2023.06.04 22:13 Maya_Helon Am I wrong for making my child stay fit?
I am 28 years old female ,with 2 children a 8 and 5 year old girls. Two days ago their grandmother came to visit us,this is where the problem begins. While I was cooking lunch, I didn't let the five-year-old take the chocolate that her grandmother brought so she would eat her lunch this was apparently heard by her grandmother, who told her that she was free to take it.Of course she happily took it and after that she didn't want lunch.Their grandmother (my mother-in-law) also didn't like that I "forced" them to exercise,I want my kids to be active so I (according to their grandmother) I make them walk and play sports,I am not a almond mom,I just want my kids to eat well and be active so I make sure that they move around during the day (e.g. ride a bike, rollerblade, go to the park or the 3 of us (me and my two daughters sometimes and their dad) go for a walk. She obviously didn't like that either, so every time I told them to go outside to play, she would(all of a sudden) remember to show/tell them something on her phone or tell them a story so that they wouldn't go outside. When I warned her about it, she started saying that I'm a bad mother because I don't let my children do what they want when they want and how she would do a lot better then me in my place. So Am I in the wrong?

2023.06.04 22:12 ThrowRA_lastmountain Was just a hit and run victim, both parties might be without insurance. Where do we go from here?
Last week, I was involved in a minor car accident. The vehicle failed to properly execute their turn into the lane beside me, hanging just out of their lane enough for our cars to side swipe each other. They parked behind me to allow traffic to pass, or so I thought, but they slipped out with the traffic as it went by; I looked behind me after waiting a split second to see no car!
I immediately pulled a u-turn to park in the closest parking lot, just across the street median so I was able to confirm with the long turn that the vehicle truly ran off instead of perhaps finding a better place to park.
A neighborhood app post led to the vehicle being found; The person who found it confirmed that it was the vehicle by giving details such as the damage appearing within the last couple days- when the crash happened.
Where I'm at now is calling the sheriff responsible for the report so he can add the plate to the report. When this happens, is filing a civil suit the best way to go, and if it is, what questions should I ask if I find an attorney? Is there actually a path to getting recourse and my car fixed?

2023.06.04 22:12 ThrowAway7s2 Vacation homes could be used for voluntary Indian land-back efforts
| This notice on facebook is from a church outside of Door County, but not far from it: from this past May The facebook notice was about this new program: http://www.revdrrebeccammvoelkel.com/blog/sacred-reckonings-reparations-for-white-churches Going through a pdf of the program, page 99 has this paragraph: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/62ea9b48c8b35b067c01b94a/t/6452792aa1ed9671555f5c0c/1683126587476/Sacred-Reckonings-2023-03.pdf#page=99 What more can we do to surrender ill-gotten wealth? If we have a line-item in our church’s budget, can we work with our denominational offices to support reparatory monetary action there? How can we support our members in land-back efforts, particularly for any vacation properties they might own? Can we support Indigenous efforts at land-back of public lands? If actually implemented, that would help solve Door County's gentrification problem. Overall it could help reduce speculation for all real estate in Door County. If buyers knew just how bad Native Americans had to be treated in order for their Door County real estate to someday be deeded to them, maybe they'd see a potential purchase as a liability or a necessary evil rather than a pecuniary investment. The program is from the "Center for Sustainable Justice", which belongs to Lyndale United Church of Christ in Minneapolis: http://www.lyndaleucc.org/justice/ "Sustainable Justice" is a topic discussed online, but I have not heard it promoted for Door County. I wonder if the current dialog about sustainability will someday more shift to sustainable justice. The state's WISH Fertility Module says that in 2020, Door County had an 51.1 aged-adjusted fertility rate of births per 1,000 women from the ages of 15 to 44 years. Since the new program discusses Indians it seems useful to compare Door County to Menominee County, since the county has the same borders as the Menominee Indian Tribe. Menominee County had an aged adjusted fertility rate of 100.5 births per 1,000 women from the ages of 15 to 44 years. Multiplying both of these county figures by 0.03 to convert them to total fertility rates, this means that Door County has a total fertility rate of 1.533, while Menominee County has a total fertility rate of 3.015 births. I plugged both figures into a population simulator: https://www.learner.org/wp-content/interactive/envsci/demographics/demog.html Using the defaults for "USA", it says that the 2020 total fertility rates will, annually, cause a 1.10% natural loss in Door County's population and a 1.57% natural gain in Menominee County's population. Because the replacement total fertility rate is 2.1 births per average woman's lifetime (roughly what the US was in 1971 and 1972), it follows that, demographically, Menominee County is sustainable, while Door County is not. Besides this, so many end up leaving Door County as adults. This trend seems to be going down, which could reflect declining opportunities in the metro areas which draw population from Door County: https://www.reddit.com/DoorCountyALT/comments/11dx5nz/door_county_is_experiencing_a_net_loss_of_fewe Yet it is unrealistic to expect out-migration to go away, especially since out-migration has going on over much of the last century. So Door County's actual replacement rate is somewhat higher than 2.1 lifetime births. Yet the 1.533 figure from 2020 is a move in the wrong direction. The WISH fertility module gives figures going back to the 1990 census, when Door County's total fertility rate was 1.905 lifetime births. Is the new program from Center for Sustainable Justice connected to Door County? Sort of. But from what I found looking on the internet, it seems that the connection between the Center for Sustainable Justice's new program and Door County is weak and indirect. Some years back the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Conference of the United Churches of Christ submitted an item for vote, https://www.wcucc.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Doctrine-of-Discovery-Resolution-as-passed-2019.04.12.pdf, which was then approved by the Wisconsin Conference: https://www.wcucc.org/justice-ministries/racial-justice/doctrine-of-discovery-study-resources/. It included these parts: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Wisconsin Conference of the United Church of Christ joins with its ecumenical partners to explore ways to compensate American Indians, Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians for the lands and resources that were stolen and are still being stolen and which are now the United States of America. & BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Wisconsin Conference of the United Church of Christ encourages the churches to explore educational materials, such as those developed by Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) and the Council of American Ministry (CAIM), and to pursue actions that may arise from their studies. Besides setting the tone, the phrase "encourages the churches to explore educational materials" is broad enough to include the yet-to-be developed program from Lyndale UCC's Center for Sustainable Justice. Note that the Congregationalist polity poses barriers to the flow of authority. The WCUCC may have had some other ideas about the educational materials to be used. Bret Bicoy was on the WCUCC Board of Directors back when this was submitted and approved. He was not yet the Chair, as he is now, or Vice-Chair, as he was not long ago; he was just an ordinary director like the others. He may have voted either for or against it, or abstained, I don't know. Bicoy is in charge of the Door County Community Foundation and writes about philanthropy in the Peninsula Pulse. Some of the things he oversees involves worthy causes which make it easier to raise a family in Door County. His work influences various small factors, which in turn help with the demographic problem. The program reminds me of Matthew 19:16-24: And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Yet the program is different in that it incorporates jargon usually used by Marxist theorists and not in Christian writings. It is a blend of different influences. Although it was not produced by the UCC itself, the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries website employs similar word choices: https://www.ucc.org/repairing-the-breach/. It seems that the new program is in line with the UCC and is not the product of a dissenting faction. submitted by ThrowAway7s2 to DoorCountyALT [link] [comments] |

2023.06.04 22:11 chug-a-lug-donna grammy test
Hello, and welcome to Music’s Biggest Night! That’s right, it’s the GRAMMYs. The year is 1994 and our category is Best Alternative Music Album. We’ll be rating each of the five nominees on Indieheads, but before we get to the nominees, a quick word about rates.
Hey, quick question, what are rates? Obviously, if you're familiar with the process, skip this. But if you're new, I'll explain so this doesn't seem like a wild block of text!
Rates are a subreddit game in which a user scores a group of songs on a scale from 1-10, with each individual also given a single 11 and a single 0 to be used exactly once per rate. They will then message their ballot to the rate host, who will tally up all the points and then reveal the final results over a weekend, eliminating songs one by one until the last track remaining wins the rate and bragging rights forever. While there's just a bit more to know, I feel this is the basics of what you'll need to understand what's going on. I do recommend this video made by our popheads brethren to get a fuller picture; while some of the info applies specifically to the way popheads do their rates, the overall format is similar.
Introduction The GRAMMYs are awards presented by The Recording Academy of the United States to recognize outstanding achievements in the music industry. The name derives from the trophy, which is shaped like an old-fashioned gramophone. The awards celebrate a variety of categories, but we’re going to be looking at Best Alternative Music Album or, as it was called at the time, Best Alternative Music Performance. The question of what “alternative” really means can be debated forever, but the original intent of this award was to celebrate non-mainstream rock albums which were heavily played on college radio. The category first appeared in 1991, so in 1994 the award is still pretty new.
And now, let’s meet our nominees!
Belly - Star Belly are the act here that seem least often discussed on Indieheads, so I’m excited to see what everyone thinks of them. By the time of starting Belly, Tanya Donelly (lead vocals and rhythm guitar) had already been in two other classic indie rock bands. She was a co-founder of Throwing Muses with her step-sister Kristin Hersch, contributing vocals and guitar for the band’s first decade, though she’d only get a handful of songs per album. Donelly would later start The Breeders with Pixies bassist and vocalist Kim Deal. The Breeders’ debut, Pod, featured Deal as the primary songwriter because existing record contracts prohibited the two from sharing primary writing credits. While they originally intended to alternate albums, Tanya had begun to form Belly by the time it was her turn to do a Breeders album. She recruited Fred Abong (bass) and brothers Tom (guitar) and Chris (drums) Gorman as they’d all known each other while going to high school in Rhode Island.
Belly co-produced most of their 1993 debut Star with Tracy Chisholm. Gil Norton, who’d previously produced Throwing Muses’ self-titled debut, produced four tracks, including singles “Gepetto,” “Slow Dog,” and “Feed the Tree.” “Feed the Tree,” one of the album’s highlights, would be the band’s highest charting hit, reaching 95th on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Modern Rock Chart. Star is an effective fusion of alternative rock with jangle pop, dream pop, “haunting” folk, and even some light country influences. At the 1994 GRAMMYs, Belly were also up for Best New Artist with Blind Melon, Digable Planets, and SWV, ultimately losing to R&B singer Toni Braxton. Belly released a sophomore album King in 1995 and Donelly released several solo albums before reuniting with the King lineup to release a third album in 2018. While Star may not have achieved the canonical stature of some of 1994’s other nominees, it is nevertheless a very enjoyable release from a strong songwriter who’d finally gotten the chance to make an album-length statement of her own.
Are Indieheads gonna feed the tree? Will this be an album to die for?

Nirvana - In Utero If you were wondering where “Heart Shaped Box” was in the Guitar Hero Rate, well I’ve got a treat for you!
Kurt Cobain (vocals and guitar) and Krist Novoselic (bass) met while attending Aberdeen High School in the late 1980s. They shuffled through various names, ultimately deciding on Nirvana because Cobain wanted a name that sounded beautiful and nice instead of mean and raunchy. In their early years, they worked with several different drummers, recording 1989’s Sub Pop debut Bleach with Chad Channing on drums. Channing left the band as they worked on their follow-up to Bleach. Kurt and Krist met drummer Dave Grohl days after he’d moved to Seattle following the break up of his Washington DC band Scream. The addition of Dave solidified Nirvana’s classic lineup. The trio began seeking a major label to buy them out of their Sub Pop contract as they were dissatisfied with the label’s lack of promotion and distribution of their debut. They eventually signed with DGC Records per the recommendation of Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon. Upon signing, they began work on their major label debut, Nevermind, with producer Butch Vig. 1991’s Nevermind was an unexpected success, bringing grunge and alternative rock to the mainstream and even surpassing Michael Jackson on the Billboard albums chart.
In the aftermath of Nevermind’s success, Cobain felt he needed to reclaim his punk ethic. Wanting to depart from Butch Vig’s slick production on Nevermind (don’t worry, we’ll still be hearing from Vig a little later), he sought to work with Steve Albini. Albini was pretty famous in the underground for his work as frontman for Big Black and various production work, including PJ Harvey’s Dry, which he sent a copy of to give Cobain an idea of the acoustics in his studio. Albini dismissed Nirvana as "R.E.M. with a fuzzbox" (more on R.E.M. soon!) but decided to work with them because he felt bad for them, recognizing them as "the same sort of people as all the small-fry bands I deal with." The band pushed for minimal label oversight and recorded In Utero fairly quickly, wrapping recording sessions in as little as 13 days. The album was noisier and more abrasive than Nevermind, resulting in much dispute between the band, Albini, and the label. Cobain sought to make the kind of record he’d enjoy owning as a fan and began having second thoughts about the sound when listening to it at home. The press picked up on conflict about the album’s sound. The band denied this and even DGC president David Geffen called Newsweek to explain they would release whatever Nirvana recorded. Behind the scenes, the band tried to fix the album’s sound in the mastering process, which Albini was strongly against, though he’d later supply an alternate mix for the album’s 20th anniversary re-release. R.E.M producer Scott Litt was brought on to remix “Heart Shaped Box” and “All Apologies” which were intended to be the album’s singles.
In Utero was released in September of 1993 following a low-key release strategy which released “Heart Shaped Box” as a promo-only single to various rock station formats but not Top 40. Walmart and K-Mart initially refused to stock the album due to its back cover and the title of the song “Rape Me.” (A content note on that song, while it is interpreted as commentary on the invasive music press, it was intended to be a lyrically literal anti-rape song from the perspective of a victim. As this is a rate, you can score this song however you see fit, but I hope it goes without saying that everyone should please be respectful of this subject matter in their comments.) Despite In Utero’s abrasive sound and reduced mainstream promotion, the album still debuted at number one on the Billboard album charts and was well-received by critics. The music often hits harder and faster than Nevermind, containing more of the “punk” feel that Cobain was aiming for compared to the grunge of Nevermind and the band’s Seattle contemporaries. Check out this MTV clip if you’d like to see how college students in 1993 received this one. (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiwhwy7S4qA) The band toured America shortly after In Utero came out and embarked on a European tour that was cut short as Cobain suffered from a drug overdose. A couple weeks later, Cobain died by suicide. As with the subject matter of “Rape Me,” I want to request that everyone is respectful of this in their comments, I will ask for edits (or omit comments myself) if they are inappropriate. Despite the tragic ending, Nirvana is still seen as one of American and alternative rock’s most important bands and In Utero remains highly regarded to this day.
Will our comments be all apologies? Are the results of this rate gonna be, uhhh, dumb?

R.E.M. - Automatic for the People If there’s a band who can rival Nirvana’s stature in the American rock canon, it’s gotta be R.E.M. They are often cited as one of the first “alternative” rock bands and were important for the college radio format. Formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980, Michael Stipe (vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass), and Bill Berry (drums) released 5 albums with independent label I.R.S. Records, evolving from a jangle rock sound on their early albums to a louder, more anthemic sound on their final record for the label, Document. After “The One I Love” became their first mainstream hit, the band signed to Warner Brothers, kicking off a second act that resulted in yet another 5 album run of great music.
At the start of the 90s, R.E.M. opted out of touring and became a studio band. The band recorded demos for the songs “Drive,” “Try Not to Breathe,” and “Nightswimming” at Prince’s Paisley Park Studios while mixing their 1991 album, Out of Time. Out of Time was a huge success, arriving as alternative rock was becoming mainstream. It spawned the massive single “Losing My Religion” and even ended up winning the GRAMMY award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1992. After concluding some promotional duties in early 1991, the band returned to the studio to continue work on what would eventually become Automatic for the People. This would be the fourth of six records the band would produce with Litt. The band traded off instruments in the studio, with Buck playing the mandolin famously featured on “Losing My Religion,” Mills playing piano or organ, and Berry playing bass. Their initial attempts to make a harder rocking follow-up did not pan out, as the band found they were writing better without drums. The material began to take on a more melancholic tone. The lush orchestration of Out of Time is rendered in a somber greyscale, with arrangements contributed by Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. Lyrically, the album muses on loss and mourning, prompting rumors that recently balding Michael Stipe was dying of cancer or AIDs. Luckily, he was not but that is the lens through which some critics and listeners received this work. The album also finds room for political commentary, most noticeably in “Ignoreland” which pushes against Republican politics of the time, but also in opener “Drive” which calls back to the group’s work with the Rock to Vote movement, for which they added a petition on the longbox packaging of Out of Time.
Automatic for the People released on October 5, 1992 (gotta love the GRAMMYs odd eligibility window) debuting at number 2 on the Billboard 200. Unlike its predecessor, it never quite reached the top spot, thanks to Garth Brooks. Six of the album’s 12 tracks were released as singles including “Drive,” “Everybody Hurts” which has unfortunately been watered down through years of ironic use in comedies, the cryptic, Andy Kaufman referencing “Man on the Moon,” and “Nightswimming,” an emotional piano ballad that has become a fan favorite. The album was critically acclaimed upon release and, while perhaps not as fun as something like Murmur, this nocturnal bummer is regarded by many as one of the band’s masterpieces.

Tracklist: Drive Try Not to Breathe The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite Everybody Hurts New Orleans Instrumental No. 1 Sweetness Follows Monty Got a Raw Deal Ignoreland Star Me Kitten Man on the Moon Nightswimming Find the River
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream The Smashing Pumpkins formed in 1988 when Billy Corgan (vocals and guitar, he prefers William Patrick Corgan now though) met James Iha (guitar) while working at a record store in Chicago, Illinois. They performed as a duo with a drum machine, eventually adding bassist D’arcy Wretzky after meeting her at a show by the Dan Reed Network. Jazz drummer Jimmy Chamberlain was recommended by a friend of Corgan’s after the trio were booked to perform at Cabaret Metro under the condition that they’d play with a live drummer instead of their drum machine. With Chamberlain on board, the band’s classic lineup had been formed and their sound began to shift in a harder rock direction.
Siamese Dream, the group’s 1993 sophomore album, expands on their 1991 debut Gish in every possible way. The band switched from Virgin subsidiary Caroline Records to Virgin itself. Butch Vig, who produced Nirvana’s massive Nevermind right after finishing work on Gish, returned to produce the follow-up. Where Gish’s $20,000 budget and month of recording time was “unprecedented” for Vig, Corgan and Vig spent four months on Siamese Dream and went $250,000 over budget. This is what happens when you let Billy overdub everyone else’s guitar and bass parts (something the rest of the band wasn’t particularly happy about) to get as many as 100 guitar parts compressed into one song.
The meticulous studio process paid off, as Siamese Dream was a bigger hit than Gish (peaking at 10 on the Billboard 200.) The band’s influences from metal, dreampop, and shoegaze give the album a layered and unique sound compared to the grungier alternative music of the time. Singles “Cherub Rock” and “Today” have been featured in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band videogame series. While never released as a single, “Mayonaise” has become a fan favorite and won a Rolling Stone poll for best Pumpkins song, beating out singles from Siamese Dream and the band’s follow-up double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Judging from some early discussion since this rate was announced, some of you seem pretty excited to rate “Mayonnaise.” While Mellon Collie took the band to the height of their popularity, Siamese Dream is often regarded as their masterpiece and one of the best rock albums of the 90s.

U2 - Zooropa Formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1976, U2 (Bono on vocals, The Edge on guitar, Adam Clayton on bass, and Larry Mullen Jr. on drums) have become the top-selling Irish musical act of all-time, with an estimated 170+ million records sold. Across the 80s, U2 evolved their early post-punk sound to the anthemic rock of The Joshua Tree. While touring America for that album, the band recorded Rattle and Hum, a hybrid live/studio record (and accompanying concert film) which documented the tour and the group’s fascination with American roots music. Despite the album’s commercial success, most consider it a misguided failure. Even Bono admitted at their final show for the album’s Lovetown Tour that “we have to go away and dream it all up again.”
1993’s Zooropa catches U2 at their most adventurous. 1991’s Acthung Baby and its subsequent Zoo TV tour rebranded the band for the new decade. While they continued working with Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, they updated their sound with influences from electronic, dance, and industrial music. On stage, they dabbled in irony to counter the sincerity of their 80s output with Bono playing characters such as The Fly and Macphisto. Emboldened by the critical and commercial success of this album and tour, they began working on a promotional EP during a break between Zoo TV tour legs. Despite working quickly in the studio, this EP expanded into a full-length album, requiring the band to travel between concerts and the studio in Dublin to finish working on the album during the first month of the “Zooropa” leg.
Zooropa finally arrived in July of 1993 and it shows the band doubling down on their early 90s ideas. The sound of the album, built from loops of soundcheck jamming and leftover sketches from Achtung Baby, ventures even further from traditional rock instrumentation and songwriting, bolstered by production from Brian Eno, Flood (moving from an engineering to production role), and The Edge, credited as a producer for his first time. The fragmented nature of the album’s production is reflected in the eclectic tracklist which bounces between the multi-movement art-rock of the title track, dancefloor fillers like “Daddy’s Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car,” and ballads like “For the First Time” and “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” Unique vocal choices like The Edge’s spoken-word rapping on lead-single “Numb,” Bono’s falsetto on “Lemon,” and a Johnny Cash feature on closer “The Wanderer” help the album feel more varied than U2’s previous material. The album’s lyrics often examine Zoo TV’s concepts of “sensory overload” and technology more explicitly than Achtung Baby.
While U2 are reluctant to acknowledge Zooropa now (likely influenced by the failure of 1997’s Pop, a rushed, mixed bag of an album that stretched audience’s tolerance for 90s U2’s tendency toward electronic music and irony to a Rattle and Hum-like breaking point) the album was successful when it came out. Zooropa debuted at number one in several countries and finished ninth on 1993’s Pazz and Jop poll. It would also go on to win this GRAMMY award for Best Alternative Music album, with Bono shrugging on stage, shouting out Smashing Pumpkins, and promising to “the young people of America” that they will “continue to abuse our position and fuck up the mainstream” in his acceptance speech. 2023.06.04 22:10 Tijai This is getting painful
Game 1 - Find a nice spot in Lansen bushed up - Moron in an M103 parks up right behind me so I cant retreat. He saw me get a few nice shots in and decided he wanted that position
Game 2 - Lorr 40t, find another nice position, then 2 more turn up to the same spot - I mean WTF?? use your brain, look for crossfires or something. Other side of map gets steamrolled and I get a lovely (not) message because they think a 40t should be aggressively pushing their flank lol
Game 3 Mountain pass - EVERYONE goes one flank so ok I'll stay back on the valley and shoot at those coming in as someone has to be there or they are straight on cap. Luckily (or so I thought) 2 heavies come my way and push down into the valley. They both lose nearly all health fighting on corner and I repeatedly ask them to fall back to bring another gun in (mine) Nope they are going to sit there and trade a BZ and friends on the corner with about 100 health each. Words fail me. I run back and the other 12 players on team have been wiped.
Getting more than a bit jaded now...
Game 4 - OK, lost as heavies all melted but ..ok. Was even a semblance of teamwork with a Leo at the end. I'll take it.
Game 5 - Lost tank due to some weird server desync BS. Lansen suddenly decided that it cant go backwards behind a hill. I mean I'm pressing S but 'NO' says the server 'Its your turn to die'. This stuff is happening more and more these days.
Game 6 - I failed miserably. Think that's the sign to give up for now. Was dumb. Died. All me.
No.. one more game.
Game 7 - Whats the point having 2 Bz's if they are going to snipe from behind a rock all game? Nah I'm done ...maybe.

So I am trying to win in the game of parenting & make all my kids’ dreams come true. I therefore need some intel from Auckland folks and I thank anyone in advance for assisting in entertaining my mania.
Taylor Swift is bringing her massive Eras tour down under.
Hopefully she comes to Auckland.
Hopefully we get tickets.
It’s all very dicey.
If she played in Auckland she needs the biggest stadium available which would be Eden Park.
Surely there are some rumours out there about Eden Park being booked out for a massive act?
I want the gossip.
What other events are held at Eden Park? When does Super Rugby start? Ed Sheeran was there weekend of 11th Feb this year (my daughter turns 16 on 11/2/24) so am I dreaming that the same weekend would make GREAT Taylor concert dates for 2024?
Jesus,…….I sound possessed.
I just can’t believe there are no leaks of intel out there…..!?!

2023.06.04 22:09 Impossible_Eye_3425 Omg a small ray of hope...now the long uphill battle begins
So I found a place!!!! I can bring Brian out of that deathtrap nursing home. Btw he is up to over 7 bed sores in about 7 weeks..he had 0 going into this shitty facility. I cannot get him home right away cause I gotta figure out how to get a wheelchair, hospital bed, home health aide, physical therapy, etc ... Any suggestions on what steps I need to take as Brian has Medicare plus he is in a medicaid pending bed and the medicaid app was sent on may 7. But I've heard nothing yet. I'm in Texas city, Galveston county. I'm totally a fish outta water when it comes to medicaid and all the different areas I may need in I don't wanna let him down, he's been so patient And understanding and so loving.
Btw if you ever have simeone you love have to go to a nursing home, never ever use Seabreeze nursing in Texas city. The horror pics I could post...
Thank you guys for any advice 😃

2023.06.04 22:09 financeprocastinator High Downpayment for newbie investors with High Income & High Savings - good idea?
Posting here as the post is getting banned from personalfinance. Please lmk if this is not allowed here or suggest any other subreddits to post in.
I (28M) and GF (28F) wish to buy a house to live in once the current lease ends and want to start the pre-approval process.
A bit of background.
Income (excluding interests & dividends): Me: $205k/year. GF: $225k a year.
House:
The kind of houses we want to buy are around 550k but we are willing to stretch it to 650k.
Savings:
It's only 1-1.5 years since we got almost 100% bumps after switching jobs (same industry). While fortunately, we haven't fallen into lifestyle creep yet (we hope we keep it that way), we feel terrible and stupid that we have been just parking all the money in a checking account losing its value to inflation and wasting an opportunity to make it grow partly due to having no idea what to do and partly procrastination.
I have about $35k in my 401k (started really late). I used to have around $115k in my checking account but after discovering the personalfinance Reddit sub a couple of months ago, I put $70k in an HYSA at 4%, and $40k in some blue-chip stocks & ETFs on Robinhood before figuring out what to do with it.
Over the last 5 years, I sent around $200k back to my account in my home country for my dad to make investments in my name as it wasn't decided if I would stay in the US permanently. He invested around $100k in Index funds and $100k in long-term mutual funds under my name which he says I should treat as a part of my retirement fund. But after my decision to stay in the US permanently, he says I should not make any further investments in my home country and I should learn how to invest in the US. It's also better that way for diversification and currency fluctuation as well.
GF has around $150k in 401k and about $200k in an HYSA paying 4% interest.
Debts & Expenses: We share a car that I bought a year ago for $35k (still owe 20k. $550/month for 4 years), but the APY is 1.75%, so I haven't paid it off as I am getting more than what we'd save in the HYSA.
Our monthly expenses are around $2500-3000 each including rent, utilities& leisure while our take-home pay is around $9.5k-$10k each (after maxing out 401k).
Questions: My credit score is around 780 while my GF's is 800. I am guessing even with a high score and a low Debt-to-Income ratio, the best mortgage rate we'd get would be around 6.5% in today's market. Please correct me if I am wrong here.
We're both engineers and do not have any experience with investing and finance. We were wondering if it'd be a good idea to make a significant downpayment from our HYSA (30-50%) or make big payments towards the principal to lower the interest payments since we are naive at investing. This also frees us from the investment analysis paralysis partly due to the fear of having a large sum to invest which makes us more afraid to get our feet wet in water.
After the downpayment, we could slowly learn and invest slowly in the market in small amounts from the money from our next paychecks.
Theoretically, we know it's a bad idea since in the longer run, the stock market always pays more than what you'd save in mortgage interest, but we are not sure if that's for everyone, especially for people like us who are newbies to investing. And considering current high-interest rates, is it worth taking that risk on the stock market beating guaranteed savings of mortgage interest of 6.5%?
Are there better alternatives or suggestions in our case? I know the initial few years on a mortgage is where most of the interest goes due to the nature of amortization. So was wondering if it's wise to play it safe and cut that down.

2023.06.04 22:09 signedexhausted Lovely cashier surprised me with a complimentary bouquet at check out!
| We struck up a conversation about what hair products she uses, and then as I was walking out, I noticed these flowers that I did not pick up, peeking out of my bag. I was about to turn back and return them, when I realized I was never charged for it. Hope this is ok, and that she doesn’t get in trouble for such a nice gesture. 2023.06.04 22:08 slabonurknob What should I set my rate at?
I am not sure how much to charge for the following - I received this information from a family I will potentially be part time nannying for. I am meeting with them in a few days and would like to have a rate prepared prior. Thank you in advance! —- “Our daughter is enrolled in a summer camp M-F, 9 AM-3 PM. I am pregnant and due at the end of the summer, so I will especially need help when my husband is working and I am having a challenging day.
We will require assistance 3-4 days a week but are very flexible. On the days our daughter attends camp, we would appreciate it if you could come over around 1 or 1:30 PM to help with dinner preparation, pick her up from camp before 3 PM, and engage in activities with her until 5 or 5:30 PM.
On the days when she does not go to camp, we would like you to arrive in the late morning and stay for as long as you prefer. During these days, we would love to establish a comfortable relationship with you where you could take her to places such as the zoo, park, or engage in other outdoor activities. Additionally, I would like to arrange playdates with her friends periodically on these days, so there may be 1-2 additional girls present.” —- Thoughts: -The family lives 20 minutes away from me, and I will be driving the child from her camp to their house, so I’m not sure if I should factor in some sort of mileage charge for that? -If I am expected to help prepare for dinner would that add on to what my hourly rate would be for just normal nannying? -I live in a MCOL area, am a recent college graduate, and have usually been charging $20/hr for one child

2023.06.04 22:07 reluctantdonkey CA Civil Court (DVRO) Exhibit Before Trial?
I requested a DVRO. It was denied. I sent it to another DV org and had it looked over by the police. They believe because I used screen grabs as supporting evidence that didn't have sufficient date/time stamps.
I want to file the full .txt transcripts with date and time stamps as supporting documentation prior to trial (I have time to meet the 5 day requirement.)
- Do I do that as an "exhibit" via efile?
- Can I include SMS, Facebook Messenger, and emails with timestamps on one exhibit?
- Do I need to "serve" that in any way (eg: the trial stuff I had to hire a process server to hand-serve.)
- I now have two police reports pending-- one that is still in "report" stage and another that has been forwarded to the district attorney with recommendation of charges. I would like to wait and bring those to trial in triplicate, vs efile them now, in case anything is added or changes before trial. Will they be admissable?
I am also going to call the county self-help desk Monday.
Thank you!

2023.06.04 22:07 Vanamond3 I will have sympathy for the homeless when the motherfuckers stop scattering trash around my neighborhood and threatening me.
I know we're all supposed to sympathize and excuse their behavior because they're down on their luck, but let me tell you what it's like to live someplace where they are common.
These assholes dig through dumpsters and the stuff they don't want they just scatter on the ground and leave for someone else to clean up. In my town everyone has to lock up their fucking garbage with enclosures or pad locks to prevent these messes.
The trash the homeless do want they take back to their camp sites and pile up by the side of the road. They never use any of it because they're demented hoarders. They just pile it up making breeding places for bugs and rats. Then when they move on do you think they collect all that shit and put it back in receptacles? Fuck no, they leave it for someone else to clean up again. It's by the side of the road, it's in the hedges along the road, it's on the sidewalks so you have to walk around it.
And it's fuck near impossible to get the god damned authorities to do anything about it all because they're afraid of seeming to be mean to the poor, innocent homeless, so these people just keep trashing our neighborhoods and no one will make them leave or clean their messes up. We had this one guy who would pass out on the sidewalk with his pants down around his ankles and it took over a week to get anyone from the city to respond to that.
Think I'm being too harsh? I have had these insane bastards threaten me with violence four times while I was just walking around my own god damned neighborhood. For a while they were putting their tents on the sidewalk and not letting anyone pass. Police only FINALLY responded to that when parents complained that the fucking bums were not letting children walk to school in the mornings. They've killed plants at the park by pulling limbs off of bushes to make larger places to sleep. They've damaged buildings and burned down road side trees with camp fires that got out of control.
And today I discovered yet another camp site and tried to report it, except the fucking online report form is not working. It takes 6 months or more to get a response to these god damned complaint forms at the best of times but now I can't even file one of the fucking things. The last time some bastard set up camp on this spot it took TWO FUCKING YEARS to get the authorities to chase his ass out of there, by which time the trash he was collecting made two piles each the size of a min-van.
I'm sorry they're in the state they're in, but that shouldn't give them the right to fuck things up for everyone else.

2023.06.04 22:06 Nataliabayeva A Guide To Getting A Marriage License
Original post you can find on
Wedding Forward What Do You Need To Have To Get A Marriage License? There are certain things you need to apply for a marriage license. But before that, let us set some facts straight. If you’re considering getting married somewhere, you should know this. You may not be easily granted a marriage if you’re underage. There can’t be a marriage if you are not legally divorced.
If it’s a place where same-sex marriage isn’t allowed, you won’t get a license. Lastly, you won’t be easily granted a permit in most places, if you’re related by blood.
The best place to do that is the location where you’re getting married. For instance, a marriage license in NYC is best obtained from the county clerk’s office. Other places are the town hall or City Hall. You can also call the local government office or browse the website for information.
Many states have the option of filling out their application online. They can go pick it in person after they submit their documentation.
The things you need include:
- Photo ID: A driver’s license or passport will do.
- Proof of residency or citizenship of the country.
- Birth certificate to find out that you are eligible for marriage age.
- Death certificate if widowed.
- Divorce decree if divorced.
- The court or parental consent in some countries, if underage.
Steps Of Procuring A Marriage License You cannot get married until 24 hours after the license gets issued. You can only upturn this if you get a waiver from the court. Again, a wedding license lasts for only 60 days, which begins to count, a day after it’s approved. For the military, they have up to 180 days, due to deployments.
You can only marry in the state where you have rightly issued a license. The waiting time before you get a license is 1-6 days. A non-impediment certificate is well required for a destination wedding. This is proof that you have no legal issues in your country. It is valid for 6 months.
Now, the steps:
Go to the town clerk’s office to fill out an application. You and your spouse must be present with the following documents.
- Name.
- Resident address
- State, city, and zip code.
- Country of birth and birth certificate
- Name and country of parents
- Social security number.
- Presentation of Gonorrhea, HIV, and other STI-free certificates. This is against blood tests initially asked for in the United States. You can also fill it online but you will complete the process at the office. This is after presenting your documents.
Pay the marriage application fee of $35. This is how much it costs to get a license in NY. In other places, it goes up to $115. The city clerk only receives either a money order or a credit card.
Receive a marriage license when the application is complete.
Apply for a judicial waiver. This is optional.
Turn it in and register after the wedding.

2023.06.04 22:06 ilovefuninpink Just finished 7 day Inside Passage on Koningsdam - AMA
Great cruise with above average weather - 4 sunny days out of 7 with spectacular weather in Skagway and Glacier Bay National Park. Overall, we loved the cruise and the ship design. Port of Vancouver was well organized - especially for debarkation. Embarkation was slow - boo US customs pre-clearance - be more like Canada!
The White Pass rail excursion was amazing. In other ports we mostly sought out Breweries and Distilleries. Be sure to visit Uncharted Distillery in Ketchikan!
Along the way we saw Humpback Whales, Orcas, Bald Eagles, and 100's of Sea Otters all from the ship.

2023.06.04 22:06 goofygoober400 Moving To Alpharetta Area Soon, Looking For Apartment Reccomendations
Hi everyone, my girlfriend and I recently graduated from university and she just got a job in Alpharetta so we are looking to move to the area. We’re open to some of the surrounding area but would prefer not going too far north of Alpharetta since we still want to be somewhat close to Atlanta. Preferably within a 30 minute commute to downtown Alpharetta. Looking for 1 bedroom apartments at or under $1600/month (open to 2 bedroom as I work from home but I know that’s a hard ask for the price range). Some places we are currently considering in no particular order are
• Chattahoochee Ridge Apartments • Cortland Holcomb Bridge • The Lodge on the Chattahoochee • Seven Pines • Park Trace • Harbor Pointe • The Addison at Sandy Springs
I know most of these aren’t in Alpharetta but was hoping you guys could still offer some help. We are open to new suggestions of course and will be touring places this upcoming weekend. Thanks for any help!

2023.06.04 22:05 KeeperOfCarl Acadia NP, Maine
Last summer my bf (now fiance) and I camped at Acadia National Park and he proposed on our first hike! We're getting married this year, and I would love to find a perfume that reminds me of how wonderful coastal Maine smells. A few key scents I remember are are sea salt, blueberry, rose, and a sweet pine undertone to everything. I joked on our trip if I could bottle up the scent, I could die happy, it was so dreamy!
