2023.06.04 22:46 MaleHooker Sunsun HW-303b head o-ring/gasket

Hi friends. I have a Sunsun HW-303b canister filter, and the head o-ring could use some replacement. Does anyone know offhand what the dimensions are or where I could find out? Hardware stores in my area usually carry a wide variety of o-rings, so I was thinking I could pick one up now instead of ordering it and waiting.

Very sorry for people who have lost funds in #AtomicWallet.

I hope funds can be recovered - I understand that people are carefully tracking the funds on chain.
Things like this make people understandably nervous and scared. For the record - Arculus does not save your recovery phrase. With Arculus, private keys are not on your phone; they are stored on the Arculus card's hardware secure element and they cannot be removed from the card's secure element. Private keys are generated on the card and never leave the card.

2023.06.04 22:15 bagelwoof USB zpool, or zfs Pools Generally?

I'm still gathering hardware to set up.
So far, I have an Optiplex 3020 with a core i5, with 16G of RAM and a smallish SSD (240GB) for the OS and executables. I'm waiting on a Coral, which will be the USB variant. I have an Amcrest camera just to get started wit config. My setup will have a maximum of 8 cameras.
I have an 8TB USB drive, but am considering something different for video storage considering the warnings about how video wears regular drives pretty heavily. Also, I don't think I actually want to store that much video. I would, OTOH, like the video storage to be reliable.
I'm considering smaller WD Purple or Seagate Skyhawk drives. So... I've been reading about zfs and zfs pools. I know that there are some tricks to getting a zfs pool to remount correctly (setting up by id, seems to be the way to go).
Are there any serious downsides or special considerations to setting up a s 3 disk level 5 pool for Frigate? Is this overkill? A bad idea? A good idea?

2023.06.04 21:55 CyberSibey Windows 10 Chrome reports self-signed cert, but Win10 can't find it so it can be removed.

I'm in need of an Windows wizard skilled in the black art of certificates.
Statement of the Problem: An invalid (self-signed) CA certificate which the browser (Chrome) says it's using, can't be found by standard Windows tools so it can be removed. If you have skills in this area and are willing to give me a few minutes of your time and, if you can, your expertise -- read on.
Background: I am building out a small proof-of-concept self-hosted environment in Docker on Windows 10 (yeah, I know...) so I can prove to myself that I know what I'm doing with Docker before I invest in more suitable hardware. The reason I'm posting here (instead of selfhosted) is that there is no issue with the containers in that they run and are are reachable over HTTP, but not over HTTPS despite that SSL certificates have been issued by Let's Encrypt using NGINX Proxy Manager. I've identified a bogus CA certificate present on the box because it is self-signed by "Linuxserver.io". It appears that this is being presented when I connect to that Docker service over SSL instead of the one from Let's Encrypt (validity of certificate ensured through a https://crt.sh lookup), and therefore the connection fails.
Details of Identified Certificate: I deployed the 'grocy' Docker container and then hit localhost on the host port of 8443. The connection is made but of course the browser (Chrome) reports 'Not Secure' as the 'Issued To' and 'Issued By' are both 'Linuxserver.io' for "Organization" as shown in https://imgur.com/a/HRJJwsC. The 'Details' tab identifies the serial number as "3E:ED:D6:ED:3D:27:47:36:B3:A4:02:70:FB:13:66:A8:48:75:7B:96" as identified in https://imgur.com/a/tuk4ZpX .
Troubleshooting: At this point, armed with the 'Issuer' Linuxserver.io and 'Serial Number' 3EEDD6ED3D274736B3A40270FB1366A848757B96, I thought the process would be straight-forward. Alas, clearly the browser knows there's a certificate but Windows can't find a certificate with that issuer or serial number.
PowerShell
All of the following return no matches.
PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-ChildItem Cert:\LocalMachine\Root\ where { $_.issuer -eq "Linuxserver.io" }
PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-ChildItem Cert:\LocalMachine\CA where { $_.issuer -eq "Linuxserver.io" }
PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-ChildItem Cert:\CurrentUser\Root\ where { $_.issuer -eq "Linuxserver.io" }
PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-ChildItem Cert:\CurrentUser\CA where { $_.issuer -eq "Linuxserver.io" }
certmgr.msc
All of the following return no matches.
Action > Find Certificates > Find in All Certificate Stores > Serial Number > 3EEDD6ED3D274736B3A40270FB1366A848757B96
Action > Find Certificates > Find in All Certificate Stores > Issued By > Linuxserver.io
Action > Find Certificates > Find in All Certificate Stores > Issued To > Linuxserver.io
certutil.exe
All of the following return no matches.
C:\>certutil -store ca findstr /i 3EEDD6ED3D274736B3A40270FB1366A848757B96
C:\>certutil -store my findstr /i 3EEDD6ED3D274736B3A40270FB1366A848757B96
C:\>certutil -store root findstr /i 3EEDD6ED3D274736B3A40270FB1366A848757B96
So, the question is how do I delete an existing certificate that the browser says it's using, but Windows can't find. Any Windows sysadmins out there that can solve this issue, suggest additional troubleshooting steps or spot my stupidity?

2023.06.04 21:29 TheAn0Nym0uS1 RAM usage issue.

RAM usage issue.
I have a custom PC I built using components purchsed in 2020, current specs are below:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core
MB: Asus TUF B450M-PLUS Gaming (with BIOS Version 4002)
RAM: Corsair 32GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX C15 3000MHz (4x8GB)
Storage:
  1. Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD (Primary storage for OS)
  2. Samsung 870 QVO 1TB SSD (Secondary storage for all games)
  3. Seagate IronWolf 4TB (Tertiary storage for work related files)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
PSU: Corsair RM550x V2 80 Plus Gold fully modular
OS: Windows 11

All firmware, drivers and software have been updated to the current stable releases, no beta firmware/software is being used.

The PC was primarily purchased for work purposes only. As my kids are getting older and I have more time, we have been doing the odd gaming after upgrading the GPU to the Radeon 6700 XT in ealry 2022.
The three primary games of choice are the Master Chief Collection: Halo series, Halo Wars: Definitive Edition and Microsoft Flight Simulator. All games are stored on the secondary SSD as mentioned above and were purchased from the Microsoft Store.
I noticed my system starting to crash after recently ( in February 2023) purchasing and playing Microsoft Flight Simulator. Prior to this I had no issues with any of the Halo games. I could play any Halo game with high settings and unlimitied FPS, with no issue. Now, the PC seems to crash when any game is played for more than 10 minutes. I will get in-game stuttering, the PC will freeze and I have to manually restart the PC.
I have been monitoring the hardware via task manager and HWmonitor, not seeing anything out of the ordinary. There is no software over-utilising the CPU, GPU, it’s only the RAM that goes from 5-8GB when any game initially starts, blowing out to 32GB, before crashing.
I have stress tested the machine using Cinebench 23 and Heaven Benchmark 4.0, no issues. I don’t get the same RAM issues, even when stress testing with Heaven for over an hour. I can spend several hours working on the PC, logging into my employers virtual network, again no issues. There is no overheating of any components, even the CPU when stress tested doesn’t go above 75oC.
Other than purchasing Microsoft Flight Simulator, there is no new software on my PC and I have made no recent hardware upgrades.
I have stripped the PC down and reconnected all components, including the RAM and found no issues with the hardware.
When playing games, all other software is shutdown.

From research already done, these are the actions already undertaken without success:
  • Background apps - turned off, with the exception of several apps such as AV software
  • Antivirus - full system scan, nothing identified
  • Windows Memory Diagnostic - no issues identified
  • CHKDSK - no issues identified
  • Services - Disabled Windows Search Indexer (Windows Search)
  • Services - Disbaled Superfetch Service (SysMain)
  • Registry Edit - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\ClearPageFileAtShutdown changed to 1.

I'm after any and all help. All I want to do is play a few games in my down time. My system is more than capable playing these games. My last resort will be a full re-install of Windows, unless anyone has any suggestions.

Task Manager - prossesses organised by CPU usage after playing Halo CE for 16 mins

Howdy all, been doing some major spring cleaning and as such. Quickly realized that most of the people there wear t shirts and jeans, so I'm just purging the stuff that either doesn't fit, or I haven't worn in a couple years (or both). Some of the items have never been worn. For reference, I'm 5' 9" 175 lbs and usually wear between size 32 - 34 size pants depending on manufacturer.

2023.06.04 20:29 thaBUTLERdidIT Unmasking the Maddening Reasons: The Perpetual Cycle of Mobile App Updates

When the App Store first introduced the ability to download applications, developers typically released updates about three times a year. However, in today's fast-paced mobile landscape, it is not uncommon to see apps being updated four times a week. What drives this constant cycle of updates, and why have they become so frequent? In this blog, we will delve into the reasons behind the prevalence of app updates, examining studies, customer reviews, and insights from industry professionals to shed light on this phenomenon.
During the early years of the App Store, developers released updates relatively infrequently. Their primary purpose was to fix crashes and bugs, ensuring a smoother user experience. These updates were typically bundled with new features, enhancements, and occasional design changes.
Today the frequency of app updates has skyrocketed. Many apps require updates multiple times a week, and the developers' reasoning remains consistent: to address crashes and bugs. But why are there so many updates? To understand this, we can examine studies that compare the update frequency now with that of a decade ago.
Research indicates that the average number of updates per app has significantly increased over the past decade. One study found that in 2010, apps required an average of 1.4 updates per year. By 2020, that number had surged to approximately 20 updates per year.
Customer reviews often highlight the need for frequent updates. Users express frustration when they encounter crashes, glitches, or other issues that hinder their app experience. It is evident that developers strive to swiftly address these pain points, leading to frequent updates aimed at improving stability and functionality.
Interviews with app development companies provide valuable insights into the reasons behind constant updates. Developers stress the importance of maintaining compatibility with evolving operating systems and device hardware. As new iOS or Android versions are released, developers must ensure their apps remain compatible, requiring updates to incorporate the latest optimizations and changes.
Moreover, user feedback plays a significant role in driving updates. Developers actively listen to user suggestions, bug reports, and complaints, utilizing them to refine their apps. By regularly releasing updates, developers demonstrate their commitment to providing a seamless and reliable user experience.
While the primary reasons for frequent app updates revolve around bug fixes and compatibility, some theories have emerged to explain additional factors. One theory suggests that regular updates help boost app rankings in the App Store or Google Play, improving discoverability and visibility to potential users.
Another theory revolves around security. In an era of increasing cybersecurity threats, timely updates ensure that apps stay protected against vulnerabilities, reducing the risk of data breaches or unauthorized access.
The evolution of app updates has come a long way since the early days of the App Store. The need for frequent updates has been driven by the desire to fix crashes and bugs, adapt to changing operating systems, incorporate user feedback, and maintain security. With studies showcasing the significant increase in update frequency over the years, it is clear that developers strive to provide the best possible user experience through continuous improvement. So the next time you see an app update notification on your mobile device, remember that it's an effort by developers to enhance your app experience and keep up with the ever-changing mobile landscape.

2023.06.04 20:26 _mully_ Advice Please: How to install Ikea screws without stripping them?

How does one install Ikea screws without stripping them please? Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I have Adils legs and a couple of tabletops. I have a power drill with the right Philips drill bit and adjustable speed, AND a manual screwdriver that is Philips. I have tried both on multiple sets of the screws. Different speeds, pressures, by hand, etc. etc. Almost every single time the screws just completely bore out as soon as they hit resistance. I have never seen screws just melt into power like these do - are these even metal?
I am unable to assemble these tables because the screws are so ridiculously cheap.
Any tips or tricks please?
I have ordered real screws from a hardware store, but my delivery is not arriving until after the weekend unfortunately. So, I am considering trying to find a way to use the screws they came with, but I'll likely just wait until the third-party screws arrive.
It is unfortunate, as these are not my first tabletops from Ikea, but likely my last as they do not make as many varieties (or high qualities) of the larger tabletops anymore, and now these screws. What's the point of Ikea if it breaks putting it together? Even if it's the fasteners, I'm not keeping a collection of my own fasteners on hand for future Ikea projects. Considering the cost and lowering quality of some Ikea products, I'll just get some other brand and avoid the headache. Sorry for the rant at the end.
Thank you for the help and all. Much appreciated! Peace! :)

2023.06.04 20:10 throwaway1937573910 The absolute nightmare of a century house bathroom fan replacement continues...

This text will probably make a bit more sense if you view it in Imgur alongside the corresponding images:
https://imgur.com/gallery/auTmNd1
My house is 100+ years old. The previous bathroom fan burnt out, which generally would be an easy replacement...if it wasn't for the fact that our duct is so old they literally do not make fans in that diameter any more. It's 120mm, every single fan for sale is 110 or 125. Trust me, I tried REAL hard to make this fan fit in that duct. It wasn't gonna happen. But whatever, got a reducer, cut to size and screwed it in.
Now here's the problem...if I move the duct out of the way, the fan fits just fine into the ceiling. Got the holes predrilled for it and everything, as you can see. BUT when I stick the fan into the duct, it won't fit into the ceiling. I think the problem is that the duct is just too inflexible. Because the space is so small, the duct needs to turn at a hard angle that it just isn't capable of turning at. With the old fan it wasn't a problem because it was very short, but newer fans are longer, like this.
(Also, I can't use a duct clamp to close the duct against the fan, because there's too much of a size difference between the duct & the size reducer attached to the fan. I tried, and it just tore through the duct.)
So I was thinking of going back to the hardware store and seeing if I could get a super flexible piece of duct, attach THAT to the fan, and then attach it to the duct as well. But it'll be 125mm in size, so .5mm larger than my current duct. How do I attach the end of the larger flexible duct, to the old duct?
This is where it exits. No attic in this house, just a flat roof. Somehow there was a bunch of stuff coming out of the duct when I pulled it out of the ceiling a bit. It looked like...rocks or little bits of a tar. There were also a few dead snails in the old fan lol
Advice would be highly appreciated. I never thought I'd hate a piece of duct so much. I was wondering if I'd be best off just replacing the entire duct, but I've never done anything like that before. And I'm trying not to discover new "old house" issues right now, our budget is super tight at the moment. I just want a working bathroom fan :')

2023.06.04 19:20 EdvinasJ_LT Many questions about a home NAS

Hello everyone
I'm looking into building a NAS. I've tried my best to learn the current NAS meta, but I still have quite a few uncertainties.
The NAS would store computer and phone backups, personal files, family pictures and videos, and some movies/shows. I would like to host a VPN on it to allow access from outside the home network. Perhaps some home automation too later. I haven't decided on the final storage size (mostly because I have no idea how much space would I use), however WD Red plus drives all cost around 24€/TB from 4TB upwards.
What software is good for such setup? What filesystems? Everyone is praising ZFS, but people also say it's bad for expansion. Others say BTRFS is the new king. I really want to reduce the chances of bitrot or other corruptions. What about the number of drives? What is the sweet-spot for redundancy when one fails? How easy it is to spin the drives down after certain time of inactivity? What about cache SSDs? The NAS will be connected to gigabit initially, but it will never exceed 2.5G.
I would also like to have data backups or at least snapshots on the NAS itself as the first line of defense from accidental file corruption/deletion from the NAS. What solutions exist for that?
For external backups, I'd like to use hard drives (for the whole NAS) and BD-RE (only for small portion of files, not exceeding 1TB), instead of cloud. How easy is it to backup a large NAS? Are hot-swap bays for HDD backup drives a good idea? Or should backups be done over the network with a separate computer?
Would it be better partitioning movies and important data separately? What about setting certain directories as read-only? How easy would that be?
The hardest thing for me is the hardware. I would like to use my old R5 1600 and Asrock B350M-Pro4 as a base to save money. I've heard Asrock supports some ECC, how critical is it to use it?
Finally, the household has a few iPads and iPhones. Would it be a good idea to wait and see what new "freedoms" new EU regulations provide? I'd really like to replace iCloud on those devices with the NAS if Apple allows it.
Thanks for your time!
edit- What about a UPS? That might come in handy...
