taken against the HR director? Do I get my own counsel for this? I am worried about retaliation being the whistleblower from not only HR but potentially others in senior leadership as well.
My experience:
I work for a non profit (less than 100 employees). I started about 3 years ago and ever since I joined our director of HR (a team of 2 people) has been incredibly problematic.
For background, I’m 25f, white, I’m based in California, and our organization was originally completely remote but has now shifted to virtual.
As the youngest employee in my company for quite some time there were always comments about my age that started out fine like “your generation gives me hope” that came from the director of HR. After a while it evolved into comments about how I was good with technology and just typical gen z sterotypes. They didn’t bother me that much as they weren’t negative or derogatory, but it made me feel incredibly isolated and just very singled out. I don’t think this qualifies as harassment, but this was just the start of her impact on my experience in the workplace.
We became a hybrid organization back in September (this decision was made sometime between March and May 2022, and announced in June 2022). I believe the decision was made in early April because I was warned not to move too far away when I asked about the process of moving at that time (this is important and relates to coworker #2s experience).
A few weeks into our new hybrid model, I had to have surgery where I ended up losing a significant amount of weight. I struggle with an eating disorder and this weight loss took a very large toll on my physical and mental health. I had to take some time off of work to recover, but when I returned 3 weeks later is when my HR director started making numerous comments on my body and appearance.
“You’re so skinny” “You lost so much weight, you need to get some meat on you” “I wish I could be that skinny, everything just goes right to my stomach now. But look at you, you’ve got nothing on you” (In response to me saying my weight loss isn’t a good thing for me) “oh just come over to my house. we’re always eating” “You look great, you’ve lost so much weight” “I just don’t have that metabolism like you do anymore”
After the third comment I made it very clear that I had an unhealthy relationship with food and this weight loss was very difficult for me to deal with. And still she commented on my body after the fact. I can tell it either came from a place of jealousy, or was meant as a compliment. But it is not okay to comment on people’s physical appearance whatsoever even if you think it’s a compliment. Many people have overheard it and it just again made me feel very singled out and isolated and incredibly uncomfortable in my own skin. It makes it difficult to do my job and although these comments aren’t as frequent, they have all happened since we came back into the office in the past 8 months.
Back in December I handed in my two weeks notice, but after long discussions I decided to stay as I got the promotion I had been fighting for for months. At the end of the conversation of me agreeing to stay on HR forced me to hug her, and it was extremely uncomfortable, I did not want to be touched but she did it anyways.
Over the past year I had had some funny calendar appointment names such as “leave me alone so I can be productive please and thanks”. Every single person who has seen that on my calendar has told me they thought it was funny. My HR director specifically said to me “that’s hilarious, oh you keep me young”. A few weeks ago she calls my supervisor into her office and told my supervisor to tell me to take it down bc HR director doesn’t like the language. That’s totally fine if somebody was uncomfortable with it/wanted me to take it down. But why didnt she come to me directly? And also with the gaslighting. It just all makes me feel uncomfortable coming into the office and interacting with her at all (which I have to for certain projects that she controls the budget)

2023.06.04 22:44 StructureChance6097 Need advice (TW bad parental relationship)
Made a burner account bc I don't want to leak my age on my main. I'm NB17 but turning 18 in a few months. I'm self-diagnosed audhd and have depression and anxiety. My parents only know that I'm enby, but they always use the wrong pronouns and they use my necronym behind my back. When I mentioned the prospect of me being autistic two years ago they dismissed me (despite my younger sibling being autistic). For many years I've felt distanced from them, haven't really been able to rely on their support and felt very overlooked and mistreated, and I also found out they probably were not really giving me an adequate amount of food (they've told me stuff like "you've had enough" several times when I still wanted more). I don't feel like I can talk to them honestly due to feeling judged or criticised or ignored whenever I have, and they've dismissed communication attempts I've initiated and claimed I never try to communicate. I have had to do lot for them throughout the past decade of my life (around a year ago I was doing around 23h a week for them in addition to still being in high school) and for more than five years have felt the desire to move out ASAP. In that time period, I've considered contacting the youth office to be taken out of my family several times, but mostly as an option, not really feeling like I could.
Now I've been in contact with the youth office for a couple of months and have considered going through with it. I thought I'd decided I need to get out of here but this week I have the best opportunity I'm probably going to get before I turn 18 and I can't do it anymore and I'm getting cold feet. I feel like, realistically I need to do this, I need to take the best opportunity I have before it's gone and I can't even prepare if I decide to in the future. But my mind is also telling me that, maybe I don't need to, things are better, I can deal with it for the last two years before I'm done with school, why not? But at the same time I know that isn't true, I'm very mentally ill and I should probably take the opportunity.
I suppose I kind of want to hear from other people who don't have all of this mental and emotional turmoil to deal with in addition to making the decision whether I'd be making the right move by leaving or not. I'm too disconnected from my experiences to trust either types of my own judgement.
Thanks to anyone who reads this and responds in advance.

2023.06.04 22:43 abc-animal514 Pokemon Theory: Gods, Evolution, Technology, and Humans.
| Legendary and Mythical Pokémon in the Pokémon world can be compared to cryptids, kaiju, and gods, as they often embody natural elements or moral concepts. These extraordinary creatures are unique, with only one of each species (with a few exceptions). I tried putting together a connecting family tree of the Legendary Pokémon. It’s a bit messy but I tried: https://preview.redd.it/7qadsbmxb24b1.jpg?width=1818&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50124476caff722aeefb035487ba309198d627db Two legendary Pokémon come from outer space, in the form of the powerful Eternatus and the mutated space virus, Deoxys. And then there’s the Ultra Beasts, extradimensional pokemon from Ultra Space, a dimension connected to the Distortion World of which Giratina rules. Considered sub-legendary, in spite of there being more than one of each. Known examples include: Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Poipole, Naganadel, Stakataka, Blacephalon, and the Unowns. The 18 different Pokémon types were created based on natural and magical elements. https://preview.redd.it/2d49y05yb24b1.jpg?width=1818&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7169303458146a9a2e3b1b4cd044c3866fa117b Examining the evolutionary processes in the Pokémon world reveals intriguing parallels to the real world. According to Pokémon lore, Mew's attempt to create the first life form resulted in the creation of Ditto, a polymorphous blob. This suggests that Pokémon life may have originated from single-celled organisms, mirroring the evolutionary history of Earth. Solosis, known as the Cell Pokémon, could be seen as one of the early Pokémon to emerge from this evolutionary path. Here’s a quick rundown of animal evolution for those who need a refresh: https://preview.redd.it/0hymm8myb24b1.jpg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78e26d21abedb5cd8e4a174a55a9260dc90e7e7e The Pokémon world is notable for its inclusion of plants and fungi that exhibit animal-like sentience, indicating unique evolutionary developments within this realm. The existence of regional variants of Pokémon across different parts of the world suggests diverse adaptations to various environments. Similar to Earth, the Pokémon world has witnessed extinction events akin to those of the dinosaurs. But through human experimentation and hybridization with fossilized DNA, these species have been brought back. And some species have been revived through the enigmatic effects of paradoxical time travel. Certain Pokémon showcase gender-specific evolutions, displaying distinct physical characteristics reminiscent of sexual dimorphism. While some Pokémon of the same species may differ in coloration based on gender, many others undergo significant transformations, evolving into entirely different species in their adult forms. Moreover, there are Pokémon that belong to single-gender species. The reproductive mechanisms of single-gender Pokémon populations can spark some questions. While hermaphroditic animals reproduce through broadcast spawning or regenerative budding, it is plausible that these Pokémon engage in parthenogenesis. This process, observed in real-life all-female species such as the whiptail lizard, involves reproduction with only female organs and the ability for eggs to hatch without fertilization, resembling cloning in nature. It is worth noting that while many of these Pokémon exhibit plant-like characteristics, their reproductive methods could be associated with pollination. https://preview.redd.it/bav5kzczb24b1.jpg?width=1461&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3879fea03e7c6f30cc7cd50b46ff757b14e3dd5a While the majority of Pokémon draw inspiration from real or mythical plants, fungi, and animals, a significant number derive their designs from inanimate objects, such as: - Rocks
- Ice cubes
- Robots
- Gears
- Bells
- Keys
- Sludge
- Trash bags
- Candles
- Lamps
- Balloons
- Smog
- Clouds
- Statues

Many of these object-based Pokémon are created through spiritual possession by ghosts and ancient powers, or through human experimentation in laboratories or factories. As a result, they have spread throughout the world. It is worth noting that some legendary Pokémon, such as Genesect, Magearna, Type: Null, and Mewtwo, were specifically created by humans. Mewtwo, in particular, was brought into existence through genetic duplication and human-Pokémon hybridization involving Mew. The presence of humans in the Pokémon world gives rise to intriguing questions regarding their evolutionary origins. While humans on Earth evolved from primates, there are Pokémon that exhibit remarkable humanoid traits, bridging the gap between animal and human life. It is conceivable that the first humans in this world arose through convergent evolution between these humanoid Pokémon species. https://preview.redd.it/64zyyfa0c24b1.jpg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1c1852c3ded9b82e916477954f9d2b44a19a005 Many have often wondered what it's like inside a Pokéball. How do larger Pokémon fit into this small contraption? When a Pokéball hits a Pokémon, as long as it is not deflected, it opens, and the Pokémon is engulfed in a beam of energy. This energy causes the Pokémon to shrink and be enclosed within the ball. It's actually quite advanced technology if you think about it. But how does it really work? The ball could tap into the Pokémon's internal energy, which grants them their powers, and manipulate their size to store them. There are various types of Pokéballs with different energy concentrations, making it easier to catch tougher creatures. But what is it like for a Pokémon inside the ball? Is it cramped? Unlikely, as that would be dangerously impossible and highly unethical. However, producer Junichi Masuda confirmed that it's actually quite comfortable, almost like a luxury hotel suite. It could be hypothesized that the inside of the ball creates a virtual reality experience, artificially generated to provide the perfect environment for each species. When summoned, the Pokémon grows back to its full size from the orb. https://preview.redd.it/hcbtj2m2c24b1.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45632ed33c269c754b909884b8d8a7f353a238a9 https://i.redd.it/1wcx4ks9c24b1.gif The Pokémon world shares striking similarities with Earth, featuring locations that resemble real-world counterparts. The first nine regions, based on locations in Japan, the USA, France, the UK, and Spain, respectively, can be geographically aligned with their real-world counterparts while possessing unique names, civilizations, and biodiversity. Viewing the Pokémon world as an alternate version of Earth is a more plausible concept than my previous theory suggesting it to be a replication created by extraterrestrial scientists, reminiscent of Marvel's High Evolutionary. Lastly, the enigmatic nature of Cubone's story adds an intriguing layer to its existence. Cubone is said to wear the skull of its deceased mother, Marowak. Considering that there are multiple Cubone in the world, it raises the question of whether every Cubone has lost its mother. One possible explanation could be that shortly after an adult female Marowak gives birth, she tragically passes away, leaving the baby Cubone orphaned. This life cycle is reminiscent of that observed in certain species, such as octopuses. Furthermore, an all-but-confirmed theory suggests a connection between Cubone, Marowak, and Kangaskhan. It is speculated that Cubone is a slightly older baby Kangaskhan. By linking the life cycle of Kangaskhan to the previously mentioned Marowak life cycle, a plausible explanation can be constructed. However, the true nature of Cubone's origins remains a mystery. submitted by abc-animal514 to u/abc-animal514 [link] [comments] |
2023.06.04 22:42 C_isforcookieandcake Seats & Reviews for the 4 shows I got lottery tickets for in the past month
| After quitting my job last month I decided to use the newly found free time and try to see as many Broadway shows via lottery tickets as I possibly can! While it takes mainly luck for the drawing, I was lucky to have won 4 shows all via the online lottery 1-2 days before. Here are the seats I got + price for people that might be curious in what lottery tickets can get you, plus my non-professional thoughts on each productions. https://preview.redd.it/mizgt60ia24b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71a58e45dfd498846a3c0080222ca3ced19ff854 Peter Pan Goes Wrong $40 (original approx. $162) ORCHESTRA RIGHT, Row C The side seats got great views and no obstruction at all. I had a great time laughing at the gags, silly jokes and very well-rehearsed “accidents.” The pre-show was a little confusing at first but really fun to see the casts up close and interact with them. Kimberly Akimbo $45 (original approx. $195) ORCHESTRA CENTER, Row AA Right in the center of the 1st row! I can see every details of each actors expressions, their spits were directly in my face (no wonder a lot of people wore a mask in the front lol). I was not expecting myself to love this show so much. It is heartwarming, heart-wrenching and hilarious at the same time. At the end of it I was weeping uncontrollably…with a smile on my face. Amazing casts and stage design. Highly recommend this show! Good Night, Oscar $40 (original approx. $165) ORCHESTRA LEFT, Row P I got this for a Wednesday afternoon show, and the seat was the last row of orchestra but the view still very good, no obstruction at all. Sean Hayes is absolutely brilliant, I almost forgot I’m watching an actor and really believed I’m seeing Oscar Levant. I cannot imagine how hard it is to play Rhapsody in Blue - while in character - everything day…so so impressed. The length of the show is a sweet 1h 45 mins and I was totally lost in it. Really hoping I can spend more time watching him on stage. Camelot $44 (original approx. $205) ORCHESTRA CENTER, Row K Amazing seat right in the middle with great views of the entire stage and close enough to see each actors facial expressions. As much as I enjoy looking at the casts and has been a fan of most of Aaron Sorkin’s works; it was a little hard for me to be fully concentrated and not keep my mind from wandering during the show. Perhaps you have to be already familiar with the original Camelot to be fully invested in this revival? That's all the recaps, I have no complaints and am so grateful to be able to see the shows with a fraction of the original costs. I do feel a bit sad to see some of the seats empty due to whatever reason; hopefully with the summer tourist season the shows can see a big boost in audiences! submitted by C_isforcookieandcake to Broadway [link] [comments] |
2023.06.04 22:42 luciflerfather Gardens of the Moon; Malazan
First time reading Gardens of the Moon
The first time I had heard of Malazan was a few weeks ago in passing, and thought nothing of it. As I was searching for something to quench my fantasy thirst, I kept searching for something to invest my time in. And then I heard of Malazan again and it piqued my interest, so I researched a bit watched a couple videos and the reviews were quite mixed. Readers were saying it was the hardest book they had read and couldn’t understand any of it. Others said it was one of the best fantasy series they had read.
So do what I do best I ignored all the warnings about how, you get plunged into the world without any guiding or clue. And the many people that have given up reading this book because they didn’t understand anything of what was going on.
So my plan reading this was to slowly read through but it was quite difficult as it felt like I didn’t understand any of it, or more importantly that I was missing something. But I kept reading and reading and to my expectations. I have never read a fantasy book so immersing it felt like I was transported to another realm the world of Malazar.
I just kept reading through the feeling that I didn’t understand any of it. (I still don’t but a bit more than at first.) And it has payed I can’t quite describe how good this book is.
For anyone who is intimidated by this book just go in with an understanding that you don’t need to know everything.

My acne is mild-moderate. Have tried all the lotions and potions. Only thing that has helped was spiro but had soo many side effects. Very anxious about health and side effects. Differin helps but not that much. Considering a very low-dose Accutane. I weigh about 120lbs female. What's the lowest dose that has the least side effects? How long would I have to take it? Anyone else with anxiety who takes it?

2023.06.04 22:41 Drs_08 BEC Exam Preparation?
How is your preparation going? I am planning to write somewhere around Sep, right now i am feeling so anxious and lost with my preparation. Trying to be self confident but I don't know i just passed an extremely low paced Sunday today.
Also many people appearing for BEC exams now makes me wonder will the exam gonna be too tough? Sometimes when i feel low, i just think of my result day when i will enter my credentials and it will appear as PASS. I so want to clear the exam in my 1st attempt but equally so anxious and underconfident because the chapters which I thought my preparation was good, after taking a mini mocktest I found out that as soon i see my questions i just don't recall any concepts and i am just guessing. I don't know why this is happening.☹️

2023.06.04 22:41 cuntagi0us What are your thoughts on Ole Ivar Lovaas, the founder of ABA?
Idk if many people have done research into it, but I definitely have and a lot of the things that I learned about him were appalling me. Makes it understandable why ABA had such a bad reputation for so long until things started changing for the better in recent years. Although things have changed, there are still bad clinicians, technicians, and people in this field who have the same mindset that Lovaas did. We still have a long way to change. Take the Judge Rotenburg Center for one.
In my research about him, I learned that he promoted electric shock to make autistic kids become neurotypical again. Not only did he focus on what ABA is mainly known for today, which is helping these individuals gain skills and live a better quality of life just the way they are, he believed autistic people weren't even people. He even said:
"You see, you start pretty much from scratch when you work with an autistic child. You have a person in the physical sense – they have hair, a nose and a mouth – but they are not people in the psychological sense. One way to look at the job of helping autistic kids is to see it as a matter of constructing a person. You have the raw materials, but you have to build the person.”
Not only was he involved in just "treating" and "curing" autism. He was also involved in the Feminine Boy Project which focused on demonstrating reinforcement control over pronounced feminine behaviors in a male child who had been psychologically evaluated as manifesting “childhood cross-gender identity”. He studied side by side and co-authored studies with George Rekers and inspired many of the approaches (including electric shock) he used against autistic children to cure homosexuality and transsexualism in children. On one of their first studies on children with atypical gender behaviors, their subject was a 'feminine' young boy named Kirk Murphy who was homosexual by 4 years old at the inception of treatment, which they claimed to be a success as the boy was "cured". Kirk Murphy committed suicide as an adult and the suicide was attributed to the gay conversion therapy treatment done by Rekers and Lovaas. Following Murphy's suicide, his sister told the news that she read his journal which described how he feared disclosing his sexual orientation because when receiving the behavior modification treatment as a young boy, his father would beat him severely if he was given a different color "poker chip" as punishment for feminine-like behavior such as playing with dolls.
The history and connection between ABA and gay conversion therapy is not talked about enough honestly and it makes me feel sick to know this side of history went unacknowledged. I'm not anti ABA, I'm an RBT. I even taught my BCBA most of this because she didn't know about it let alone studying ABA so extensively. Crazy.

2023.06.04 22:40 Ban6432 Regarding characters in and out of their prime
| This talk about how much weaker characters get with age is quite annoying and really tedious. Here's how it is, just because a character is old does not automatically equal that they have grown weaker. https://preview.redd.it/q61ct4t5w14b1.jpg?width=1828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1cd6a8f95276e385c85c02baf60305c2844f3fb8 Firstly One Piece is fiction and doesn't always translate very well to real life, just 'cause people get slower and weaker with age irl does not mean they have to do it in fiction, they can but it's not a requirement. Then we have statements about characters reflecting on themselves and the strength they used to have. But there's world of differences between Rayleigh telling his wife in confidence that he isn't the man he once was... https://preview.redd.it/kjts1zkpb14b1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=be92bb28f13a19874e5669eeb0a6c86b30079476 And Garp trolling and giving himself a hard time after casually performing the greatest Haki feat in the series thus far. If you can't see the difference I have no idea what to tell you. The manga is literally correcting him after he dared to call himself weak Saying a certain character is automatically weaker 'cause they're older would be like saying another character is automatically weaker because they are or have gotten fat. Just because that was the case for Gecko Moria. https://preview.redd.it/vuovi1g8124b1.jpg?width=1828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aee1c2f3a716bf004922a09fb783e8ccd9548e55 Both of them got fat, however only one of them is continuously shit on by the fanbase and characters within the series alike as a pathetic weakling while the other is portrayed as a rampaging monster and an equal to the Strongest Creature Kaido. Not to mention has one of the most insanely devoted followings on this specific subreddit lol So what I'm saying is just 'cause one character got weaker with age does not mean another has to, just like one character doesn't have to get weaker by becoming overweight just 'cause that happened to another. So until we see actual proof that someone like Garp was gotten considerably weaker in any way, he is still the same monster all pirates know as the Devil. Garp himself saying he’s gotten weaker ’cause of age means less than zero. It’s the same case as King Bradley in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood saying he’s getting slower with age. He says that, then proceeds to absolutely dominate anyone he fights. \"How many times am I going to have to kill you before you stay dead?\" Garp saying he's lost his touch after annihilating an entire town with a Conqueror's Nuke is literally Oda poking fun at all the naysayers who think every old legend in One Piece belongs in a retirement home. I mean here it is from the man himself: idk what more proof you require It's word for word described that old characters in One Piece aren't necessarily limited by the physical restraints they would be in real life. They can be, as in the case of Whitebeard's illness and Rayleigh being hardcore retired and spending the last 20 years drinking and gabbling. But they absolutely don't have to and it should definitely not be taken as the norm. And if that still doesn't convince some of you think about it from Oda's writing standpoint. What do you think is more fun for Oda? Letting his imagination flow freely and have the option to make any character as strong or weak as he wishes? Or constantly having to remind himself that some characters are out of their prime and therefor aren't allowed to be as badass as the others? Like come tf on, this should be an open and shut case. So when you make your tier lists, stop placing old characters 12 dimensions away from their younger selves. submitted by Ban6432 to OnePiecePowerScaling [link] [comments] |

2023.06.04 22:40 ic3dc0r3 How to create a character?
Hello everyone, I was just reading through the quickstart guide for the Darington Press' new game Candela Obscura. I couldn't find anywhere on how a new character is created. For example how to calculate the initial drive points? How to decide on how many dice to roll for each of the actions?
Thank you so much in advance.
