2023.06.04 23:31 akinworld I [17M] have had a crush on her [17F] for way too long

(TL;DR AT BOTTOM) Background: I liked F (my crush) since the sixth grade, but it faded for a bit. I was a bit of a social outcast at my school prior to Freshman year as well, but I had a lot of friends. Cue freshman year. Freshman year was pretty awesome for me to be honest. At this point, I had become extremely close with another guy who we can call Chris. Me and Chris would often hang out on zooms together, do assignments together with some of our other friends and so on. F and Chris were both in my science class. I didn't really have feelings for F, but I knew something was there. I slightly admired her, but that was the last thing on my mind at the time. Chris and I usually sat together in science class, but just before the quarantines and COVID, I was away from school for a week. I know that during that period, F had a light crush on Chris and she and him became friends. As soon as I would have gone back, quarantines were slammed atop out heads.
As me, Chris, and my other friends enjoyed the extra screen time together, things were about to take a turn. See, after eighth grade, tutor groups don't exist anymore. This means you're assigned a class by sets in a subject. Ex. Set 1 Math is the most capable at math and Set 4 Math is the least capable at math. This meant that the only time Chris and I were in the same class was for two lessons, one of those being Science with F. One science lesson, the teacher accidentally left the google meet running as he left, which gave us an open space to sit around. The entire class was in the meet, but they all slowly started leaving. All that remained was me, Chris, F (who had a crush on Chris), and two other girls. Me and Chris were originally the only ones talking, but everyone started to join in. At that moment, I knew there was something about F that meant something to me. But I didn't understand what. Over time, the five of us became really good friends and we all played Minecraft together. That would be my demise, as I quickly became attracted to F again. It was instant, I didn't stand a chance. We didn't talk much alone, but when we did, I found myself freezing up, scared to talk. I only really felt slightly confident talking to her in private chat rather than in a call. Even then, I was horrendous at talking to girls, so I failed miserably most times. This cycle continued, and eventually our group changed slightly. The only original members were me, F and Chris. Along came F's friend (call her Flora) and Chris' friend (call him Henry). I had become comfortable around these four and it seemed like things were going my way. I was talking to Henry on our group chat late at night about my loneliness and how it felt really nice to have people that actually cared about me as a result of the garbage that happened before and F read all of it. In the morning she told me she read it and I felt jumpy, but I was kind of glad that she knew. It was comforting in a way. Eventually, this led to us going on a zoom call at around 3 in the morning and talking to each other. She confided in me and vented to me about something personal to her that was hurting her and, as much as I tried to console her, I could tell she just wanted to vent. When we left the call, she texted me that she loved me and told me goodnight. I don't think I had been happier until that point. I left her a short, and sweet message about how much she meant to me and I told her I loved her too.
Since then, we'd become really close. I assume I still had a piece of my naive self in my soul, but basically she sort of nudged me to take her to prom, but I didn't read it correctly. Obviously, all of this made Chris pretty pissed and jealous, and it was easy to tell. This is where things sort of just start going down.
Chris began to steer the four of them away from me slowly. He invited them to other group chats and video calls. He'd send the link openly on the group chats, but he knew I would never join since these people had that same shitty perception of me from before and they would probably treat me like fucking shit. I ghosted after that, and I kept to myself. I became miserable. Everything was gone as soon as I had it. But F was still there. I remember she called my name as soon as I joined a voice channel with her and she tried to make me feel seen but I didn't see that myself. I chose to leave. I regret it, but it was the healthier choice. I went back to my old friends, the ones that I had neglected for so long, and I was happy again. My crush, though, didn't waiver. She stayed in my head. We lost touch, but even then, her voice and her smile played back and forth in my brain. Needless to say, sophomore year was the worst year of my life.
The day before the first day of sophomore year, me and F reconnected. We shared music choices, she introduced me to new music that I adore to this day and we talked about things we liked. On the first day of school, she waved at me when she saw me. I looked at her, but, I didn't wave back. I acted as if the crowd was too rowdy to leave school and I just kept walking. I regret that, to this day. She quickly became a distant memory to me as our lives turned away. She started to spite me. Chris eventually stopped feeling resentment, and started feeling too cool to invite me to any plans he had going on. He treated me like a dog who he loved in private but didn't bring outside. This time, life made me hate everything. I hated school, my grades were terrible, I was in a state of wreckage and I was highly destructive to myself. Near the end of the year, though, things were looking better. I was happy. I was talking to Henry, Flora, and even F at times. Chris was still a part of our group, but I knew the first chance I got, I was veering far away from that fake fucker.
I visited my home over the summer. I remembered who I was, who I used to be. When I came back, I felt reimagined and reconnected with myself. I took care of myself, but I was still lonely. I felt alone, and I don't know if I was lovesick, but I thought a girlfriend would just solve every problem I had. That's when I met another girl, 'Kera'.
Kera was a senior, and I was a junior. We texted for a while, and eventually, I asked her out on a date. She said yes. Before I met Kera, I still had feelings for F, but now those feelings were starting to give way. I still talked to Henry, Flora and F on our group chat, but I started refocusing my attention on Kera when she came into my life. Needless to say, my first girlfriend was a piece of shit. But I was hopelessly infatuated with her. She had attachment issues, but I loved the attention so I became dependent on her for my own self-love. Eventually, she began to turn abusive towards me. I won't say what happened since I've already come to terms with it but it left me burnt out. I still wouldn't let her go. Three months after we began dating, me, Kera, F and some of our other friends were walking when someone slipped up. Kera cheated on me. At that point, I froze up, but I tried acting cool. I couldn't look at her the same even when she held me. I left her completely and I fucking lost it. I was a wreck for months.
F saw I was fucked up, and she messaged me. She said she'd always be there for me, and that if I needed to talk, she'd be there. I told her I'd talk to her later, but I was caught right back into my own mess when Kera messaged me. It took time, but I was finally over her. I was set free from her. One day, me, Chris and F were discussing things when the question came up. 'What happened with Kera?'. I told them everything, and F understood. She was comforting and gentle and helped me explain to Chris why the things she did weren't justified because he hadn't been in a relationship before. I was too broken to have a crush on anyone then, but I appreciated her kindness. Me, F and Henry became very close friends over the summer, as we revised for our finals together, played games and laughed off into the night.
Fast forward to senior year. So far, senior year has been the greatest year of my life, and writing this, I think I finally understand how severe my issues were as a young teen. During junior year, some new kids joined and I became very very close friends with them. To this day, they have been the best friends I have ever made, simply because they treat me like a human being. They invite me to things, they tease me, they laugh with me, everything I have ever wanted. It had made me realize that my loneliness wasn't about girls, it was about friends in general. Anyways, about F. F and I had a severe case of drift after the start of senior year. For three months, Henry, F and I stuck together closely, but life came in the way. Henry and I became extremely close, but we were drifting. My crush on F at this point was dead, and we still talked to one another at times. After a few months, I was talking to some friends when F and one of her class friends was behind us sitting on a table. I heard her friend say "What about him?" and I saw him quickly point at me in the corner of my eye. She replied, "He's attractive now, but... I feel like he would be really boring." After a minute or two of extra eavesdropping (I know it's wrong, I'm sorry) I knew for sure they were talking about dating. At that point, I didn't really know what to think, but after taking some time out of my day to think about it, I understood I should let her go. But I understood where she was coming from. I was closed off, and very scared to talk to her. I could barely talk to girls when I first met her, and I knew our 1 on 1 talks were boring as fuck, because I was the one who sat quiet and did nothing during them. Maybe I'm justifying her actions, but I feel like she's kind of right about that one. I didn't really give her a reason to think I'm fun to be honest.
I stopped thinking about her, I stopped trying to think about ways we could talk to one another, I tried everything. For a while, it worked. I realized me and Henry were drifting, however, and I shot him a message. I asked him how things were and we talked into the night as he vented to me about his personal problems and I consoled him and told him what I thought he needed to hear from me at that point in time. He was genuinely thankful and he told me to come sit with him at lunch time tomorrow to talk.
I talked to him and eventually, we talked about F. I noticed she'd been kind of down lately and that's when he told me what happened. Chris' friend (call him Adam) had a birthday party. Adam was one of the guys that sort of resented me, and though we were on good terms, I didn't really like him too much. Adam was very close with Henry too. F and Adam made out at the party since Adam broke up with his ex a while ago and felt lost. When I heard that, I, too, became lost. Ever since then, F and I have just drifted further and further apart. Every time I feel like my feelings for her are gone, they come back way stronger than before. I dream about her, usually we are in the hallway and she walks in front of me and I stand defeated in her presence. TL;DR - I'm a stupid kid who's liked a girl for ~4 years and I don't know what to do. So, I have been thinking, I want to tell her how I have felt. Her boyfriend and her plan to break up after our graduation, so I was thinking of sending her some voice notes then about my feelings and how I could never talk to her straight when I saw her, but I don't know if I should. I need to let these feelings out so that I never regret not being able to be open with her. If you agree with me, what should I even say? What would you want to hear, if you were her? Please let me know. If you have any other ideas for me, let me know them too. I just want to get this massive weight off of my chest. Thank you for reading this massive post. Much appreciated.

Driven: 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Proves Mid-Size Trucks Don’t Have To Suck

https://preview.redd.it/nnacw9ecny2b1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=09591c58da67e45c700456841de4978e9c700d84
The redesigned Colorado combines a good ride with a nicer interior as well as an all-new turbo engine

Trucks are as American as apple pie, but most of the attention has been focused on the full-size segment. It’s been that way for decades, but smaller trucks have finally stepped into the spotlight.

The Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz revived the long dormant compact segment, while 2023 is shaping up to be the year of the mid-size truck thanks to new entries from Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, and Toyota. That’s a ton of new blood and we haven’t even mentioned the Jeep Gladiator and Nissan Frontier, which are still relatively fresh.

We’re kicking the year off with the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado, which features a fantastic new design, an upgraded interior, and an all-new turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. However, the biggest news might be value as the truck starts at $29,200 and you can get one with four-wheel drive, adaptive cruise control, a bed liner, and a ton of safety features for under $37,000.

A Sporty And Stylish Design

While there’s a lot going on, there’s no better place to start than styling because designers knocked it out of the park. The model has “big truck energy” and sports an all-new design that echoes the Silverado. However, this is no scaled down copy as the Colorado has a more youthful and athletic appearance, which combines sharp lines with subtle curves.

The resulting design is great and the Colorado is arguably better looking than its larger counterpart. That’s high praise and each trim has a slightly different aesthetic. The entry-level WT is the most basic of the bunch as it sports black components and 17-inch steel wheels. This look is shared with the all-new Colorado Trail Boss, which builds on the WT but adopts a 2-inch (51 mm) lift, a wider front track, and 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 32-inch all-terrain tires.

The Colorado LT is more traditional as it wears body-color components and 17-inch aluminum wheels, while the Z71 combines creature comforts with moderate amounts of off-road capability.

The news isn’t all good as the Colorado is offered exclusively in a crew cab configuration with a 5’ 2” bed. This is a bit of a disappointment as the outgoing model offered extended and crew cab configurations as well as a larger 6’2” bed.

That being said, the redesigned Colorado has a few tricks up its sleeve and one of the most interesting ideas is a lockable, watertight compartment that is integrated into the tailgate. With the tailgate down, you push two levers aside to gain access to a compartment that measures 45 inches (1,143 mm) wide and 4 inches (102 mm) deep. It can be a bit tricky to open, but there’s a decent amount of space and owners could easily stash tow straps and other off-road equipment there.

While the compartment is a little gimmicky, it’s hard to argue with eight standard tie-downs, integrated motorcycle tire grooves, and an available 110-volt power outlet in the bed. The tailgate can also be positioned midway down to aid in transporting longer items, while a dampened EZ-lift and lower tailgate is also available.

An Interior That Doesn’t Scream Cheap

Mid-size trucks are far more affordable than their larger counterparts and this cut-rate pricing is often reflected in the interior. However, the Colorado bucks this trend as drivers will find a significantly improved cabin with better equipment.

The changes are immediately apparent as driver sit behind a chunky steering wheel and find themselves looking at an all-new 8-inch digital instrument cluster. It comes standard and features an assortment of informative displays including an off-road focused setup, which shows pitch and roll as well as the steering angle and current transfer case setting.

Speaking of screens, there’s an 11.3-inch infotainment system with Google integration as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It’s a massive improvement over the old 7- and 8-inch displays, and the system is fast, responsive, and largely intuitive. That being said, we did experience a few hiccups including an instance where music was blasting at startup and the system initially refused to respond to attempts to lower the volume or mute.

Putting the screens aside, the cabin sports a modern design with classy switchgear, gloss black trim, and metallic accents. The amenities vary by trim and things are pretty basic in the WT and Trail Boss. It’s not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but the models eschew a lot of the bright work, padding, and details that make higher-end variants look and feel special. It’s also worth mentioning that, regardless of which trim you get, black plastic is abound and it’s of the hard variety.

Despite being a rough and tumble pickup, the Colorado can dust off its cowboy boots for a night on the town. In particular, the model can be equipped with two-tone heated and ventilated leather front seats as well as a heated steering wheel. While it’s not as fancy as the upcoming GMC Canyon Denali, it’s pretty darn nice for a mid-size truck.

Speaking of the seats, the front chairs are perfectly comfortable and spacious while also offering a good amount of support. Furthermore, the entry-level WT doesn’t cheapen out too much, although a front center console is an optional extra.

The rear seats are less impressive as they’re not terribly spacious. While there’s a good amount of headroom, legroom is limited as occupants will find a mere 34.7 inches (881 mm) of space and that’s 1.1 inches (28 mm) less than last year’s crew cab pickup. The experience reminded me of the compact Maverick and Santa Cruz, which actually have more rear seat legroom on paper. That being said, the seats seem to be competitive for the segment, although not as generous as those found in the Gladiator.

A Turbo Four With V8 Levels Of Torque

The streamlining continues under the hood as the Colorado’s engine lineup shrinks from three to one. As a result, every single model is equipped with a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder.

The engine has been powering the Silverado for years and it’s available in three different outputs. The entry-level variant produces 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS) and 259 lb-ft (351 Nm) of torque, which is a sizable improvement over the old 2.5-liter four-cylinder that developed 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS) and 191 lb-ft (258 Nm).

The entry-level engine comes standard in the WT and LT, and offers respectable performance. There’s plenty of power for cruising around town, although we wished for a little extra oomph when it came to merging onto the highway.

The mid-level engine comes standard in the Trail Boss and Z71, where it produces 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque. Customers can also opt for a high-output version that develops 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 430 lb-ft (582 Nm) of torque. The latter figure is insane as the engine has more torque than the 5.0-liter V8 in the Ford F-150. It also bests the Silverado’s 5.3-liter V8 by 47 lb-ft (64 Nm), despite having half the number of cylinders.

The high-output engine comes standard in the range-topping Colorado ZR2, but Trail Boss and Z71 customers can order a high-output calibration for an additional $395. That seems pretty reasonable as it delivers an extra 40 lb-ft (54 Nm) of torque, which will be appreciated if you tow on a regular basis.

While the base engine is fine, the upgraded versions transform the truck from good to great. As you’d expect, responsiveness improves significantly and there’s plenty of power throughout the band. Chevrolet hasn’t released detailed performance specifications, but officials we spoke to said all three versions of the engine enable the truck to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than seven seconds.

Speaking of the engine, it seems relatively refined and engineers told us it was “designed like a diesel.” As a result, it sports a rigid cylinder block casting, a fully forged bottom end, and a stiff crankshaft – among other things. While that’s just scratching the surface, the engine has been subjected to countless torture tests and was designed to withstand years of heavy use.

The engine is connected to a capable eight-speed automatic transmission, which worked well on- and off-road as shifts were perfectly timed and well executed. Rear-wheel drive comes standard on the WT and LT, but the rest of the lineup has four-wheel drive.

EPA ratings haven’t been released, but the Colorado has an engine start/stop system and active fuel management technology. As a result, we can expect the truck to surpass the Silverado’s rating of 19 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined. It’s also worth mentioning that all of the engines run on regular gasoline, even the high-output variant.

A Capable Truck That Doesn’t Ride Rough

One of the most surprising things about the 2023 Colorado is how well it drives. Body-on-frame trucks aren’t typically known for their refinement, but Chevy’s entry exceeded our expectations.

While the ride can get a little bumpy on rough roads, it’s not uncomfortable and can best be described as truck-like. However, those incidents were few and far between as things settle down significantly on smooth roads and the Colorado proved to be a comfortable highway cruiser, despite having a solid rear axle and leaf springs.

The good news doesn’t end there as handling is good for a body-on-frame pickup. Cornering was secure and predictable without any hints of drama until the truck was pushed hard. The experience can also be somewhat entertaining on the right road, although you’ll want to keep your expectations in check.

Given this is a truck, it’s not surprising to learn the steering is a little heavy and slow. We didn’t have any problems with the heft, but we wish the truck offered a sport mode with a more direct response as traversing twisty mountain roads required an almost comical amount of turning.

Speaking of driving modes, the Colorado offers Normal, Tow/Haul, Off-Road, Terrain, and Baja settings. Terrain mode might be the most notable as it was designed for low-speed rock crawling and it enables you to travel at a leisurely pace with subtle throttle responses.

The truck also offers a cool off-road performance display as well as up to 10 different camera views including underneath the truck. Speaking of off-road goodies, the Z71 and Trail Boss come standard with a limited-slip differential and hill descent control. The Trail Boss is also notable for featuring the aforementioned lift and wider stance.

Back on pavement, wind noise can be pronounced at highway speed, but otherwise the truck is fairly quiet. The model also sports an impressive amount of standard safety equipment including Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam automatic high-beams.

Customers looking for more safety tech will find an assortment of affordable packages that offer Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Park Assist, and Rear-Cross Traffic Braking. They’re joined by Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Pedestrian Alert, and an HD Surround Vision system.

Colorado owners like to tow and most versions of the truck have a maximum towing capacity of 7,700 lbs (3,493 kg). This bests the Frontier, Ranger, and Tacoma while also matching the mightiest Gladiator.

Sticking with towing, customers can get a package that adds a receiver as well as an automatic locking rear differential, an integrated trailer brake controller, and a trailering app on the infotainment system. We’d also be remiss to mention the truck has a maximum payload capacity of up to 1,684 lbs (764 kg).

Mid-Size No Longer Means Half As Good

Mid-size trucks have often felt like half-hearted efforts, but that’s clearly not the case with the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. Designers and engineers poured blood, sweat, and tears into the model and the end result is truly impressive as it looks great, drives well, and features an impressive new engine.

On top of that, the Colorado boasts a significantly improved interior, more upscale equipment, and a new Trail Boss trim that should appeal to off-roaders on a budget. Speaking of which, Chevy managed to keep pricing affordable and this means you can get a nice truck for around $42,000.

While there are a few tradeoffs, the Colorado is a solid pickup and the one to beat. Of course, there’s no shortage of challengers on the horizon and we’ll learn more about them in the coming months.

re-doing the Fel-Pro permadry valve cover gaskets on 05 outback. Not sure where I went wrong last time.
I installed new FelPro permadry valve cover gaskets a couple weeks ago and it's idling rough, so I think I messed up, but not sure how. I circled one of the spots where it's not flat and used Mega Blue RTV. I now realize I didn't let it cure enough, but I'm still learning and want to make sure I didn't mess anything else up with the installation so I do it correctly this time. Thank you for any advice!

2023.06.04 23:28 GlowyMist Special request from uber driver? Is it feasible? If it is, what is a great tip?

I have a disabled family member who is needing to go to the airport. Apparently they won't have a wheel chair near the front, but it can be requested. Do you think if I added a note to the Uber driver to ask if they would request an employee to bring her one, it would be possible? She would not stay in the vehicle, and would exit upon arrival. Just not sure if she can make it inside. So she would need an airport employee briefly informed that she is out there. If this is possible, I was thinking a $25 tip for a short ride. But do you have any other suggestions? Would an Uber driver do this or is it asking too much? Please don't be rude, it's a sincere question. If they are willing, how much should I tip? Thank you.

2023.06.04 23:27 Salt-Edge-1072 Please I need a professionals opinion on a fleas infestation!!!!

So I live in an apartment with three other girls. One of my roommates will call her Val, has two cats. Her room and my room share a wall. Recently we’ve been having a flea issue.
Now Val says that her cats are on preventative and that they do not have fleas. We have also never had an issue with fleas beforehand till she was just getting ready to move out. She states that the cats left the apartment May 18th but when I got back home from my trip May 22nd I found three fleas in my room!
I thought it was really weird and I kind of brushed it off. Then when I went to the living room (btw her room is in front of the living room) I got bit by two more fleas. I ran to Walmart got flea bombs to fumigate my room and the living room. Although fleas stopped popping into my room every time I would go in the living room I’d get bit by at least one.
Finally I had enough of this and so did my other roommates and we decided to call the apartment complex. They said that they would hire an exterminator but that they would charge $370 to the person who had pets in the unit. Before I went forward with this decision I did text Val in the group chat and let her know about the flea issue and she said that fleas don’t live more than 48 hours and that simple flea spray it would resolve the problem. Sadly it’s been two weeks and we still find fleas.
Like I mentioned before I tried to exterminate the issue myself but was unsuccessful and after two weeks of dealing with fleas my roommates and I told the front office to go ahead and hire the exterminator.
Obviously Val was not happy with us. She started blowing up the roommate group chat and saying all kinds of things. Stating that her cats are on preventative and that they can’t even get fleas. Which I want to believe but I have no idea why we have a flea infestation in the first place. Our apartment complex is not in a wooded area and there’s no wild animals that come by. My other roommates and I don’t have pets.
The front office told us the only way fleas get in the apartment is if there’s pets in there. I’m just really at a loss here. Idk if Val is telling the truth or not. I feel bad that they charged her that much. Val is pleading to my other roommates and I to pitch in to cover the cost. Of course I feel bad but before I pitch in I need a professional to explain to me how fleas got the apartment in the first place.

2023.06.04 23:26 UsualBug5241 Western Christians... ugh...

Welcome to the first rant ever posted on this sub.
Anyways, western evangelical non denominational protestant christians are so annoying. Their racism towards Arabs/MENA is so obvious. Their antisemitism is covered by "Jews are the chosen people" knowing full well that is racist in itself. They support things like foreign US intervention and are some of the most hardcore Zionists in the world are Western Christians.
I saw a video of an American Christian in an interview who was a hardcore Zionist. When someone asked about Palestinian Christians, this man said "If I was a Palestinian Christian, I would leave this situation up to God". How can any sane human think that while Palestinians are being ethnically cleansed, that they should just "leave it up to God". Disgusting. Inhumane.
Western Christians are also some of the most uneducated, misinformed, and uncultured people on the planet. They constantly equate Arabs and Muslims as if they mean the same thing, and whenever I tell people I'm a MENA Christian, many of them respond with "did u convert" like 2000 years ago.
They think that they're "great country of freedom and democracy" invading the Middle East helps Christians (if they know we exist in the first place) when in reality, we have suffered because Western imperialism.
They are probably the most uncultured people on earth. They are some of the most Islamophobic people on earth and when they find out you're a MENA Christian they either A) act so passive aggressive B) feel pity for us because we are persecuted C) assume so many things about us like we converted or we share the same beliefs as them (i.e. Christian Zionism, Islamophobia etc.)
I understand we have been victims of persecution throughout history due to Muslim extremists. I'm not denying that, but we are more than just persecuted. We have contributed so much throughout Christian history. There are many Arab and/or MENA Orthodox saints that spread the Good News about Jesus. Some of the earliest Christian communities were Arabs. The Oriental Orthodox Church started in Arabia. We are a community that keeps faith in Christ Jesus even if we are persecuted. I'm a Nubian Christian, yes we're persecuted but we are also some of the first Christian communities. But all Western Christians see is a persecuted people. And a lot of them see us in a racist view because they don't like MENA.
It's quite simple, they don't respect us. They are some of the most passive aggressive and condescending people on earth. They are supposed to be our brothers and sisters in Christ but they don't act like it.
Now, I want to make it clear that not all Western Christians are like this. There are some Western Christians I know that are respectful and don't deserve any hate. This post is towards any evangelical non denominational protestant Christian who fits the description I have explained in this post.
Yea... that was the first rant of this sub.

2023.06.04 23:26 Skywolf111 [OC] The weekly game I started playing with has the players take turns writing a recap for each session. I decided to write mine as a journal entry by my character (a Firbolg cleric, inspired by everything Jim Henson). I had a lot of fun with it. (Full entry in comments)

From the Journal of Caroll Meadowhome:
I was going to write the date here. but You know what….I’m not actually sure what the date is on this plane….I should really ask someone how the calendar works here…..
If you are reading this, you are either me from the future, or you completely ignored the big “DO NOT READ!!!” on the cover of this book, and you have no regard for others’ privacy, but you are also from the future… Either way,
How’s it hanging? Is the future scary? I hope it’s not scary. It’s probably not scary…
I am supposed to be sleeping right now because if there is anything this group needs, it is a healer that has plenty of energy in them to heal, and I’m kind of tapped at the moment. But I promised myself I would make time to write in this journal, and if I don’t actually “make” time, it will never happen. It will probably be fine. I still haven’t used my “big boy” spells yet, and it's not like we will get jumped in the middle of the night or anything…I set a trap that has no way of failing!
Well, I guess I’ve got to start somewhere. Because I don’t want to be here all night, I'm just going to pick an arbitrary point that is probably going to feel like the middle of the story, but If I started at the beginning 350 years ago, there would be no way I'm ever going to finish this journal. Instead, I'm going to start from a few hours ago. That seems doable. After fighting the evil bush, with hygiene issues, we found this underground Fire Giant military encampment, and there was definitely stuff happening here; if you tried to explain it to someone, they would think you’re some conspiracy nutjob or somethin’. It’s always interesting to see how the old Giant ancestors differ from one another on the different planes, like from what I gather, the Giants of this plane of existence didn't even have green skin, and their nose was much more like the smaller races and not like mine, “Cow like” as Jumbo has called it. I really got to see these cows. The way he explains them, they seem like pretty chill creatures….
Anyways, the Fire Giants on this plane don’t seem very chill at all (no pun intended), but they did seem like they were very advanced craftsmen and scientists. I mean, we rode on an elevator that's gotta be at least a few thousand years old, and the damn thing didn’t make so much as a squeak on the way down! And the toilets…..Look, in my 350 years, I have seen some profoundly poor excuses for bathrooms, but if my ass was a bit bigger….these toilets seemed like they would be a dream. The group looks excited to be around Fire Giant stuff, especially Carlyn. She seems kind of like a Fire Giant Fangirl. But it;s always nice when a smaller race takes interest in the big guys. Weird sometimes, but nice. She doesn't seem like one of the weird ones though. She is always very respectful. Pretty handy with fire herself too. I think the Fire Giants are part of some puzzle related to their quest, but to tell you the truth, I have no clue what the hell is going on; I’m just along for the ride…I’m sure I’ll pick it up eventually through context clues… Jumbo, the fearless little guy he is, has taken the lead in exploring this place. It's always admirable how he walks straight into a new room without so much as looking through it before entering, despite just having been ambushed by a bunch of drow. He marched straight into the Executive suite without a second thought. I could take a lesson from his book; sometimes, I feel like I’m a little paranoid. It’s like, “It’s fine, Caroll. We don’t need to be so cautious of the broom closet!” Like much of this place, it has held up remarkably well, but a thousand years is a thousand years, and time has a way of aging things. The first room we entered didn’t have much, a table leaning on the wall…bits of chair legs, and dust all over. OH! And some bone shards….you know, like someone just randomly died…in a hallway…it’s probably fine. The next room we entered seemed to be where the real action was at! It had it all, more broken furniture, like a bed, a table, a work desk with some drawers and two of those crystal constructs like the one we saw in the other room that seemed like a corporate training video liket I’ve seen on other planes. One of the constructs seemed really damaged but the other still had an intact tube. I immediately told Jumbo to touch it, but we decided as a group that it was best if we didn’t set it off because there might be more drow around, and we are banking on the fact that they didn't hear the first one go off.

2023.06.04 23:26 Sunniestsuns Enclosures update

Enclosures update
First pic is an update that u covered a lot of the mesh, not tight enough to stop air flow but enough that the water will pool at the top and "rain back down". A zip lock bag was the perfect size for this XD
The second picture is the new p. Laevis dairy cow enclosure. There were a bunch of flies in the old one that I could not get out so I did have to move them to a new one. Counted how many I had; approximately 220, up from the 12 I started with 2 months ago XD

2023.06.04 23:23 Thick_Mick_Chick M.O.N.S.T.E.R. Nursery

Let me be the first to welcome you to the MotheOffspring, Nurturing/Support, Teaching/Education Resource Network, or? M.O.N.S.T.E.R. Nursery. My name is Sassy, short for Sasquatch. Yes, THAT sasquatch. Are there other kinds?! I'm a HCC (Healthcare Cryptid) here at the nursery. I also teach humans the survival basics of coming across a baby monster in the woods.
Anyhoo, you're probably wondering why Sasquatch are utilized as Labor and Delivery nurses. It's simple, really. We're natural born mothers. You see, we just love babies! We always have! All of that nonsense about whooping, tree knocking and vocalizations that we do in the woods when you guys are camping? Don't get scared! That's just us shouting out to our boys letting them know we have humans in the woods! Humans could possibly have a BABY with them. Now, I don't like to judge based on looks, but those bald human babies are so ugly? They're cute! Poor little things look like they have mange, though. Who would think a bald puppy is cute? Ew.
I digress. So, when it came to the M.O.N.S.T.E.R. Nursery? We were the natural choice. Even though I happen to be female? History tells us that male nursery nurses happen to have the best bonding with our little devils. Well, little devils and whoever else was born that day. Just look at Chewy over there bonding with that litter of werewolf pups born on the last full moon. He's so maternal? He's practically a breast.
Now, all babies are not created equal. Have you ever wondered which monster's baby is the loudest? I can promise you that you'd rather listen to that werewolf pup litter any day over being 5 minutes late with Baby Siren Head's bottle. I had a headache for a week. When Vlad and Countess Bathory had their little undead bundle of joy last month? You'd be surprised how quick a Bigfoot can prick and milk their finger to get a fresh bottle of nutritious blood for that adorable, pale little parasite. He definitely had a healthy appetite, especially if you were B positive. Vlad and Countess Bathory couldn't have been happier. Patient satisfaction has always been a priority for HCCs (Healthcare Cryptid) since day one! We've never gotten below a 5 on the Jack Link's scale of 0 - 5 jerkies. We are collectively very proud of this fact! It's such an accomplishment for Bigfoot and all of Sasquatch kind.
Okay, I could understand why you think we're a little full of ourselves. I, mean, when Sasquatch are the chosen ones to be the top requested HCC? It's a far fall to the 2nd position. Look, we can't all be God's Chosen Ones. Yes, he exists. Yes, he created us. You're getting distracted, again. We aren't all going to argue semantics on what is Creationism and what is Darwinism and all of that. I'm too busy trying to teach incompetent, um cough cough, INTERESTED humans how to provide the most basic care for any creature's neonates (medical term for newborn) that they might stumble across while enjoying hiking, camping, fishing, etc. The priority? The newborn. Additional concerns?
1) MotheFather finding humans around newborn and attacking them.
2) Humans treating the scenario like an episode of "Jack Ass" and thinking it's a good idea to "mess with" the newborn and? Again? Mom/Dad attacks them.
3) Basically? A human breathing will set Mom/Dad off. Most creatures just don't want humans around. They can't be trusted. Sorry, Guys. It's been that way every since you refused to credit Chewy in the '67 Patterson–Gimlin film.
So? Your first reaction, if you see a baby creature? Look for it's parents. If you see them? Run. Run fast. Like, put Forrest Gump to shame kinda runnin'. Those parents don't want you there for any reason at all. Pick 'em up and put 'em down the whole way back down the trail.
If you don't see the parents? Proceed slowly and with caution. Now, don't let everything I've said scare you into not helping a baby monster. They're babies, after all. Please, check on them. Just be aware of your surroundings so as not to frighten the wood creatures which will, in turn, attack you. Then? It's just a bad day for everyone involved.
So? Depending on the woodland creature? You'll want to know what action you need to take to help the baby and? Hopefully? Survive assisting. The first thing you'll want to do is call out/whistle, whatever you have to do to try to get someone's attention. Look around and listen. What do you see and hear? If it's nothing? Again, proceed with caution. If you hear howling, growling, tree knocking, whooping, any of these things? Leave, either their parents are still around or we're there and will then takeover. I know. It's confusing to try to tell when we're tree knocking hoping you have a baby with you or if we know there's a baby around and we don't want you around the baby. Really, if at all possible, just don't mess with the babies if you don't have to. With that having been said? Let's proceed!
As you cautiously approach? Keep making noise letting everyone know you're there. We don't want to scare the life, or afterlife, out of these little ones. They're at their most vulnerable right now. Let's use Chewy's patients today as an example. You traipse along and stumble over a werewolf den. Well, that's not something you see every day. You hear soft whimpering. About 4 or 5 little werewolf pup heads pop up out of the den. How's everyone looking? Is anyone hurt? No? Then check your supplies. It just so happens you were successful fishing earlier. Werewolf pups love fish almost as much as moonbathing and cutting their baby teeth on a human femur. They'll be thankful, the Alpha male and female will be thankful and you'll really be thankful. You get to walk away, karma and limbs intact.
Next? It would be highly likely that you'd come across a wendigo, skinwalker, rake slenderman, etc. besides just a litter of werewolf pups. Try to prepare yourself as much as possible for these encounters. The better prepared? The better off everyone will be. The best part? These creatures won't want your everlasting soul in infancy. Those challenges don't present until adolescence. So? Enjoy the respite for the moment. Now? No matter what the situation? You'll always want to approach with caution and announce your arrival. It's saved not only many a human? It's saved a lot of cryptids as well. Try to have some sort of food item on you that's rather filling. You'd prefer that over them making YOU the food item.
So, as we proceed down the trail, there's a cabin to the left and it's the last house but do not enter, please. The last good hearted Samaritan did and, well, let's just say he had a run in with a girl locked in the cellar who wasn't quite herself. That's probably about the most PC way of explaining demonic possession. Anyhoo, there was bad press for a year and visitors to the park fell off, it just was a big mess. They ended up doing some kind of cybernetic enhancement and now the good Samaritan has a chainsaw for an arm. He's done a great job keeping them all in line. Overall? That was one we got right.
Since I brought up Vlad and the Countess Bathory's bouncing little bundle of bloodsucker? It's important to know that if you are in your domicile, and R.V.'s count, vampires cannot enter without an invitation from you. So, if you are camping in your R.V. and someone comes knocking late at night? Don't answer. If they aren't a vampire? They can come back the next day. If they don't come back? You definitely made the right decision. Now, the problem is? If you encounter a vampire in the wild. Hopefully? They've already set their sights on whoever they picked that night to be their victim. If not? A dropper of Holy Water as perfume on either side of your neck is a nice deterrent. Again, if the little count is there by himself? He's clearly gotten away from the castle. He needs returned immediately. Go to the nearest tree that displays a "break in case of emergency" box. Break the glass, take the bag of beef jerky out, shake it. Every Sasquatch in a 5 mile radius will come running to you. Point the baby vampire out and we'll be glad to take it from there.
Something I should bring up to our do-gooders ready to risk it all: if you can't swim? Don't try to help aquatic creatures. It won't end well. It never does. Little fry just aren't acclimated to landlubbers. Merpups are tough for even us to handle. They get scared, you can't swim, bad things happen. So? If you're determined to help any baby monster no matter where they reside? Take swimming lessons. You'll thank me. Trust me on this.
Don't let the fae trip you up, either. They're mischievous. They'll also try to sneak a changeling in on you if you do bring your human babies to the forest. If you respect walking around fairy rings and respect mother nature? The fae shouldn't be an issue. If you don't? Well, you were warned.
So, what have we not covered? Flying creatures. Yes, they present a challenge even we Sasquatch find difficult. It's hard to assess the needs of a baby that's wrapped in the arms of a mother flying 75 feet above your head. Even though the task is daunting? It's a challenge we'll definitely take on. We just watch and wait for Mom to go on the hunt and we take a peak at that tiny little velociraptor in that nest, with it's mouth hanging wide open, just awaiting a morsel. Now, the Mothman's baby was an experience. Cocoons are just something you have to see for yourself, especially when they're 6 feet tall. It's truly fascinating!
I think that covers everything for today's lesson. Bear in mind, we're beginning the summer season here in the U.S. Encounters are going to increase between cryptids and humans so be aware and care when it comes to our babies. We're aware and care when it comes to yours. Stay safe and Sasquatch on!

2023.06.04 23:23 spreebiz [Discussion] The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green - Chapters 22 - 24 (CNN, Harvey, The Yips)

Welcome back to another check-in for The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green!
Today we look at the news cycle, a black-and-white movie about an imaginary rabbit, and a mental block often found in sports.
SUMMARY
Chapter 22: CNN. America's first 24 hour news network began on June 1st, 1980. John does think it provides a service, some investigative journalism, but it does report the news, not what is noteworthy or important but what is new. He discusses how ongoing crises aren't usually covered, and particularly not with background information or context. Then, John describes living with his roommates in 2003, after the invasion of Iraq, means a lot of cable news, while Hassan waits for news about his relatives (they were okay). CNN shows some footage from Baghdad, a home using plywood to cover a hole, and some graffiti on the plywood, implying anger and hatred in the city. However, when translated, the graffiti reads ""Happy Birthday, sir, despite the circumstances." showing CNN's lack of context. 2 stars
Chapter 23: Harvey. John discusses a particularly bad depressive episode after a breakup leading him to leave his job in Chicago at Booklist and moving back to Florida with his parents. After some advice to talk to the magazine's publisher, Bill Ott, he watches Harvey with his parents. The movie provides John some relief during his recovery and is able to return to Chicago and his job, with some hope. 5 stars.
Chapter 24: The Yips. This essay begins with a description of a young pitcher Rick Ankiel, who was a great pitcher starting out, until he contracted the yips during a playoff game. The yips can appear differently in different sports, but is not unique to baseball. John also describes how a tennis player, Ana Ivanovic had the yips in throwing her serves. John also experiences the yips when trying to hit a forehand in tennis. Anxiety can worsen the yips, but seem to be caused by a physiological problem (but maybe one causes the other). Rick returns to baseball as an outfielder and ended his career with over fifty home runs. 1.5 stars
See you on June 6th when u/bluebelle236 will present the next three chapters about Auld Lang Syne, Googling Strangers, and Indianapolis.
If you like to read ahead, check out the marginalia! Beware the spoilers though.

2023.06.04 23:22 bigdreamslittlethngs I now view my friend differently because of how dirty her condo was

For context, Allie*(25F) and I(28F) have been friends for close to a year after meeting through mutual friends. This—however—was going to be my first time at her condo as she lives over half an hour away and the majority of our hangouts are closer to where I live seeing as majority of our friends live over by me. Allie always looks pretty decent even without make-up or a fancy do, and I’ve been in her car before and while it wasn’t absolutely sparkling, it wasn’t a dump either. So I never would’ve expected walking into what I did a couple weeks ago.
My other friend Tia(27F) and I were invited over to Allie’s for a casual lunch and lounge day. I was excited as I had never been to Allie’s before and it had been a bit since Tia, Allie and I all hung out. Tia and I carpooled and we wondered what Allie’s condo would look like. Tia had heard through a mutual friend that it was messy, but we never saw many pics as any Snapchats we get from Allie are usually selfies.
We arrive to her condo and walk in and I have to say I was shocked. Every surface was covered with various items and/or dust. Items that could’ve been put away or organized better. The floors and baseboards looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months. Dishes in a dirty sink, hard water stains in the toilet, silverfish bugs coming out of the shower. I legit could not sit down for more than a minute because I was so disgusted. I do not fare well in dirty places which luckily has only been some hotels thus far but this was a first for me.
Allie has anxiety but no depression or any other significant mental health disorder that would justify such a messy place. She works 32 hours a week so it’s not like she’s never home and doesn’t have time. And you could tell this is how she lives and not just the result of a really busy week or something that would prevent her from cleaning. I don’t know what her excuse is but I hate to say it’s made me look at her differently. I know being a messy person/bad cleaner doesn’t make you a bad person by any means so I feel kind of bad for feeling the way I do, but honestly her condo just grossed me out so much that I do not want to go back there again or stay for as long as I did.

2023.06.04 23:22 BlownCamaro Any tips for using DriveHub on Series X? It won't turn off

I turn my Series X off and the controller turns off, but the DriveHub stays on and so does my G29 wheel. You can barely turn it and it's at full centering force. This can't be good for it! Is there a way to get the DriveHub to power off with the Series X or do I have to keep pulling the USB cable?
Also, I noticed in every racing game I have had to completely change all of the force feedback settings when using the DriveHub versus just plugging in a wheel. Why is this? For example:

I have a G920 wheel connected to Series X and Forza Horizon 5. I have it tuned perfectly (for me it took a lot of trial and error). Now I plug in a G29 wheel (which is supposed to be the same mechanism as a G920, just for a PLayStation) into the DriveHub and the game is unplayable! I can turn the wheel at least 15 degrees in either direction before there is any feedback at all. I spent an hour just to get it to work and had to change six things. That's ridiculous. Same thing happened in Forza 7. The wheel was making loud SNAP noises on some turns like it was clipping (it was) and I had to adjust everything in that game as well.
If this is how it works, then I think I'll just sell it and go back to swapping wheels again on my rig between Series X and PS5.

2023.06.04 23:22 Tbond222 Anyone with experience in hit and run accidents in California? What was covered by your insurance company?

My wife was in a hit and run accident about a month ago. There were witnesses who gave the police the license plate number, a description of the driver and their car. So far the police say they have been unable to find the driver or their car.
I am working with my insurance company Tesla Insurance to have my SR+ Model 3 repaired. I have full coverage and part of that is 30 days for a rental. They are saying I would have to pay for a rental past the 30 days which is already coming up next week. I don’t understand how a rental can’t be covered under the same part that comes out of the cost to fix the car. This accident wasn’t our fault yet we will have to probably pay thousands of dollars just for a rental. The damage was pretty severe and will probably take months to fix. Sucks that you pay all this money for insurance and they don’t cover things like this.
Sorry for the long post. Just curious if anyone in CA had a similar experience with a hit and run and what your insurance covered. I know it probably varies by companies but wanted to hear other’s experiences. Also if you have any advice for hit and run accidents.

2023.06.04 23:21 phoenixflyer96 2018 A3 35 TFSI Auto - Start/Stop issues

TL:DR Start stop system goes from "Ready" to "Off" when attempting to drive, even with the system disabled. This has happened on 2 or 3 occasions over the past two month.
Good evening all,
I've done some research yielding little fruit. My A3 (2018 A3 35 TFSI S-line automatic) I've had since July 22 has recently developed an issue (that may or may not be user error I'm not sure 😂) regarding the Start Stop system.
One two or three occasions over the last 2 month, I've had issues with the start stop system where it fails to resume normal operation and drive when setting off mid drive (not when first time setting off) specifically asking me to restart the engine manually by shifting into Park or Neutral and then turning the ignition.
I've recently noticed that the rev counter is going from "Ready" to "Off" when either turning the steering wheel slightly, or applying slight pressure to the accelerator. Since then, I've disabled the Start Stop functionality when starting the engine to rule it out. Yesterday, I moved my car 200 metres to the car washing station where I work and strangely, it entered into the start stop state, even though the Start Stop system was disabled (Red Light on the dash where the Start Stop button is so I'm positive its disabled).
Usually, the engine would start up if I moved the steering wheel slightly or tapped the accelerator. However, just like the last two/three times; the rev counter moved from "Ready" to "Off" and asked me to start the engine manually.
The car is booked in for an MOT and check of the potential fault at the end of the month anyway, I'm just curious if anyone has experienced the above and can educate me.
Thank you

Five months down. Seven months to go until another year when we can do the whole countdown again. Until then, we have five days of government meetings that you might consider attending, participating in, or perhaps turning into a dance remix. On the latter, I can provide the soundbites if you provide the beat. Anyway, more details are in my newsletter for today, but this is a series of blurbs customized for Charlottesville.

Some one-liners:

Please ask questions! I will try to steer you toward more info and provide more context. Share with friends!
