I think that a long with an extended family update, we should get one that has you interacting with your step kids birth parent and have more scenarios that open up for more drama with them. Like they can disapprove of you and argue with the parent of their kids about you not being around the kids, they can try and sue for custody and stuff like that.
And in situations where you’re not married but you have kids with someone and they have other children by people, you can try and have a good relationship with them and have your kids be close with their kids, like setting up play dates or spending Christmas or other holidays at their house

I'm an incoming transfer student and saw that on-campus housing is guaranteed for transfers. Does anyone have input on whether this is worth it in terms of money/location/etc, and if most transfer students choose on or off campus? For the record, I am 22 and have lived off campus at my last school, and am currently living in an apartment in the Boston area. So, I'm used to living on my own and I don't want to go back to on-campus housing with a bunch of 18 year olds and feel like it sucks/ there's no independence, etc, if that makes sense. On the other hand, if on campus housing is a big bonus and what most students choose, then I'd lean towards doing that.

I (F33) split from my husband 2 years ago (no kids). I also left the town we lived in and got a job in a big city, where I didn’t know anyone. It was frightening at first but is now going quite well. Until this.
At university I was good friends with ‘Joe’ who was on my course. He was into casual flings then and I was with my ex so we were just platonic friends. He came to my wedding but then we drifted apart soon after.
However he lives in this city and we work in a similar field and we reconnected ca 4 months ago. He has a partner ‘Cat’ who is now pregnant. She is great and they seem well suited. As someone new to the area, they took me under their wing and also introduced me to his brother and SIL, who have a wide social circle and lots of parties etc. It’s helped me meet people and settle in. I owe them a lot.
My main friend from uni is ‘Lauren’. She’s recently split from her long term partner, which she is finding hard. She also knew Joe from back then and they’d hooked up a few times but nothing came of it and they both moved on. I didn’t really think anything of it.
She’s just been down to stay with me for the weekend. Joe’s SIL arranged a barbecue and invited me. I said my friend was here and she was invited as well. SIL is very welcoming.
But Lauren didn’t behave well at all. She drank too much and started flirting quite openly with Joe, even in front of Cat. I tried to stop her and he initially tried to brush her off politely but she got worse, made a nasty comment about Cat’s figure and even made some references to when she had sex with him ca 10 years ago. Other things as well. It was awful.
I tried to get us to leave. She was refusing. Eventually Joe’s brother asked us to leave his house and we did. I was mortified.
She was belligerent on the way home and then pretty much passed out. This morning she was hungover but not really that apologetic. She felt that flirting is ok as nothing was actually going to happen and it probably made him feel good. I am sure it didn’t. She thinks I’m not supportive enough of her break up, which I thought I was. She accused me of being a judgmental AH. We had an argument, which we’ve never done before and she’s now left.
I’ve texted Joe, Cat and SIL to apologise but no response so far. They may just be busy but I’m paranoid that they’re ghosting me and that I just shouldn’t have taken her, knowing their history. I honestly didn’t think it was that big a deal though.
So they’re ignoring me (maybe?) and Lauren isn’t speaking to me. AITBF?

Last year I bought a house built in 1920. I think the drain pipes are original They're cast iron and not in good shape. It's only a matter of time before it becomes an issue.
Recently my friends brother (Steve, 28) approached me because he's planning to move back from Washington DC and needed a place to stay while he looks for a local job and an apartment. I've only met Steve a few times, but we got along fine and everyone speaks highly of him. I say sure, you can stay in my spare upstairs bedroom.
I give 2 house rules. 1) the pipes are super old. Yes there's a garbage disposal, but pretend it's not there. Food needs to be scraped into the trashcan. If you need to rinse stuff into the sink, there's a mesh strainer in the left drain.
2) Upstairs can get kind of warm (think 78F) in the summer in spite of central a/c, so I bought a window a/c for his bedroom so he won't get hot. I tell him if you're running it, keep the bedroom door closed.
Within a couple weeks I notice something is up. He never bought any groceries, and he stopped ordering doordash. I figure out pretty quick he's eating my food, which was never part of the deal.
So I talk to him about it. He says he just had an issue with his bank, so he figured he'd just borrow some rice and cereal a couple days. Bank issue is fixed next day and he has a few groceries delivered. I think no big deal. Since then I've offered to take him to the grocery store but he always declines.
One day I use the sink and the disposal is full of shit. When I go to talk to him, bedroom door is wide open, ac on full blast. I talk to him about both the AC and the sink. A few days later I notice my BBQ sauce bottle empty and in the trash, along with a big container for instant oats. I tell him if he's going to keep eating my food, at least tell me when something is out so I can replace it.
Keep in mind, through this whole thing, we're spending a decent amount of time hanging out. I'm starting to consider him a friend, which is why I'm letting a lot of this slide. But I know he's still eating my food and making no effort to replace anything, which is really getting on my nerves. More recently it was a whole bottle of good honey.
It all fell apart last night. During the day I noticed the disposal was full of food again. Later I ask him about it. He acts like I'm being a dick for bringing it up. I tell him this isn't negotiable, no food down the sink. He says next time he'll remember to run the disposal.
This is where I blow up. He keeps trying to talk over me and I scream shut the fuck up you dumb piece of shit, which got his attention. I lean into him about disrespecting the house rules and being a bad guest. I list my grievances then tell him (still yelling) that's he's overstayed his welcome and he needs to get the fuck out of my house.
That was yesterday. He's still here, but says he's looking for a new place and will be out ASAP. AITA?

I’ve gotten rid of about 20 initial XL trash bags worth of items in the last few years from my childhood room.
For reference, it was a very tiny room that just barely fit a twin bed and desk. I had to wade through garbage until I moved out.
Since then, I’ve moved 5 times and have gotten rid of 10+ garbage bags each time.
On move 4, my husband and I moved about 35’ of combined uhaul to our new 500 sq ft home.
We had to significantly downsize. We got rid of nearly all of our furniture and Marie Kondo’d an additional 15 trash bags of small stuff. The rest we very creatively jam packed into the house.
This last move we Marie Kondo’d AGAIN and we are finally down to a reasonable amount of stuff.
We rarely buy anything. We get new clothes (like, a shirt or two) maybe 2x a year. We wear shoes until they wear out and replace them. Most things in our home are 1 in 1 out. Our family doesn’t give us “stuff” for holidays since they know we hate it.
My question is that even though I feel like we’ve done near everything possible, how do we still have such a messy and cluttered home?!!! There’s always something that doesn’t have a home.
I feel like every time I turn around our house looks like a tornado came through. We clean constantly and it’s just two adults working from home.
Do we really need to go down to the barest amount of items, get rid of decor, books, art, etc. to get to the point that cleaning becomes possible?
Everyone we know keeps a tidy home all the time and it feels nearly impossible. We were thinking about opening a brick and mortar for our business, but the idea of keeping two locations tidy makes me want to faint!

I’m super jealous of my best friend. Recently, my friend just went on a vacation with one of her siblings and her parents for summer break. She always does this kind of stuff and travels a lot.
Not only does she always go to these fun places, she is also the stereotypical pretty girl. Tall, blonde, skinny, strong, very talkative, etc. She always has the guys at her feet. I am not. I’m short, chubby, brunette, and overall a quiet person. I’ve had one real boyfriend and she could literally have anyone she wants.
She has this nice ass house with a whole pool in it. She has a super nice room and has all the super cute clothes that I could never wear. And I’m jealous of her. I grew up with not a whole lot of money but we had enough to get by and have extra stuff too.

I feel like I am stuck in the current city I live in because of my husband’s job. A few weeks ago we took a trip to one of our favorite cities and he suggested we move to our favorite city. It is about 3 hours from where we currently live. I became excited with this idea. I began looking at jobs and homes to get an idea of the market for both. I think we could make a move happen in the next two or three years. One drawback is he would need to travel back to our current city weekly for work. He works two 24 hour shifts per week. He has about 7 years left before he can retire, but it seemed he was ok with the idea of traveling every week because he is the one who suggested moving. Our current city’s crime rate is sky rocketing. The city is poorly run by politicians who line their own pockets (now a new thing for any large city). The private school my husband wants our son to attend requires a significant “donation” in order to get to the top of the waiting list. I like the neighborhood we are in but purchasing a larger home in our current neighborhood will be tough. Home builders keep buying the old ranch homes, knocking them down, and building very expensive homes. I have been wanting to leave this city for at least two years. Today we passed by my husband’s old high school in our current city and he said our son can attend there. Well, if he wants our son to attend his old high school then that means we’re still living here… I asked him if he wants to stay here, because if we stay we need to purchase a larger house. He said “I don’t know. I don’t know what is going to happen”. WTF does that mean?… I said you just don’t let things happen, you make things happen. You make plans! So today I realized we are stuck in this crime infested, poorly run, too small of a house, city and I now am pissed.

At 18 I had to move out for reasons out of my control, and landed in this horribly dirty trap house with my partner and a few other people. Other roommates came and went and had their own drama, but we’re gonna focus on Barry today. Then we began learning about Barry and his personal life, he lamented about all his friends leaving him at his lowest and being treated like garbage by them. Telling stories with elaborate lies sprinkled through them, but we were none with wiser in the beginning. After a while of selling/using and literally not doing anything for his continuous down spiraling mental health, he turned to harder drugs. His new philosophy was “if it gets my high I’ll do it.” And not in moderation. He would constantly tell my partner and I and others in the house about how he thinks he might die from the amount of shit he put up his nose, or how he’s nodding off from some shit he popped and is gonna go driving. Now is a good time to note the size difference, im average height, same with my partner. Barry on the other hand is much taller and much heavier than basically anyone who had ever been in that trap house, so when he made threats like that we could do nothing but watch. It got to a point where he slept for a week straight on the couch just from the amount of stuff he had in his system, completely unmoving in that time, not even eating. He would hold money over peoples head like a form of power, but majority of the time it was drug money he was flexing. He never once tried to clean up his act, and when we finally had enough and moved out, we figured out why all his friends dropped him. He lashed out with more anger than I could have imagined, almost ruining our chances of moving out and acting entitled to us as people. We dropped him after the string of texts about how disrespectful we were coupled with complete mental breakdowns apologizing for how self destructive he is and the he pushes everyone away for drugs. My family and I are currently in the process of moving, so my dad, my sister, and my aunt F 62 who couldn't afford her apartment anymore so she now lives with us because we had an extra room, anyways this new house were moving to is 3 bedrooms plus an extra one but it wasn't a bed room, the person ran a dog grooming service in their house so instead of a closet, a little shower area is in there, which my dad wants to turn into a closet for my aunt, and my aunt said while that process was happening she'd stay with me, and I told her I'd rather jump off the empire state building before I'd do that.
She got offended and said "well if you hate me that much then fine" now I do not hate her in anyway but here's why I'd refuse to share a room with her
1: she has really long nails that she pinches or grabs people with, and if you ask her to stop she won't, and instead she can just laughes to be annoying, one time she cornered me and before she'd stop I smacked her on the head, not hard and it left no mark of any kind but she did get mad
2: she constantly tries to break into my room to bother me even if I lock the door and tell her I want to be alone.
3: she farts on people and our dog and thinks it's funny, and will try again even after you say stop or that it's gross.
4: she leaves plates of half eaten food on her bed for days at a time.
5: she doesn't know when to stop, my sister (16F) hates being touched, hugs, hand shakes, kisses on the head or face from family, all of that she Hates, and my aunt knows this and continues to do it anyways.
6: when I'm on a call with one of my friends, yet again she tries to break in and be annoying on purpose and will not stop if you ask her to, this has happened multiple times.
